Batalov is no doubt a great dancer, but come on. That's just a moderately high a la seconde at 0:02 with head turned to side pretending it's an arabesque.
The purpose and the aesthetics of the arabesque is to show the narrow profile of the leg and torso. Here we get to see the wide frontal of the torso and leg and foot. There's a good reason you hide the heel on the working leg in arabesque. That's how you get the long contour of the arabesque.
@theprimadancer101 What's your point? Can hold an a la seconde and twist my head and pretend it is a super high arabesque? Sure, but I prefer holding a real arabesque.
He is the best male dancer in Kirov and never has been promoted to principal. Can somebody enlighten me about this act of unjustice???!!! He should be considered as the best male dancer of the last 10 years!! At least in Russia, which is practically to say in the rest of the world, as well!
@highinsteps if what u say is true then of course you should notice that it was a "trick" arabesque, look at the way he is twisting his torso, it's more of an ecaté actually :P
@MrNocco nocco please you are in my heart, but please this is a dream arabesque, batalov at that time was probabily the greatest dancer of the kirov, and today also may be.
@MrNocco look great ,this boy was phenomenal, and unlucky the greatest kirov dancer is not a principal, very unright.watch his bayadere ,watch his don q coda scissor jump, phenomenal.
@MrNocco - You are correct. A true arabesque is when the hips are square and the leg is straight back. This "Open" arabesque was common at the NYC Ballet with Farrell and the ballerinas of that generation, even today's. They would do a develope a la seconde and twist their torso front. Still, Batalov makes it exciting and beautiful.
i have seen it already is ubelievable he ahs performed only twice as Solor, i personally know Vaziev..i guess he's jelous of Andrei or maybe Andrei's attitude as a dancer in the company prevents him to get higher status. (Often happens that a very cocky male dancer, get artistically punished, no matter how good he is)
l know he was jelous, but now vaziev, since jenuary,is in italy working at la scala as artistic and technical director ,doing l must admit a good work, having also his wife chetckikova as ballet teacher.let's hope that the under rated magnificent batalov will be better treated,he is not far from 36 ,time is against him
@roosaaremartin717 I did not time to fractions of a second, but it took him about one second to reach his peak and then he held it for about another second.
I'm pretty sure Batalov's arabesque, at least the one in the beginning, is no more square than Ruzimatov's... you can definitely tell that Batalov's is almost an a la seconde position... but still gorgeous!
Tanks, thanks a lllloootttt ! My God ! It`s so amazing, fabulous, great. No words are enough to
decribe this and them . I can`nt stop of waching

As a professional ballet dancer for 20 years with the best companies I have never seen a better arabesque on a boy dancer. A wonderful artist.
