@nozcr SHUT YOUR DAMN MOUTH! :-) Mitt Romney is the best candidate we have to take on OBAMA. When I watched this live, I was thinking, "Is this the raw footage?" I could not believe it. I just thought it was hilarious. This should not have ended Dean's campaign. The most honest candidate of 2004 who was the only one who would end the unconstitutional overseas wars.
it wasn't just the scream that did him in, it was the seemingly unstable and aggressive, steadily crescendoing shouting of states dean vowed to go to before 'taking back' the white house. a large majority of the voting public is age 55+; and when your largest demographic seeks a level-headed, poised, and composed candidate to lead their country, a tirade like this (though not malicious in any way) is damning.
So, what you're saying is that people 55 and older are so stupid and unable to control there emotions that even a low tempered whoop will make them completely disregard/hate a person, and peg them as completely devoid of level-headedness, poise, or composure? You're making the voting majority look like the problem, not Dean.
@UniversumExNihilo pretty much, yeah. have you met someone 55+ whose mind you were able to successfully change after a scandal or controversy - regardless of how wrongly they were interpreting it? one little perceived slip dooms a candidate. it happened to gary hart in 1988 after an anonymous source claimed he had an extra-marital affair, it happened to mike huckabee in 2008 when he overhyped his relationship with god, and it happened to an absentminded rick perry this year.
I don't think this scream ruined his political run. He wasn't the favorite candidate going in and he wasn't the favorite candidate going out. So, what does that tell you? He just wasn't the favorite candidate.
I just don't understand how this "scream" ended his campaign and why it mattered to the voters?? Its not like he said somthing wierd and contraversial. It wasn't something scandalous or threatening. It was just the microphone design that made that noise. What did this even change in the mind of the voters?????? If he had hiccuped or farted on stage would that have done him in the same way?? Stupid reason to back away from a candidate.
@bryce2197 Because voters believe that presidents need to act a certain way, and that way does not include barking out a speech like a WWE wrestler cuts a promo. The scream was merely the exclamation point. He lost because he forgot that it's important to look and act presidential, or people probably won't want you to be president.
@MulRedux I see the logic there, but then I'm reminded of Bush who talked like a simpleton and gave people the feeling he was making shit up as he went along. In debates he came off as being anything but presidential, talking more like special needs gradeschool teacher who required special needing himself. When one talks about a stereotypical redneck yankee cowboy american, Bush was like the poster child for that.
@bryce2197 It didn't help that Fox news played it on repeat for days afterward. Howard Dean is a great guy and I supported him for President. But it's true that the scream made people feel uncomfortable. It made them think he was a little outta conrol.
@bryce2197 I think it was because of the war and stuff, American's didn't seem to like the thought of some excitable yahoo having access to the worlds largest cache of nuclear weapons
not only am i going to get the fried chicken at the buffet, tom harkin, i'm going to get the steak, and the mashed potatoes, and corn, and green beans, and cornbread, and pizza, and cheeseburgers, and roast beef! and i'm going to get the turkey, and the shrimp, and the fish, and dinner rolls! and then i'm going to finish off my meal with a big bowl of ice cream!
can someone explain why this scream was such a big deal? im not trying to just upset republicans... im an independent, not aligned to either party. i didn't understand why this was a big deal when i was 15, and im still not sure why. thanks
@cody91191 says who?? you decide what is unprofessional? he might have been over the top on the scream and the exitment but I hardly think its grounds for rulling him out of the race.
@magua4 the worst part is that this didnt just upset the Republicans, republicans are upset for pretty much anything any liberal/democrat does, the problem is this upseted Democrats for some reason and this scream cost him his candidacy. I think this speaks volumes of how fragile the political system really is, if people base their decisions, not on policies or political platforms but on likes and dislikes.
@magua4 "According to a Newsday Editorial written by Verne Gay, some members of the television audience criticized the speech as loud, peculiar, and unpresidential."- wikipedia
@magua4 The real reason why his scream was such a big deal was because it showed he wasn't "in control." The man chosen to represent the United States is favorable a man who is calm and collected, when Howard Dean made that scream at the end of his speech it made people think...."Is THIS who we want in the White House? THAT close to the Big Red Button, if you know what I mean?"
So there you have it, his lack of self control made him lose the running.
@Aveon711 I can't see how any sane person could buy that arguement, in 2004 I wanted John Kerry to win so I probebly was predisposed in to buying that arguement, and if you pressed me hard enough then I would have admitted it. But this was a speech to rall the crowd after a tough loss. Honestlty how is he considered so "out of contol", when you have half of the republican party playing the slim pickens role ( I know he played a few, but you know the one) in Dr. Strangelove.Over Iraq I mean Iran.
@magua4 It wasn't it just shows how everybody in 04 was ringer to put Bush back in. Kerry and Bush were Skull and Bones. Now in 12 everybody is a ringer for Obama except Ron Paul. I hope I explained it. BTW I am neither left or right just want to expose the New World Order and arrest the bankers for staging events like 9/11.
Blame the Democrats... it was their primary - they are the one's who sunk him. Some in the party thought he was a little 'unbalanced,' and this certainly did not help.
@magua4 It is just not the way a politician acts. Also the media is controlled by the left and they did not want Dean to win, thus they tried to destroy him and at the same time prop up John Kerry and John Edward. They did the same thing to Hilary Clinton in 08
@magua4 Howard Dean was viewed as the front runner going into the Iowa Caucuses and his third place finish was very disappointing. The Scream affirmed some people's not-yet-publicly-validated notions that Dean is a tad unstable. Dean capped an embarrassing loss with an unprofessional primal scream fueled by frustration and universally viewed as a gaffe.
If you are looking for a hassle free, inexpensive, quality, legal soundtrack for your next Youtube video....try "Rumblefish Friendly Music" Just follow the link in the "About Me" section on my page. Only $1.99 per track.
@mueygringo Right... the "leftie mentality." So to you, Howard Dean screaming "Hyaaaa!!" sums up the opinions of all liberals in the whole country. Makes sense.
@HBSanta Nobody said that lefties made sense. Obama's policies on killing Boarder Patrol Agents, Starting an Illegal War In Lybia, economic policies that kill jobs. Nothing like lefties leaving after the mess they created and the rest soon to be voted out. Bye Barney, Dodd, Weiner,Barry.........
We're gonna acquire the best team on paper in the NFL!! We're gonna call ourselves the dream team!!! We're gonna get all our fans hyped up!!!! We're gonna go out there and not make the playoffs and let everyone down!!! BYAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHh
wow, that was it? I remember this scream being such a big deal that it ruined Dean's entire campaign and made him look crazy. I remember it being a lot more maniacal that this. THIS is what ruined his campaign? I don't get it. What's the big deal?
I really don't get what the big deal is with this. sure it was weird and funny, but nobody can accuse the guy of not being able to work and galvanise a crowd. It doesn't disqualify him from being President! Go Dean!
Geez, you call that a scream? How disappointing, was hoping for something a little less exuberant cowboy and a little more braveheart in the throes of a berserker rage. No matter.
Agreed; following Rick Perry debate 'brain freeze' on which 3 dept (& jobs) he'd eliminate, AP references this Dean 'scream' as raising "... concerns were about his demeanor?"
WTF? I never even heard about this tragic incident until now & there is no comparison. - Chance
@kinceymoy He isnt a chestnut. He was the guy in 2003 that the democrats blood boiling again, and i belive he would that defeated George Bush in 2004, if he had gotten the democratic presidential nomination.
I wonder where people think the country goes that they have to "take it back?" That's the current rallying cry of the GOP this year. No matter the letter after their name of the person who sits in the Oval Office, this country remains in the hands of those who bought it decades ago!

