there is no way Hogan could have achieved the top of mountain with literally only 4 moves. Not the most technical wrestler, sure I can understand that, but he has had solid training. Same with Ultimate Warrior, maybe he has even less moves, but doesn't changed the fact that he worked really hard, harder than most people will ever do so, plus had natural abilities to accomplish what he did. I'm not denying that there are more talented wrestlers out there but some credit should be given.
@DarkAero94 yeah and every match he would give a back rake eye rake thumb to the eye turnbuckle punches test of strength some type of headlock sleeper hold so even if you say he didnt use the moves showcased in the video often his 1996 to present repretoire is still more than 4 or 5 moves
I like this for I always try to say the same to friends. You'll see more in most of his Japan run But any type of strike isn't a move.I would have redone this without strikes. That includes Clotheslines and such then it would look better.
All this proves is that Hogan was a shitty wrestler and that you don't appreciate metaphors. lol Hogan only did one impressive move in his whole life and that was the suplex to the boss man off the top of a cage on SNME.
@Brettkenster What you only like high spots? Go jerk off to some indy guy breaking his back for a bunch of smarks doucher. You're not allowed to watch decent wrestling like Puroresu.
This doesn't prove shit. It's commonly known Hogan was decent early in his career, mainly in Japan where fans demand you wrestle to your full potential. However, fact remains that Hogan has been shit for YEARS, mainly in WCW. He's just not a good wrestler
I know some of those are during his later runs in WWE but to the fact is he had lost alot of what made him good in the first place in the last few years he wrestled for WWF and in WCW I think he has the mind to wrestle good matches every now and again the fact that he wont really push anyone is probably the main reason why so many smarks hate him.
Hogan in Japan was a solid wrestler. Hogan in the AWA was a solid wrestler. Hogan in the WWWF, when Vince Sr. was still running things was a decent wrestler. Hogan in the WWF, after the boom, was a lazy bum who wrestled the same match for 6 years.
...also, the # of moves one has doesn't determine their greatness unless they also have charisma, storytellign ability, promo skills, and heat drawing potential. Watch some of the musclebound stiffs WCW/WWF tried to push and you realize that Hogan (and UW for that matter) were very good at what they did. Finally, Hogan's prime was the 70s and 80s. Powerbombs and super-brainbusters and burning hammers simply weren't used then. It's stupid to expect Hogan and say, Benoit to have the same moves.
i never believed that you had to have a ton of moves to be great. i mean look at ricky steamboat. i swear he did the same moves yet he's regarded as one of the greats. i think ppl say hogan sucks because they were/are tired of him. i think the whole "five moves of doom" is just a easy cop out.

