I've carried the Spyderco Tenacious for years...Resilience and Endura 4 frn vg-10 and ZDP (didn't care for zdp version) I just ordered a Delica a few minutes ago...I think it will be a good compromise on size and comfort...I carried a kershaw 1550 ken onion ( great knife but needed lots of touch-up) and a 154cm Benchmade for years...it was a pain to sharpen at times...VG 10 seems to be an excellent compromise of hard working edge holding abillity yet easy to touch up and maintain ...I'm a Spyde

Sir, your sarcasm is highly commendable. Not many people can appreciate a sarcastic sense of humor, as I experience first hand daily. I never get tired of your retorts to moronic posts and your tasteful sarcastic narration.
I have to agree with the fella below me. I just got a Zdp Delica to compliment my 2 full flat ground VG10 models. Variety is the spice of life. Or is that cumin? ;)
Excellent video, but now benchmade has some knives with the deployment hole, I think benchmade and sog might have some. But why should you need anymore when you've got a delica that will last forever!
I love knives im a big time collector myself although I don't review them as much as I should I love knives and I'm gonna try a soyderco now, thanks Hickok
i <3 spyderco. got a endura, tenacious and delica. would like a para military too. my favs are still benchmade though. and kershaw's are good for the price.
Am i the only person having problems with this knife? In the first month I had a screwed up edge, loose belt clip and a loose blade, wtf? It looked like the edge rolled or something and that was being gentle with it. My SOG was waaayyyyy more durable than that and I was rough on it compared to this Delica 4. Love the knife but has not been durable for me in my experience. Maybe i got a bad one or a fake.
I like all of your videos a lot. When it comes to knives, Spyderco really is my favorite as well. I have a ton of different models, from big heavy Chinooks to light, super small Crickets. The Delica is the one that keeps finding its way in my pocket all the time. Perfectly sized, plenty of blade for all types of tasks, and small enough for PC places. Spyderco for knives for me, Sig Sauer for firearms for me. Great video!
Spyderco Paramilitary 2 is my favorite pocket knife! It is the hole that sets it apart from my other pocket knives, plus the compression lock system on the paramilitary is very nice and safer than a liner lock and easier to use than the AXIS lock on Benchmades.
Just wondering Hickok, i've probably missed it but do you have a vid of your knife collection? I've checked but i think i've stared myself blind in my attempts to find it.
Nice! My EDC knife is a Delica 4 ffg, great knife. I like Spyderco's because they give you high quality steel and materials for a decent price because they're nice and basic. Everything you need, nothing you dont kind of like a Glock lol
I carry a Delica 4 and own a Tenacious too. IMO these Spyderco's ugly looking knives compared to some others in my collection, but they're good knives and are great working knives. For me that's the most important aspect of an EDC knife.
Delica 4 nice choice. I would probably go with a Benchmade, maybe the griptilian. I prefer the thumb stud personally because it is what I first used. But Spyderco id an awesome company none the less
@zaco519 yep. it does not change the fact the blade has play. it has a bad steel and just because it says benchmade does not mean it is benchmade quality.
I have been carrying a benchmade griptilian for about 2 years now with the same type of deployment hole. I have to agree with you its very functional and now I dont think I would ever buy another knife with thumb studs.

