I'm so glad the HP slate and the Blackberry Playbook are still coming into the market soon, now THOSE are tablets (videocalls and flash, baby).
@sahcnam1 For your information, this tablet will NOT compete with the former iPad. And yes, the iPad have multitasking capability just like any other Apple product. In the next gen. iPad we'll see a camera, and it will be able to have video calling. So you see any portability in the courier with a double screen? Yeah, that's really portable ;) The iPad is good for any college of school kid, and of course for any business person. The ipad don't need to have flash for your information ;)

My guess is they ran into technical difficulties with either battery life or the hinge or trying to add more and more features to make it the ultimate device.

this is a very good video, very informative and well thought out. It's interesting to hear what you have to say about MS Courier and Apple Tablet. You almost described the ipad perfectly even though it was 7 months away from release. He only got the camera part wrong, but i think apple pulled the camera out in the last moment. Ipad was designed to be for fun rather than work.
MS Courier is designed to be practical and useful. MS better live up to expectations of these videos.

So I've got my Apple MacBook, that's replaced my Apple iMac, and my Apple iPod Touch... but the Courier looks beautiful! Great to see some style and innovation coming from Microsoft, I really hope the real thing is just as impressive. Really looking forward to this (just hope that syncing between Apple and Microsoft won't be too much of a struggle...)

Why is this called "Microsoft Courier Tablet vs. Apple tablet showdown" when there are no examples of the iPad functionality? Just a lot of jabbering while the showing a "vision" of what Microsoft "might" put out. This is def. a MS commercial of some sort.
I restored my faith after using Win 7 really. I used to be mega anti-MS person, and now I actually like where the company is heading!
Win7 works and it is so much fun to use! It is, in my opinion, a much superior OS than OSX. OSX's interface feels so extremely dated. I don't want to use 90s UI really, I want contemporary and Win7 is just that! I hardly run into any issues with Win7.
Now, I think (as far as the previews go) Courier is a superior machine to iPad. So, I am swayign towards Courier when it comes to Tablet choices but it may end up being only for business in that case I will buy the iPad because I am in love with my iPod touch.
Microsoft Courier for me and zune for me to, i hate using macs at work and i hated my ipod classic that i had for over a 2years atm im back using a sony diskmen. this looks much nicer to me cause its a book, smaller and the screens will be more protected when its closed
@ grim760 Flash is going to die a pretty quick death soon this year. All these Flash commenst are a joke. The abilities that flash offers programmers will soon be built into the next web standards (I think FireFox already has it) & every developer will eventually move to that as it's not proprietary.
Check your facts. It doesn't need to be fully implemented for it's features to be used by browsers right now, as many of the components are all ready stable. Firefox does support the new features I mentioned. Also Apples crash statistics shows that the majority of time a crash occurs on a Mac is is caused by Adobes Flash. A result of their poor programming no doubt.
Courier IMO seems more useful for people that intend to do research of some kind - from high school homework to professional work (science, lawyers, design, etc), Much more functional than the IPAD IMO.
Well it's not gonna take much to beat the ipad. If the pc tablet supports adobe flash then it kind of already won the race. Why would i pay 500 dollars for something that my ipod touch can do. The only differance is a bigger screen, and paint brushes. which i think there's an app for. If the pc tablet can do half the things they are rumored to do, then they will surely make apple look stupid.
Do people really need to hear about a comparison of products that aren't out on the market. The so-called features were based on rumours at the time this was released. The presenter has made Microsofts device superior in enterprise while Apple's is purely a novelty. Having seen the iPad presentation, I look forward to seeing what this new category of device brings, both from Apple and Microsoft.

My five, only in favor of apple, are: 1:The app store. 2:iTunes. 3:The iPad isnt going to fold when youre trying to use it in your lap. 4:Its most likely cheaper. 5:Apples have much less problems than windows and microsoft does. And 6 (Just for the hell of it) The size. yeah, two screens, that look each about two inches thick. Thats 4 inches incase you cant add. The iPad weighs 1.5 pounds, and is a .5 inch thick. This Courier thing looks instantly useful like the video says. Just writing and drawing alone makes it great. Multi-touch is fine for some things, but a stylist is VERY useful. Also: It being a Microsoft product means we'd likely have an open source playground for developers- unlike on Apple Hardware.