Seriously, the main problem I had with Hogan was the FIST PUMP. That Fist Pump was the most devestating move in all of wrestling. Nothing could beat it. Randy Savage could dominate Hogan the entire match, but inevitably Hogan would shake his fists and win the match. LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAME
Americans have small attention spans. They don't like mat wrestling they don't like psychology. They want Hulk Hogan ripping T-shirt and Undertaker playing with the lights or Shawn Michaels stripping. If Americans don't see something exciting within 2 minutes they change the channel to American Idol. That's why Hogan did so little for so long he knew what the lazy American audience wanted.
Actually the "4 Moves" claim by the weenie smarks is just a thinly-veiled attempt to revise history and deny that Hogan is the Babe Ruth of Professional Wrestling and its biggest star ever. @josep3r3z You sound like a typical young pup who fails to realize that the Rock is one of Hogan's biggest FANS. He's a Hulkamaniac who knows the truth. at WrestleMania the fans made it known who the greatest ICON ever was and his name is Hulk Hogan, brother.
i grew up watching hogan......and my favorite wrestlers all time are mr perfect, ric flair, the rock, and the ultimate warrior( yeah he had less moves than hogan but he could bring it). anyways hogan was great on the stick, had loads of charisma, and was great.......but the rock did what hogan did but better
@josep3r3z Maybe he talked a little better and "wrestled" a little better, but even The People's Champ would tell you that NOBODY excited, delighted and caused a wave of emotion in arenas across the world like Hulk Hogan. The man carried the ball for the entire industry not once, but TWICE as a face and a heel, which is unprecedented. He took TWO wrestling companies to the top and even today is capable of drawing money as a senior citizen... LOL But the Rock is definitely one of my top favs too.
People tend to forget that wrestling over in japan is taken more seriously versus wrestling here in the states. Look at Ric Flair in Japan and how much different he is versus some of the matches you would see on Amercian programming where he's doing that flop and other stuff.
Hogan could work, but in WWF he didn't really need to. If anyone has ever seen his match in 94 against Muta in Japan, the proof is there. I once tried to say Batista had 4 moves, cuz I counted for a while, but in match w/ Booker T, he did a total of 11, the most I ever counted. Anyone else notice that Hogan worked like a heel even when he was the biggest babyface in all of wrestling.
It's a figure of speech. No one really uses "four moves". It's a way of saying that he became extremely lazy in his career and his offensive output and variety declined. Another word for this literary device is "hyperbole".
You smarks are idiots. If Hogan was required to do more than punch, big boot, and legdrop...then he would have...or Vince would've gone elsewhere. He always knew what the crowd wanted and would respond to. He was never a "Ringmaster", "Rocky Maivia", "Midnight Rocker", "Terra Ryzing", etc. No one> Hulk Hogan in pro wrestling history. I'm sick of hearing STSA elevated the WWF. Wrong...he merely got them BACK to the place Hogan left them at...on top. And who took them down...uhh, Hogan.
I'm more of the "age and injury has reduced Hogan to a very limited moveset" mentality. Your vid pretty much proves it considering most of this non clothesline or 4 moves of doom moveset was from his earlier years.
@dom316 What gets me about all the "it's just clotheslines" crowd is they don't even know the difference between a clothesline and a lariat. As for the 4 moves of doom watch Rock vs Hogan, he pulls off moves I never knew Hogan knew. Also there's not a wrestler alive that doesn't have a set finisher or chained finish, even guys like Davey Richards have that.
@Westcoastmost90 How does having a chained finish enhance the believability of what the wrestler is doing? If you were wrestling someone who always used the irish whip-big boot to set up his finish, why wouldn't you just grab the rope or grab his boot and take him down? Who would be dumb enough in real life to just run right into his boot as he's holding his leg up in the air? If that's the offense of a "master of ring psychology" I'd hate to see someone who has just average ring psychology!
@TheOtherViolentJ You know what everyone complaining about the axe bombers stfu. there are only 8 axe bombers in the video. If your going to gloss over, Atomic drop, bearhug, back body drop, back breaker, running splash, spinning arm bar, x-arm hold, Sweeping hammerlock , sleep hold, Rock Bottom, Boston Crab, Scoop Powerslam, Bow and Arrow Hold, Big Boot, Atomic Leg Drop, and a fucking Enziguri. The feel free to go watch another video that coincides with your opinion of Hogan.
@TheOtherViolentJ The clothesline was his axe bomber finisher in Japan obviously you didnt watch any of his wrestling in japan otherwise you would know that he had about 17 moves different moves he pulled off there even though they were clumsy he did. wwe is alot different from japanese wrestling they strip down alot of moves and there is alot less freedom in the ring as you would get in japanese wrestling.
As a Hogan fan I always thought he got a bum rap on his wrestling ability. His matches in Japan showed he could wrestle when he needed too. In early wwf he didn't follow the standard formula dominate early lose middle kick out heels finisher hulk up big boot leg drop pin. Actually in WCW as heel Hogan his matches became more back and forth again, even though Hulk was past his prime. He still had some good matches in WCW. For a big man over 6'5 and once topping 300lbs Hogan could really go.
