I would pay to see this concert one more time i was at the 3 popmart shows in new jersey and it was loud. I also saw 360 2 times there and loud but i tell you what i would love to hear pop songs live more!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'll bet the critics in the Vegas media had a field day after this show! My first U2 concert was in Winnipeg a month or two later and the sound wasn't very good. It didn't help that I was way in the back of a football stadium either. Popmart was basically a failure as far as U2 standards go but the next tour they totally redeemed themselves.
I guess I'm one of the few people who really, really like this concert. The bootleg of it is one of my favorites...as sad as it is I've never thought much of the mistakes...just that they were part of the show...
This is the best a RnR band can do when the lead guitar fails, anyway. Adam could have been a bit more flexible, though. Bono's singing over the droning tone at the beginning was great.
Since it was the first show, I'm positive that it took a long time for audience to realize that something was wrong.
The one thing that you have to remember is that this was the first show of their tour so there were bound to be screw-ups...that being said, moving on to the video, this video was never meant to be released to the public so the fact that the camera is not always on the band isn't so important. They were probably using the close-up the disco-ball lemon as a background for the HUGE video screen.
This was a good tour but unfortunately they went under-rehearsed. This show suffered from technical problems, especially in this song when the Edge's effect pedals aren't working and guitar cuts out.
A few songs went well for this show, Mofo for example.
The snippet at the end of the song is the Howie B Hairy B Mix of Discotheque if anyone's wondering and is on the Discotheque single.
You can even hear Bono giggle slightly on the third "booom cha". xD
I think what made it even more comical was the guy messing around with the video camera, lol. Can only think he must've been practising. Same all the way through the Las Vegas captures.
I like 2 see bands have tech difficulties like this. I was there. While they were under-rehearsed, Edges effects/sound cut out. To get any sound, he had to play without effects. And B's vocal was too high in the mix. He also told the crowd that the 'hot and dry Vegas air' was messing with his voice.
That was awful, start to finish lol. Bono's Boom cha's were cringeworthy, the guitar was totally array, Adams bass carried it. The snippet was like wtf. Discotheque and the tour improved alot as it progressed.
As I listen to it, it looks like they didn't rehearse this song before concert, but anyway, ending of the song(snippets, or what it is)is hilarious, especially that bono's voice :D
Listen to 4:35(music) they were perfectly in control. This is just poor quality recording thats it AND extra bits added thats not linked to Live. But like DaniMofo said I'd give anything or even my balls to see this again!!! Ta
Completely disastrous by U2 standards. Either it was Edge who botched it big time or it was the guitar technician/roadie's fault. Bono never lost his grip though. Still a mess.
Did they offer a refund for this show?

I think The Edge said he couldn't see the pedals because there was too much smoke on the stage that night.

this is the price you pay for booking a tour to far in advance. No time for concert practice.

to be fair though, most of us have never played up in front of a crowd that large. I know I would have been terrified.