I used to carry a knife all the time till someone saw it in my back pocket and the next thing i know im explaning to the police why i have a knife in my pocket and all i could say is its a tool what else would i use it for. in the end they took my knife witch was not cheap and i have not seen it since. That actually happend to me and I've never been in such a confusing situation in my life.
There is nothing criminal about carring a knife with a blade under 4 inches. As long as it is not a "switch blade" automatically deploying blades are illegal in many places. I would have sued them for harrasment, mental trauma and every other thing I could think of just to make them think twice about it next time. This is all assuming you were not brandishing the knife in some threatening way.
I picked up a Spyderco Delica today. Very nice knife. I think it's a winner. The thing was razor sharp right out of the box. Thanks to your video and a couple of other folks on youtube who are Spyderco lovers... I decided I just had to have one. I figured if the Glock 23 and 27 worked out so well for me the knife probably would be a nice additon too. I have the Glock 78 Field Knife and it's pretty cool. Do you have one? If I was a gambling man I would bet you have one. Have a Merry Christmas!
@codyaustinpemberton , Yeah, I agree that most of them are not that cool looking. To me, though, there's a certain "coolness" in something that functions so well, which is why I didn't resist Glocks for very long.
That well-placed, incredibly functional hole in the blade is beyond cool for me, especially whenever I pick up a folder that doesn't have it. It's like picking up a bucket that has no handle or something.
@hickok45 yah i gess your right hickok i personaly carry a gerber wallowa fixed blade knife it has a 2.5 inch blade and a stag handle and its true what you say about the utility of a knife cuz i have gone a day without carrying a knife and i wanted to smash my head into a sidewalk
@hickok45 The beauty of Spyderco's knives, IMO, is that form always follows function with their products. Have you ever held a Delica or and Endura in your hand? They feel like extensions of you body. Every one of their models are like that too, some more than others but all have that great ergonomic feel. I used to agree with you about how they look and once I realized how they perform, I was hooked. No other company offers such a high level of quality at the price points they set.
@hickok45 They look cool to me, hey are rare high performing knives, sharp, fast, great material. prices arent insane very fair. I dont know is just me but they are great.
@hickok45 They look cool to me, hey are rare high performing knives, sharp, fast, great material. prices arent insane very fair. I dont know its just me but they are great, love em.
@hickok45 Funny enough, the 'coolness' in something functioning is the 1st type of cool, as opposed to the 2nd that he was talking about. Basically, 1st type = Cool because it works. 2nd = Cool because I think it's cool.
I also carry a spyderco and I also like mine a lot. For us college students I am glad that they make the byrd series of knives because you can pick one up for an affordable $18- $20. I carry a cara cara.
@JohnWayneColt45 , You have good taste, as is indicated by your username. I hear this "Spyderco Snob" term but wonder where it comes from. As I look at good knives of this type, many of them cost twice or three times the amount of Spyderco. As I say in the video, even if these more expensive knives, which I'm sure are very well made, cost four dollars, I would not be attracted to them. It's that perfectly designed hole in the blade that makes all the difference for me.
-- EXACTLY! -- The only thing better would be a Spyderco with a Glock Tool! -- Lone Wolf Distributor's has one! -- It is a special run of the Endura 4!
Yes sir I have a collection of pocket knives and multi tools, gerber, leatherman, swiss army, buck and some not so known brands. But spyderco is the sharpest of them all, you could shave your hands with it. Its one of my favorite and i'm glad we have something in common. more power to you sir.
I sell knives for a living, I never realized I was Spyderco fan untill I looked in my collection and they outnumbered everything else. Life is too short to own a cheap knife. Thanks for the review hickok :)
@eventer289 I concur. The Benchmade Mini-Griptilian (555HG) is an excellent EDC knife; I carry one with a "combo blade" (partially serrated). It's lightweight, has a great blade (hollow-ground modified sheepsfoot), feels very secure in your hands, and also has the same sort of thumb-hole on the blade (but with a superior locking mechanism: "AXIS"). The lifetime warranty and the "lifesharp" service are also very nice.
I have the same knife Hickok and carry it everyday, very useful tool indeed. If you're not using the pocket clip you could remove it for a slimmer profile, someone probably mentioned that already. Anyway, thanks for showing us and keep up the great vids!
I must confess to being a Spyderco snob too. I own many, many of their knives. Not only are they of great quality but the company's customer service is second to none.
You mentioned a stainless steel model you used to carry. You can send it to Spyderco for a tune up-sharpening, lube, etc. and it will only cost you return shipping-$5. They might be able to breathe some new life into that old dawg.