He did do more moves back in the day but I don't really see how that changes him being a fairly average wrestler at best who was just really well marketed, he's not a wrestling legend in the ring for me but the character is most definately legendary. There were far, far better wrestlers in Japan when he was there.
and most of those moves he did in japan like the bow and arrow look like he had just been taught it 5 mintues before the match, or he was taught it ten years before the match but hadn't actually used it in ten years.
Dude's got real talent brother. Thing as he's gotten more and more injured over time so his moveset has decreased a lot. But brother I'm telling you only half of wrestling is actual in ring work. Hogan knows how to work a crowd. Hulk Hogan's in ring work, while not very techical, especially late in his carear, but he was still effective, which is all that one needs, especially if your mic work's as good as his. And if you sell as many tickets as Hogan does brother, that's all you need.
Hogan was one of the smartest wrestlers to ever get in the ring. He knew exactly what would get him over in each promotion he went into. If he was wrestling in front of American fans the theatrical stuff was enough to sell out stadiums, so why change? In Japan, that wouldn't do it so he actually used a wide variety of moves. People called him lazy or untalented, but he was just wise.
Huge thanks for the video. I heard and read about Hogan's other moves, but the wrestling style in North America is different than in Japan, while Hogan's importance and role are different in both places, too. No need to check the whole matches to see those moves, anymore.
He had more moves in Rocky III, compared to his WWF/E experience.
fact his hulk had a variety in his arsenal of moves..the people who say he only had 3 or 4 moves cleary wan to think what ever they think is legit when the dump truck full of footage spanning hulks whole ring life proves he always had a wide arsenal...
hulk good pull off great matches as a power wrestler.for the most part i ignore the marks..waste of time to debate anything with them as they only know what they want to know so why bother with them...lol
Hogan was always a very, very good pro wrestler, but he was unmotivated. He really brought the goods at almost every big match he ever had and was insanely good right before he came to the WWF (82-83). Bags of money and fewer dates turned him a shade lazy. But who could blame him?
But the distinction needs to be made with Hogan. He wasn't 'bad'. Far from it. Lazy? Probably. A more motivated Hogan could've produced an incredible career from an overall body of work standpoint.
I wish HH show those kind of skills in WWF/E. Hulk will b better respected. I knew he can be a better wrestler than that. What happened Vince's pops got scared or something? I making a better Hulk Hogan in Fire Pro Wrestling Returns.
I like Hogan but i already knew that he had more on offer while he was in Japan.
Trained??? well id say that he need alot more training because even though he was worth watching during his tour of Japan he looked very clumsy although his surfboad was pulled off well.
Your right though because ppl tend to think hes limited but he does have alot more moves under his belt than ppl tend to think.
@zZHighTimeZz umm it's a bull shit rated pg the 80's might have pg rated, but the now pg rated is bull. John Cenas new thing is the loyalty, hustle, and respect thing and the newest is cenation it's a load of ass.
He uses a lot of good moves in Japan. Not in the states. Most of the stuff you showed is just different variations of a clothesline, a suplex, a slam or a hold for the wrestlers to catch a breather. I never said Hogan only had 4 moves but he didnt have a whole lot when he wrestled here. In Japan however he was pretty damn good
Is not that he can't wrestle, it is HIS CHARACTER. big muscular guys usually do power moves to show their strength. But Hogan can do many moves, but he did them in japan. another example is big show... he could do moonsaults but wcw wanted him to act like a giant using power moves.
@seploud Yeah ive heard that about the Big Show too but id doubt he could do one now as he was much slimmer in WCW although it never stopped Vader so who knows.
Theres a match where he takes Bret Hart to school in wcw and then beats the living crap out of sting before finally letting sting do something just before Bret Hart comes back to show his allegiance to Hogan. Hogan ruled
@smity19 Hes not a double of Cena but you can sort of compare them, they both have a superman gimmick, i surpose you could comapre the chaingang with the hulkamaniacs and they are both limited in the WWE, hulk Hogan offerd alot more in Japan and Cena was better as the Prototype.
I like Hogan but i just cant stand Cenas role.
Its always the same trend in wrestling even hulkamania was copied from Mulkiemania back in the late 70s early 80s by two brothers in the NWA.
@zZHighTimeZz well let me rephrase do to shitty type. i just don't like the fact that people compare hogan to cena they both may be similar in some ways, but when it comes to a move set hogan has got cena beat. yes they both had super man gimmicks, but hogan appealed to everyone and cena only attracts children and their partents. most of my friends are from the attitude era when wrestling was a little edgy and it was much more entertaining.
@smity19 Yep i have to admit that attitude is the best and thats around the time i got into wrestling but im not keen on the wwe as it stands today but there are people who would argue that attitude ruined wrestling too.
Your right really i guess Hogan did appeal to everyone for the right reasons but Cena just aims at kids who want to be gangster.