Share documents? Connect to a real business email like exchange server? Damn, even copy And Paste (Fixed on this last version). I agree that Iphone works great, quick, and "cracked" can handle alot of stuff. Yes, I personally know more than 1 business people using iPhones for business. For what you get, iPhones are not expensive, and btw there are iPhone apps for Telnet ;) I've used them for my dedicated server. There is absolutely nothing a windows phone, Nokia phone or blackberry can do that an iPhone can't.

I had the same sentiment. The iPad had focused too much on the too little things i feel. They should've just equiped their succesful iMac (which i own and love) with tablet capabilities. Hell, even Dell Latitue XT2 now is cooler than the iMacs

@GarebearShields there is BB messenger, very popular and witch drives many users to buy them. There are similar products on iphone, but often, people will get it to chat for free... And funny, they say: it's better for work. most of them never opened an xls, pdf or doc on their phone.

I agree with you but apple has lowered there price on alot of their computers. A macmini starts at $599. Macbook starts at $999. True you can get a comparable windows laptop for less but if you add the cost of antivirus software that tends to drive the price of a windows pc up. You get what you pay for.

Why are you beating around the bush. When trial software expires you have to purchase a new one or else. This adds to the cost wether it comes upfront or 30 days later.
That's not beating around the bush. If the trial software is not to the user's liking, then the user has the option of deleting it from their hard disk and finding a different route.
I'd buy the Courier tablet over Apple's device based on the design and , to a lesser degree, the novelty factor. I'd also consider buying media devices that compete directly with Apple's offerings because they often have practical features unseen on their Apple competitors.
Courier will be killed off when Google partner with multiple manufacturers and release Android on a portable tablet. This is what the big G has been waiting for.
1. The market predicts what Apple will do and bungle over the "me first" idea.
2. Apple obliterate all competition with their ground breaking device.
3. After laying the groud work on a new niche market Google introduce their open platform and reign in consumers from all other Apple-copy players.

So I've got my Apple MacBook, that's replaced my Apple iMac, and my Apple iPod Touch... but the Courier looks beautiful! Great to see some style and innovation coming from Microsoft, I really hope the real thing is just as impressive. Really looking forward to this (just hope that syncing between Apple and Microsoft won't be too much of a struggle...)

I am really psyched about MS Courier however. One thing would be a massive let down if it didn't support media streaming (video and music), some sort of office program and have games!

I restored my faith after using Win 7 really. I used to be mega anti-MS person, and now I actually like where the company is heading!
Win7 works and it is so much fun to use! It is, in my opinion, a much superior OS than OSX. OSX's interface feels so extremely dated. I don't want to use 90s UI really, I want contemporary and Win7 is just that! I hardly run into any issues with Win7.

Now, I think (as far as the previews go) Courier is a superior machine to iPad. So, I am swayign towards Courier when it comes to Tablet choices but it may end up being only for business in that case I will buy the iPad because I am in love with my iPod touch.

Microsoft Courier for me and zune for me to, i hate using macs at work and i hated my ipod classic that i had for over a 2years atm im back using a sony diskmen. this looks much nicer to me cause its a book, smaller and the screens will be more protected when its closed

The abilities that flash offers programmers will soon be built into the next web standards (I think FireFox already has it) & every developer will eventually move to that as it's not proprietary.

Check your facts. It doesn't need to be fully implemented for it's features to be used by browsers right now, as many of the components are all ready stable. Firefox does support the new features I mentioned. Also Apples crash statistics shows that the majority of time a crash occurs on a Mac is is caused by Adobes Flash. A result of their poor programming no doubt.

Courier IMO seems more useful for people that intend to do research of some kind - from high school homework to professional work (science, lawyers, design, etc), Much more functional than the IPAD IMO.

Well it's not gonna take much to beat the ipad. If the pc tablet supports adobe flash then it kind of already won the race. Why would i pay 500 dollars for something that my ipod touch can do. The only differance is a bigger screen, and paint brushes. which i think there's an app for. If the pc tablet can do half the things they are rumored to do, then they will surely make apple look stupid.

Do people really need to hear about a comparison of products that aren't out on the market. The so-called features were based on rumours at the time this was released. The presenter has made Microsofts device superior in enterprise while Apple's is purely a novelty. Having seen the iPad presentation, I look forward to seeing what this new category of device brings, both from Apple and Microsoft.

actually, i do believe that Gates spoke of a tablet device back in '99.
apple's will take off in 2010 because it's geared towards younger people and looks like more of a toy than anything else. no doubt it looks incredible and i'm sure it's a fantastic device, but it's just a blown up version of an ipod/iphone. nothing new here.