Hickok45, if weight is an issue the new Delica 4 FFG (full flat ground) weighs 2.2 ounces vs. your Delica 4 Saber ground at 2.5 ounces. Great video as usual. Thanks!
"Spyderco Snob" ~ I love it! I guess you could say that's what I am, too. Although the Ka Bar TDI winks at me everytime I see one in the case or at a show ;-)
I love my Spyderco knife. Its all about the hole and the grip pattern. Great vid for anyone looking for a great EDC knife who doesn't know about these!
I've been looking for a good EDC knife lately and I'd love a Delica 4, but unfortunately I live in Illinois so I can't legally carry a pocket knife unless the blade is less than 3 inches. Any suggestions hickok?
@lancemannly the new Delica 4 FFG isn't a full 3 inches,it is abt 2.88 or so...i love it,very useful knife and always there when u need it,extremely lightweight as well
Excellent choice for an EDC knife. A Delica is my EDC. I’ve noticed a Spyderco a couple of times in your videos, but never knew which model, as it flashed across the screen too quick.
I have to ask, what is that loud chirping kind of noise I’ve heard in a couple of your last videos?
wow hockok, your first knife "review". realy loved it. have seen all your videos, they are great. care for those how like you, mind the haters, life is good...
Could u do a video about first gun? i wan't to buy a gun for hobby range shooting and i'm at a loss here. I wan't somthing cool and fun to juse, but it's my first gun so i can't get like a desert eagel 50cal, i'd lose an eye or somthing. But im not rich. and i will have to juse the same gun for a long time. i realy want a 45cal and u saied in the all glock video that the glock 45 was not to mutch of a kicker. What should i get. Key words is Fun, easy and not to smal. :-)
I like to carry a small, thin knife for opening boxes and heavy plastic bags (I work in a hospital radiology department--lots of cardboard boxes! Everything from chemicals to office supplies). I like the Gerber STL for that--I can put it in the shirt pocket of my scrubs and it's not even noticable.
Excellent choice... I used to have Benchmades etc, but got rid of them all because I didn't dare to use them. They were pretty & nice, such a waste to use. A Spyderco however is a great user knife. No need to baby it, just go for it.
The Delica 4 is a great choice as well, since it's small, but handy. An Endura doesn't have the same balance and is a lot thicker. Nope, for EDC I swear by my Delica. (note that my EDC is not for self-defense purposes though)
HICKOK45 Thank you for you down to earth way of speaking to the viewers!! I really enjoy and always looking toward to your videos!! keep them coming!! ooo When you gonna do a review on the GEN4 Glock 19 and the Glock 22?
I liked hearing your opinion (since you don't like the word 'review'). Like you, I've owned some very fancy blades; Gerber, etc. But my pocketknife of choice is a cheapie I bought at the gas station for five or ten bucks. It's serrated on half of the blade, which makes it easy to cut through cardboard or anything tougher. I can flick it open easily, like yours, and it's easy to sharpen. I'm sure it''s a knockoff of a more expensive knife; if I ever found the nicer version I might upgrade.
This one knows what you mean, got a Remington clasp folder that it'd take me months to get used to not having, if I had to replace it. Sad part is, in much of the 'civilized' world(the United Kingdom, for example), both would be considered assault weapons.
I carry a Spyderco everyday. I love it so much I just ordered their sharpening set. Everybody at the grocery store I work at carries a box cutter, but they don't cut it for heavy duty jobs. My Spyderco does.
Hickok, Hickok, a Spyderco is un-American. You should be either carrying a Buck 110 or a hand made knife. If you would like a handmade knife made in Tennessee. Please call Gary Wheeler in Clarksville,Tenn. for reasonable priced, well made knives. 1-931-645-9171,1-931-552-3092,or 1-931-980-4956. Your design or his. He is good and resonable. Again, he is out of Clarksville.
Gary doesn't have a company. He makes his knives by hand and forges them in a blacksmith forge. All the old timers know what I mean by a Buck 110. I guess I'm not use to having youngsters in blogs. Personally I have a couple of Spydercos myself. I also have a Randal No. 3. Golden Colorado, Hell that is Coors son!
@pajax6 I won't doubt that some custom knife makers make really great products... But what's so un-American about Spyderco? I carry a Spyderco Native--which was made in my old stomping grounds: Golden Colorado USA Earth, as it proudly says.
I understand fewer of their components are being made here these days... But if you can't afford or don't want to carry a custom/semi-custom knife, I think they're tops. They at least do some stuff here, where it counts. Better than can be said for most.
I have to admit, Gary Wheeler makes some of the best knives out there. I have a Randal Number 3. I own 3 custom knives made by Gary of various sizes. I have not met Gary personally. We do all business by the phone. I paid $300. for the Randal in 95 and had Gary made me a 6 inch 1/4 in stock knive. He charged $200 and it looks better than the Randal. As for Spyderco. I did have 2 of them. I gave 1 to a police officer. I just carry the Buck 110.