I think the thing that turns most hardcore fans off is that his execution doesn't look great. But to be honest, I'll take a guy with sloppy move execution, charisma and a sense of pacing and placement over a guy who can do six great looking variations of an arm bar and has no idea how or when to use it effectively (guys like Davey Richards) or within the context of a match.
So I think Hogan was a good wrestler who worked a structure that worked for him.
While I wouldn't say Hogan was a GREAT wrestler, he used a really fantastic formula and in terms of understanding a crowd, there aren't many better. What's surprising to many about Hogan is how shockingly decent he is on mat when he was working in Japan. The imfamous Inoki match where he cold cocks him off the apron was mostly mat-based, and Hogan worked circles around him. He had a lot of range, but the thing was in the WWF at the time, he didn't really need to dip into the bag of tricks.
While it's neat to see some of this stuff, about half of the clips were him doing clotheslines. That kind of repetition is only useful if you're listing all 1,004 of your holds. By the way, armbar!
You need to redo this and add in his superplex off Big Bossman off the top of the cage, him doing the STF in Japan (way better than Cena does it), swinging neckbreaker, etc. He's got a lot more moves than this.
Here is the best way to describe Hulk. He was never a great wrestler but he could work a bit in his day. All I'm saying is If I were to make a list of the best and worst workers of all time Hogan would not make either of them.
Hogan was great because he is a master of ring psychology, he understood what the crowds wanted and he could give it to them, whatever in america or in japan.
@Alecal89 And understood how to play political mindgames with promoters, make them believe that he was the only good star, even when he's old as f***. Too bad he didn't want to do what was best: help build young guys. An asshole he was, is, and will always be.
@Alecal89 Not necessarily. Psychology-wise, Hogan really didn't do too much except get beat on, oversell, then make the same "Hulking Up" comeback in every match. True, for a long time Hulkamania ran wild and nobody wanted to see Hogan lose so this formula worked. But around the time Ric Flair had his first WWF run in the 90's, Hogan's style didn't go over as well. It didn't really get close to the 80's level until his WWF return in 2002. (Continued in next post)
@Alecal89 Once he squashed Yokozuna at Wrestlemania IX, Hogan never got back to the levels of the early 70's or 80's. The fans wanted to see him on top for a small time in WCW and his first return to the WWF.He only had good matches with guys who were good workers and knew psychology (The Rock, HBK, Jericho) I disagree that he knows what the fans want, he only understands what Hogan wants and doesn't understand that his time has passed.
Not looking to be an ass, just a friendly disagreement :)
Awesome... a lot of people say he only has a few moves and that he could never wrestle. All people have to do is look at most of his Japan matches. He used a bigger moveset over there.
Well I already received some hate mail on some forums, man they work fast, and didn't even comment here. (o_0). Owell glad you all like the video, and while I got a chance I just want to say I'm not saying Hogan was the greatest mat wrestler, or had the best work rate. All I'm saying is he was better than people gave him credit for, and he could wrestle.
I wanted this Hogan on tv, not the very dumbed down version most americans got. His Axe Bomber was damn good too and did he do a rolling armbar AND a enziguri. My view of Hogan as an in ring competior has changed entirely jog well done sir
I get tired of all these haters who say hogan can't wrestle and don't even bother to look at his work in japan or his early days. In my opinon its the haters that are going to kill wrestling.
there is no way Hogan could have achieved the top of mountain with literally only 4 moves. Not the most technical wrestler, sure I can understand that, but he has had solid training. i grew up watching hogan......and my favorite wrestlers all time are mr perfect, ric flair, the rock, and the ultimate warrior( yeah he had less moves than hogan but he could bring it). anyways hogan was great on the stick, had loads of charisma, and was great.......but the rock did what hogan did but better
josep3r3z 5 months ago
@josep3r3z Maybe he talked a little better and "wrestled" a little better, but even The People's Champ would tell you that NOBODY excited, delighted and caused a wave of emotion in arenas across the world like Hulk Hogan. The man carried the ball for the entire industry not once, but TWICE as a face and a heel, which is unprecedented. He took TWO wrestling companies to the top and even today is capable of drawing money as a senior citizen... LOL But the Rock is definitely one of my top favs too.
RAV52 5 months ago
@RAV52
right on, valid arguement
josep3r3z 5 months ago
People tend to forget that wrestling over in japan is taken more seriously versus wrestling here in the states. Look at Ric Flair in Japan and how much different he is versus some of the matches you would see on Amercian programming where he's doing that flop and other stuff.
SexualPhelps69 7 months ago
well... Hulk Hogans 4 moves >>>>>>>>> Cena's whole skill set
Choppaaah 7 months ago
If you want to see Hogan actually wrestle then watch his vids when he wrestled in Japan. My fav. was against the Great Muta.
beyondstitches 7 months ago
but Hogan is still wrestling and is incapable now. No one would care if he could still go like it was 83.
.
TNA is like a herpes pollup growing on the diseased body of what pro wrestling once was.