@tlkshowhst fuck the courier. It's all business. You can take the iPad and get a lot of business apps and make it a business tablet. But Microsoft is specializing it so much, and making it so unfriendly to non-business users that they'll probably just release it for half the price and rely on xbox and OS sales to get money to keep working on it. It's going to suck.

What about Vista? vista didn't suck, and they make you spend more money again by putting out windows 7? Your company is doing the same thing.

My five, only in favor of apple, are: 1:The app store. 2:iTunes. 3:The iPad isnt going to fold when youre trying to use it in your lap. 4:Its most likely cheaper. 5:Apples have much less problems than windows and microsoft does. And 6 (Just for the hell of it) The size. yeah, two screens, that look each about two inches thick. Thats 4 inches incase you cant add. The iPad weighs 1.5 pounds, and is a .5 inch thick. And its a better media player! BTW

@bengal85932 Ultimately, they are different products for different people. Personally I'm disappointed with the ipad. I already have an iphone and this ipad offers absolutely nothing new. This Courier thing looks instantly useful like the video says. Just writing and drawing alone makes it great. Multi-touch is fine for some things, but a stylist is VERY useful. Also: It being a Microsoft product means we'd likely have an open source playground for developers- unlike on Apple Hardware.

Share documents? Connect to a real business email like exchange server? Damn, even copy And Paste (Fixed on this last version). I agree that Iphone works great, quick, and "cracked" can handle alot of stuff. But face it, you can just read your email, and write documents for your self, you cant do any business there except to connect to an intranet and do stuff (web app) which any other phone on earth can do. Play songs, videos and games is not business, u havent tested a windows one yet i bet

Cuz theres alot that have one just cuz its cute and expensive. I have never seen a business working man with an iPhone, sorry. (Btw i like it, but i have tested it and a windows phone, and its quite different, also Nokia N Series are great for work, you can admin servers via Telnet, this "advanced" stuff its something apple never had.

Yes, I personally know more than 1 business people using iPhones for business. For what you get, iPhones are not expensive, and btw there are iPhone apps for Telnet ;) I've used them for my dedicated server. There is absolutely nothing a windows phone, Nokia phone or blackberry can do that an iPhone can't.

@GarebearShields I'm sick of this "feature" people spout on about. Find me 4,000 apps that are actually useful. and even if you do, they wont all fit on your iphone, along with your movies and music. Face is, over 90% of apps are awful degenerate wastes of time. Yes, there are useful and interesting apps, but there is maybe 100 that are universally helpful and good. saying there are 140,000 apps is like saying there are 16 million ways 6 lego bricks can be connected: WHO CARES.

I had the same sentiment. The iPad had focused too much on the too little things i feel. They should've just equiped their succesful iMac (which i own and love) with tablet capabilities. Hell, even Dell Latitue XT2 now is cooler than the iMacs

I am very interested in the iPad, for it complements the iPhone greatly, has no windows (haha), has organic apps (both OS apps like agenda, and 3rd party like games) and seems to read well (supported by a good bookstore!).
but i like the versatility the Courier seems to have (stylus/touch, the edit-wheel, dual screen, camera, etc). and seeing this not running on Windows still doesn't convince me..

@GarebearShields there is BB messenger, very popular and witch drives many users to buy them. There are similar products on iphone, but often, people will get it to chat for free... And funny, they say: it's better for work. most of them never opened an xls, pdf or doc on their phone.

@GarebearShields I've had both a blackberry and iphone and i would have to say you are right, but blackberries have a much more robust email service than the iphone has The worst thing about the iphone is that its overseen by Apple- a company that is SO closed doors. They dont let users ticker with their products and have them organically innovate software.

I agree with you but apple has lowered there price on alot of their computers. A macmini starts at $599. Macbook starts at $999. True you can get a comparable windows laptop for less but if you add the cost of antivirus software that tends to drive the price of a windows pc up. You get what you pay for.

I'd buy the Courier tablet over Apple's device based on the design and , to a lesser degree, the novelty factor. I'd also consider buying media devices that compete directly with Apple's offerings because they often have practical features unseen on their Apple competitors.

Courier will be killed off when Google partner with multiple manufacturers and release Android on a portable tablet. This is what the big G has been waiting for.
1. The market predicts what Apple will do and bungle over the "me first" idea.
2. Apple obliterate all competition with their ground breaking device.
3. After laying the groud work on a new niche market Google introduce their open platform and reign in consumers from all other Apple-copy players.