wow, that was it? I remember this scream being such a big deal that it ruined Dean's entire campaign and made him look crazy. I remember it being a lot more maniacal that this. THIS is what ruined his campaign? I don't get it. What's the big deal?
Satunian 2 months ago 3
@Satunian
There is no big deal. That was one awesome scream.
TheAdjundantReflex 2 months ago
I really don't get what the big deal is with this. sure it was weird and funny, but nobody can accuse the guy of not being able to work and galvanise a crowd. It doesn't disqualify him from being President! Go Dean!

Geez, you call that a scream? How disappointing, was hoping for something a little less exuberant cowboy and a little more braveheart in the throes of a berserker rage. No matter.
chrstophr 2 months ago
Agreed; following Rick Perry debate 'brain freeze' on which 3 dept (& jobs) he'd eliminate, AP references this Dean 'scream' as raising "... concerns were about his demeanor?"
WTF? I never even heard about this tragic incident until now & there is no comparison. - Chance

This pales in comparison to what the nutjobs in the republica debates say. Wow

It's not so bad, really. Dean was OK. American voters are affected by really silly stuff. We don't deserve good leaders.

I wonder where people think the country goes that they have to "take it back?" That's the current rallying cry of the GOP this year. No matter the letter after their name of the person who sits in the Oval Office, this country remains in the hands of those who bought it decades ago!

I think they used this in the new Mortal Kombat.