My fav hogan was NWO Hollywood hogan he was the biggest face in wrestling but he made a pretty good heel too.

Greysockmadman 8 months ago
Hogan could work, but in WWF he didn't really need to. If anyone has ever seen his match in 94 against Muta in Japan, the proof is there. I once tried to say Batista had 4 moves, cuz I counted for a while, but in match w/ Booker T, he did a total of 11, the most I ever counted. Anyone else notice that Hogan worked like a heel even when he was the biggest babyface in all of wrestling.
Greysockmadman 8 months ago
so he has 1 move
...the clothesline

@jmg3116 I think you're getting confused. There's nothing wrong with rating a worker... I'm just saying Hogan is an average one.

'bout damn time someone sets the record straight. great vid.
iwanttoseemrshow 8 months ago
It's a figure of speech. No one really uses "four moves". It's a way of saying that he became extremely lazy in his career and his offensive output and variety declined. Another word for this literary device is "hyperbole".
terracottapie 8 months ago
You smarks are idiots. If Hogan was required to do more than punch, big boot, and legdrop...then he would have...or Vince would've gone elsewhere. He always knew what the crowd wanted and would respond to. He was never a "Ringmaster", "Rocky Maivia", "Midnight Rocker", "Terra Ryzing", etc. No one> Hulk Hogan in pro wrestling history. I'm sick of hearing STSA elevated the WWF. Wrong...he merely got them BACK to the place Hogan left them at...on top. And who took them down...uhh, Hogan.
cbaldwinjr 8 months ago
I'm more of the "age and injury has reduced Hogan to a very limited moveset" mentality. Your vid pretty much proves it considering most of this non clothesline or 4 moves of doom moveset was from his earlier years.
dom316 9 months ago
@dom316 What gets me about all the "it's just clotheslines" crowd is they don't even know the difference between a clothesline and a lariat. As for the 4 moves of doom watch Rock vs Hogan, he pulls off moves I never knew Hogan knew. Also there's not a wrestler alive that doesn't have a set finisher or chained finish, even guys like Davey Richards have that.
Westcoastmost90 9 months ago
@Westcoastmost90 How does having a chained finish enhance the believability of what the wrestler is doing? If you were wrestling someone who always used the irish whip-big boot to set up his finish, why wouldn't you just grab the rope or grab his boot and take him down? Who would be dumb enough in real life to just run right into his boot as he's holding his leg up in the air? If that's the offense of a "master of ring psychology" I'd hate to see someone who has just average ring psychology!
Kendall2001 7 months ago
I had to stop halfway through the video. You should not put 17 clothsline clips in a video trying to convince me he has more then 4 moves
TheOtherViolentJ 9 months ago

