  • Omg I would pay $600 for this peace of technology

  • 0:59 adorable!

  • He's awesome!

  • they just have to put it on legs and manufacture it

  • Playback so much haha :D

  • hes being remotely controlled

  • that is so bad ass. Robots with speech algorithms are amazing. They actually evaluate what they hear and determine from there the best way to answer or respond. truly an amazing technology, This was the most fluent one I've seen so far.

  • @Shredmaster2008 There's a person in the back who is controlling it.

  • lmfao he sounds like orko

  • balto ever tried a game called sea man on dreamcast? that darn thing could hold up pretty darn good convos and that was like what 10 years ago or something?

its not really AI but its programed with responses...MANY of them to many possible questions... at least that is how i think it is

  • somebody get WILL SMITH!

  • I've seen Quasi in person. He can be puppeteered, and he can also act autonomously. I don't know which is the case in this video, but having interacted with Quasi personally, I can say that he is entirely capable of having this kind of conversation without human control.

  • Quasi also has an autonomous mode r tards... L2 read moar.

  • It is human operated, go to their website. It's like a puppet.

  • can someone please prove if it is or isn't human operated?

  • It's definitely human operated- I saw Quasi in action at CMU:ETC (the place it was built). It has a simple graphical interface on a palm pilot, with controls for expressions, looking around, basic arm movements, and some preprogrammed actions, like dancing. The voice is the puppeteer's, sent through a nice robotic-sounding filter.

  • those who dont believe its human operated...check out Quasi's website

  • None of the conversation requires more than a simple chat bot program. All the questions are pretty predictable. And quite a few of the responses are of the form that you could generate generically from just the words in the sentence you were asked. Never the less the speech/face recognition (or is it just able to hear where the questioner is) is impressive. And the speech generation is amazing (if it isn't a library of phrases that is).

  • this is not human operated

it's just so cool your feeble little mind can't handle the shock of an actual robot having a real conversation

  • its not

    they site even says it

your stupid, or lack basic understanding of technology...AI can't be that smart nor will be in 100 years

  • your retarded AI will be that smart in 5 years at the least

  • Really?!

Haha you have no idea how machines work do u?

The true A.I, a self-thinking creation will take 50 to 100 years to obtain

the only ones we can come close 2 are just advanced algorithms that's it

  • no i didnt mean true AI just an AAI artifical AI because we could make and robot that has a program to do freely what it wants a program that will kind of control it but make it do random things like go to the fridge or do a random draw either choosing to take a command or not taking it . AI i dont think will ever be like the human brain

  • your lack of understanding amazes me. Look up Qrio. AI these days can be extremely intelligent if properly programmed.

  • ru joking

I'm currently taking Honor's Computer sciences and actually know how to program and write script

you are truly a soul example of an ignorant American

Plz tell me the basic of program design

At the core there is script, or the language of computers which is translated by the JavaScript then is prepared with Alice and finally figured to the appropriate code stream of the cmd and so on

of course the process is more advanced then that but i simplified it so you could understand

  • what I'm getting at is that for every line or speech record, there is a command for it

that command is made by a programmer

a single word could take to 3 to 6 lines of script

now imagine in that small head of yours the unique tone and the speed of that little robot's response to a question. For each of every word he knows (not that he does hes fake), understands, and the operation to come up with a correct response would take 100-300 years even if they worked day and night

    You have been fooled

  • What you're saying is like saying that when programming a game, you have to program in every possible step and every possible action. That's not how it works.

And speech synthesis has been around since the '30s

  • its soooo cute

  • It is! It is human operated. It talks way too much like a human.

  • IT IS NOT HUMAN OPORATED! Stop liveing in the past!

  • Can you buy this one? If so, where and what's the price?

  • I don't think he's for sale.

  • I would love to be in the robitics field but theres a high chance of bein murdered by future time travelers...

  • lol..

  • hahahahahahahahahaha

  • lol

  • Really nice mechanics as far as I can see. But the "intelligence" is clearly a human operator....too bad, I was getting interested for a minute.

  • It's not humanoperated stupid

  • Was that comment directed to me? If you believe that's not human operated then I'd like to know what planet you live on......and you call me stupid? Hahahaha!!!

  • sweet ass robot

  • Ridiculous robot. All he does is TALK like a chat bot. Wouldn't be easier if they just made a box with a speaker and a microphone?

I prefer AIBO the Jap Sony Dog for the level of interactivity and fine movement.

  • wow, that's really cool. it's the smartest robot i've ever seen. the conversation went so smoothly, and fluidly. it's also pretty kewl that he remembered that guy's face and name. really advanced tech.

  • cause, there is a person controling quasio. thats why i called you stupid ass.

  • so i guess in your book, that's an excuse to be rude?

  • oh go cry to your moma

  • whats your deal?

  • Oh shit, you better watch yourself sheshonewah! Someone posting a comment online miles away from your town is gonna give you a piece of him! (that might just mean he's going to say somthing cheesy again if you reply to his comment) You got more cheesy lines, JUKI001? I had fun with the last one.

  • lol, i was just messing around, if you post a comment i wont really give you a piece of me, that wouldnt make any sense

  • Emo.

  • i know one of the builders on this project and i can say for a fact that it is completely self controlled. it's got a bank of thousands of phrases as well as voice recognition.

  • Bwahahahaha!