I'm a Spyderco Snob as well my friend.
JohnWayneColt45 1 year ago 6
@JohnWayneColt45 , You have good taste, as is indicated by your username. I hear this "Spyderco Snob" term but wonder where it comes from. As I look at good knives of this type, many of them cost twice or three times the amount of Spyderco. As I say in the video, even if these more expensive knives, which I'm sure are very well made, cost four dollars, I would not be attracted to them. It's that perfectly designed hole in the blade that makes all the difference for me.

Yes sir I have a collection of pocket knives and multi tools, gerber, leatherman, swiss army, buck and some not so known brands. But spyderco is the sharpest of them all, you could shave your hands with it. Its one of my favorite and i'm glad we have something in common. more power to you sir.

You should check out the Benchmade Griptilians with the spyderhole.
eventer289 1 year ago

@Hickok45

Great review, thank you. I will forward it to couple of my non-knife friends, may be you will be able to change their mind.
By the way round hole is the Spyderco's is not patented, but registered Trademark, which never expired.
I carry Spyderco for five years and also find round hole the best opening system.
Recently Spyderco made Delica4 in full flat grind, may be you want to try this one.
Also if US made is a concern, there are plenty US made Spydercos.
Thank you again for review.

I like to carry a small, thin knife for opening boxes and heavy plastic bags (I work in a hospital radiology department--lots of cardboard boxes! Everything from chemicals to office supplies). I like the Gerber STL for that--I can put it in the shirt pocket of my scrubs and it's not even noticable.
roentgen571 1 year ago
Excellent choice... I used to have Benchmades etc, but got rid of them all because I didn't dare to use them. They were pretty & nice, such a waste to use. A Spyderco however is a great user knife. No need to baby it, just go for it.
The Delica 4 is a great choice as well, since it's small, but handy. An Endura doesn't have the same balance and is a lot thicker. Nope, for EDC I swear by my Delica. (note that my EDC is not for self-defense purposes though)

BigSean1992 1 year ago

@pajax6 "Spyderco is a company, founded in 1978 by Sal Glesser and based in Golden, Colorado, U.S.A."
Nothing like plugging your friend's company.
jigglypiggly 1 year ago
Gary doesn't have a company. He makes his knives by hand and forges them in a blacksmith forge. All the old timers know what I mean by a Buck 110. I guess I'm not use to having youngsters in blogs. Personally I have a couple of Spydercos myself. I also have a Randal No. 3. Golden Colorado, Hell that is Coors son!
pajax6 1 year ago
@pajax6 , If he can make a Spyderco "clone," that would be fine.
hickok45 1 year ago 9
@pajax6 I won't doubt that some custom knife makers make really great products... But what's so un-American about Spyderco? I carry a Spyderco Native--which was made in my old stomping grounds: Golden Colorado USA Earth, as it proudly says.
I understand fewer of their components are being made here these days... But if you can't afford or don't want to carry a custom/semi-custom knife, I think they're tops. They at least do some stuff here, where it counts. Better than can be said for most.
nominalvelocity 1 year ago
@nominalvelocity