@jmg3116 I'm actually impressed that he was able to do an enziguri considering how big he is.
PeterBluth 3 months ago
@TheOtherViolentJ The clothesline was his axe bomber finisher in Japan obviously you didnt watch any of his wrestling in japan otherwise you would know that he had about 17 moves different moves he pulled off there even though they were clumsy he did. wwe is alot different from japanese wrestling they strip down alot of moves and there is alot less freedom in the ring as you would get in japanese wrestling.
zZHighTimeZz 6 months ago
That bearhug to Abdoolah in damn impressive.
MrGlasspider 9 months ago
As a Hogan fan I always thought he got a bum rap on his wrestling ability. His matches in Japan showed he could wrestle when he needed too. In early wwf he didn't follow the standard formula dominate early lose middle kick out heels finisher hulk up big boot leg drop pin. Actually in WCW as heel Hogan his matches became more back and forth again, even though Hulk was past his prime. He still had some good matches in WCW. For a big man over 6'5 and once topping 300lbs Hogan could really go.
UltMitSinner78 9 months ago
Most of these clips are from Japan
Hogan was unable to half-ass it in Japan like he could for an American crowd.
Sneezlebob 9 months ago
He did do more moves back in the day but I don't really see how that changes him being a fairly average wrestler at best who was just really well marketed, he's not a wrestling legend in the ring for me but the character is most definately legendary. There were far, far better wrestlers in Japan when he was there.
dwoverdose52 9 months ago
you showed about ten clotheslines/axe bombers
and most of those moves he did in japan like the bow and arrow look like he had just been taught it 5 mintues before the match, or he was taught it ten years before the match but hadn't actually used it in ten years.
but I am also a Hogan fan, i'm just saying.
iknowme 10 months ago
That leg lock back breaker move was pretty awesome. It's cool to see what Hogan could do back in the day. Gotta love it when he uses the Axe Bomber.
Redmage24 10 months ago
Dude's got real talent brother. Thing as he's gotten more and more injured over time so his moveset has decreased a lot. But brother I'm telling you only half of wrestling is actual in ring work. Hogan knows how to work a crowd. Hulk Hogan's in ring work, while not very techical, especially late in his carear, but he was still effective, which is all that one needs, especially if your mic work's as good as his. And if you sell as many tickets as Hogan does brother, that's all you need.
Moredread25 10 months ago
Reminds me of a slogan on a side of mixed nuts: Less than 50% clotheslines!
VonCouch 10 months ago
Hogan was one of the smartest wrestlers to ever get in the ring. He knew exactly what would get him over in each promotion he went into. If he was wrestling in front of American fans the theatrical stuff was enough to sell out stadiums, so why change? In Japan, that wouldn't do it so he actually used a wide variety of moves. People called him lazy or untalented, but he was just wise.
CombatSportFan 10 months ago

Huge thanks for the video. I heard and read about Hogan's other moves, but the wrestling style in North America is different than in Japan, while Hogan's importance and role are different in both places, too. No need to check the whole matches to see those moves, anymore.
He had more moves in Rocky III, compared to his WWF/E experience.

Hulk Hogan Is THE GREATEST Of ALL TIME! Babe Ruth Of Professional Wrestling
RENZDOGG 1 year ago
Hogan was always a very, very good pro wrestler, but he was unmotivated. He really brought the goods at almost every big match he ever had and was insanely good right before he came to the WWF (82-83). Bags of money and fewer dates turned him a shade lazy. But who could blame him?
But the distinction needs to be made with Hogan. He wasn't 'bad'. Far from it. Lazy? Probably. A more motivated Hogan could've produced an incredible career from an overall body of work standpoint.
Towney007 1 year ago 4

John Cenas new thing is the loyalty, hustle, and respect thing and the newest is cenation it's a load of ass.
smity19 1 year ago
He uses a lot of good moves in Japan. Not in the states. Most of the stuff you showed is just different variations of a clothesline, a suplex, a slam or a hold for the wrestlers to catch a breather. I never said Hogan only had 4 moves but he didnt have a whole lot when he wrestled here. In Japan however he was pretty damn good