  • its no tthat amazing consider there is someone controling it. if it was doing it on its own, then that would be amazing

  • it is, isn't it? i mean, isn't that the whole point of this video, the fact that it can talk for itself?

  • yup

  • his voice reminds me of Cheese on "Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends"...

  • I saw it on t.v. The science channel I think, but anyway, it is just a puppet. There is an operator standing behind the scenes with a computer and a microphone controlling and talking for the thing. Sorry to burst your bubble.

  • i would curse this little thing out to see what he would say

  • "Seeming" and "virtual" mean "resembling".

I mean I lifted the above from an actual dictionary, you're taking the terms like virtual too literal when virtual actual means "remsembling"

  • qua·si [kwey-zahy, -sahy, kwah-see, -zee]

    --adjective

resembling; seeming; virtual: a quasi member.

  • i want one were can i buy one for me its so badass and il teach it badwords hee hee

  • haha, Zico, it's cool to hear your voice again. And it remembered your name! even if it is some operator from behind the scenes. you should have given it some complicated math to do :) or ask it the meaning of life !

  • Everyone that keeps saying that it's fake are totally wrong. There's two pc's controlling Quasi and it runs under an advanced logical system. I've read it all on the official website.

  • i think its fake ,this could pass the Turin test

anyway prepared to be wrong whats the web site

  • Its real... My friend went to Wired: Nextfest and all of it is top-of-the-line technology... most of the stuff there is very sci-fi and really cool...

  • If its a puppet, its not very impressive, and it wouldnt exactly be popular then. Either they've managed too hide an obviouse ploy that far, or its real.

  • That's easy; someone is transmitting the voice to the "Robot" through a cordless microphone.

  • In second life some one has a talking pig, that more or less can have conversations it is of course not very good at it but its worlds better then this fake arse puppet

  • I saw this same trick at Universal Studios with the Night Rider car. You could sit inside it and talk to KIT, who was waaaaaaaayyyyyy too clever to be a computer.

  • i want 1 of them!!

  • great Puppet!

  • Cool puppet.

  • add orio's to the list of cool REAL robots

  • dissapointing really that it is just a puppet permantly attached to the stand with some guy operating it. :(

    watch?v=3tlqvdAaQNE&NR

would be good for theme parks maybe like an updated anamatronic that you get in POTC.

shame really. asimo is far cooler

  • Doesn't sound like a puppet - some of the statements are repeated very simularly.

  • CPUs have evolved to the point where you could program a complex enough neural net AI system that could listen/understand/talk back on the basic level that little guy is doing.

Have a few dual-core ARM CPU's in there... I totally believe it's possible.

  • They even go into some detail on the interface of the controller for the robot.

  • See link off the CMU project website. Sorry to ruin the party but someone is controlling and speaking for the robot.

  • Links won't post in comments...

www "dot" etc "dot" cmu "dot" edu "slash" Global "Slash" projects "slash" projectgallery "dot" html and select the download link beside the "Interbots Inititive" section of the page.

  • Ahh well there we go. I still believe it is possible using current day CPU technology. So long as all he has to do is understand/listen. A viewing system would be a whole other story! :)

  • that really just dakota fanning

  • I found it...

IAAPAE: International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions Exposition in Atlanta, GA.

  • Milhouse is a robot!

Yeah, that's totally someone with a mic.

  • Confirmed: Quasi is basically a high-technology puppet. There's someone behind the set-up talking through him.

Confirmed where? Links please, no one is going to believe its confirmed just because someone on the net said so.

  • I cannot place an YouTube link for some reason. Search for Quasi on Discovey Chanel. You should see it there.

  • You can find out more about Interbots' Guided Control System by visiting their company's website at WWW dot INTERBOTS dot COM and going to Products -> Software

  • Obviously a lot of what it says would be pre-written. Still, it's cool that it can identify the subject of what you're talking about.

  • It's not pre-written and there is an actor behind the scenes. Still, controling the puppet is not easy, and its a magnificant creature.

  • This is not pre-recorded. That's a voice actor.

  • Confirmed: Quasi is basically a high-technology puppet. There's someone behind the set-up talking through him.

  • weird voice for a female...

  • so cute! If that was all cpu controlled and not someone under the desk then colour me impressed!!! I want one!

  • alchemyx: no one has passed the turing test yet!

  • so this isn't radio controlled by someone hidden in a booth?

  • It is controlled ( see vid 3tlqvdAaQNE )

  • what's the name of the event he says he's going to be at in atlanta in november? it sounded like iapa, but I can't find anything on it and I want to go see him!

  • I think its "Ayyappa", but I don't think its in Atlanta

  • I love it :). I wonder if he passes a Turing test.

  • I sure hope so - a human is doing the talking. Quasi is designed for conveying emotions in an innovative way. There is no AI here. He's just a very well constructed puppet.

  • True. Its the future of the Muppet Show. We can call it The Robbet Show!

  • "Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain."

  • I'd prefer someone with a personality closer to GiR from Invader Zim. Bender from Futurama might also be cool.

  • It eats old people's medicine for fuel.

  • I see you have bought that insurance Sam Waterston was promoting! God bless that man.

  • *not worthy*

  • Yes, he's a bit "self" motivated.

  • Now to make him talk not only about HIS life.

  • theres somone sitting under that table with a microphone on.

  • haha yes, probably so.