Hogan was only allowed to do certain moves, as part of his character.
He was as technically good as anyone of his era
MrCeej9999 1 year ago
Is not that he can't wrestle, it is HIS CHARACTER. big muscular guys usually do power moves to show their strength. But Hogan can do many moves, but he did them in japan. another example is big show... he could do moonsaults but wcw wanted him to act like a giant using power moves.
seploud 1 year ago
@seploud Yeah ive heard that about the Big Show too but id doubt he could do one now as he was much slimmer in WCW although it never stopped Vader so who knows.
zZHighTimeZz 1 year ago
Theres a match where he takes Bret Hart to school in wcw and then beats the living crap out of sting before finally letting sting do something just before Bret Hart comes back to show his allegiance to Hogan. Hogan ruled
me31669 1 year ago
Fans need to stop saying he's lick John Cena. Cena can't do halve if the shut that the hulkster did back in the day.
smity19 1 year ago
@smity19 Hes not a double of Cena but you can sort of compare them, they both have a superman gimmick, i surpose you could comapre the chaingang with the hulkamaniacs and they are both limited in the WWE, hulk Hogan offerd alot more in Japan and Cena was better as the Prototype.
I like Hogan but i just cant stand Cenas role.
Its always the same trend in wrestling even hulkamania was copied from Mulkiemania back in the late 70s early 80s by two brothers in the NWA.
zZHighTimeZz 1 year ago
@zZHighTimeZz well let me rephrase do to shitty type. i just don't like the fact that people compare hogan to cena they both may be similar in some ways, but when it comes to a move set hogan has got cena beat. yes they both had super man gimmicks, but hogan appealed to everyone and cena only attracts children and their partents. most of my friends are from the attitude era when wrestling was a little edgy and it was much more entertaining.
smity19 1 year ago
@smity19 Yep i have to admit that attitude is the best and thats around the time i got into wrestling but im not keen on the wwe as it stands today but there are people who would argue that attitude ruined wrestling too.
Your right really i guess Hogan did appeal to everyone for the right reasons but Cena just aims at kids who want to be gangster.

Hulk Hogan Made Wrestling World wide. He took it to another level.
drasm799 1 year ago
I think the thing that turns most hardcore fans off is that his execution doesn't look great. But to be honest, I'll take a guy with sloppy move execution, charisma and a sense of pacing and placement over a guy who can do six great looking variations of an arm bar and has no idea how or when to use it effectively (guys like Davey Richards) or within the context of a match.
So I think Hogan was a good wrestler who worked a structure that worked for him.
Towney007 1 year ago
While I wouldn't say Hogan was a GREAT wrestler, he used a really fantastic formula and in terms of understanding a crowd, there aren't many better. What's surprising to many about Hogan is how shockingly decent he is on mat when he was working in Japan. The imfamous Inoki match where he cold cocks him off the apron was mostly mat-based, and Hogan worked circles around him. He had a lot of range, but the thing was in the WWF at the time, he didn't really need to dip into the bag of tricks.
Towney007 1 year ago
While it's neat to see some of this stuff, about half of the clips were him doing clotheslines. That kind of repetition is only useful if you're listing all 1,004 of your holds. By the way, armbar!

You need to redo this and add in his superplex off Big Bossman off the top of the cage, him doing the STF in Japan (way better than Cena does it), swinging neckbreaker, etc. He's got a lot more moves than this.

Hogan was great because he is a master of ring psychology, he understood what the crowds wanted and he could give it to them, whatever in america or in japan.
Alecal89 1 year ago 19
@Alecal89 And understood how to play political mindgames with promoters, make them believe that he was the only good star, even when he's old as f***. Too bad he didn't want to do what was best: help build young guys. An asshole he was, is, and will always be.
JohnACorp782 9 months ago
@Alecal89 Not necessarily. Psychology-wise, Hogan really didn't do too much except get beat on, oversell, then make the same "Hulking Up" comeback in every match. True, for a long time Hulkamania ran wild and nobody wanted to see Hogan lose so this formula worked. But around the time Ric Flair had his first WWF run in the 90's, Hogan's style didn't go over as well. It didn't really get close to the 80's level until his WWF return in 2002. (Continued in next post)
KISSFAN4EVER6 5 months ago 3
@Alecal89 Once he squashed Yokozuna at Wrestlemania IX, Hogan never got back to the levels of the early 70's or 80's. The fans wanted to see him on top for a small time in WCW and his first return to the WWF.He only had good matches with guys who were good workers and knew psychology (The Rock, HBK, Jericho) I disagree that he knows what the fans want, he only understands what Hogan wants and doesn't understand that his time has passed.
Not looking to be an ass, just a friendly disagreement :)
