  • Extraordinary and passionate.. brings tears to my eyes.

  • Reminds me why I can't stand ballet. Just close my eyes and listen to the music! Great stuff from Prokofiev.

  • Beautiful dancing, very emotional that brings tears to my eyes. An excellent tribute to Shakespeare as well as to Prokofiev.

  • Very emotional and passionate, sends tears to my eyes...

  • And all of a sudden, I like ballet.

  • They're dancing out their lives

  • So exquisite..breathtaking really.

  • Viola d'amore...

    Where fantasies are born...

She felt soft inside trusting her destiny...

Only, the two of them can feel, read each other's thoughts...

Sensations, understanding, were completing each other...

She found a link to her desire and sense...

A voice to her own secrets...

    She found her…soul mate...

  • A thing of beauty is a joy forever, including this! Three cheers for the composer also, what a thrill it must be to be able to dance to this best version of "Romeo and Juliet"!

  • Para mim os maiores bailarinos de sempre. A melhor parceria que já houve. O meu sentido Tributo

  • This is such a beautiful and passionate piece and we are so lucky to have documentation of the originally Romeo and Juliet dancing together. It's really a bit of magic

  • One of the extremely rare kisses in ballet. It was a mutual decision between Fonteyn and Nureyev that the scene was so passionate, it needed a kiss.

  • Sublime

  • Wish there was footage of the intended original cast... Lynn Seymour and Christopher Gable... not that Nureyev isn't wonderful, that goes without saying. But apparently the original dancers McMillain created this ballet around were extraordinary actor/dancers.

  • wonderful!!!!!!

  • Thou know'st the mask of night is on my face,

Else would a maiden blush bepaint my cheek

For that which thou hast heard me speak to-night

Fain would I dwell on form, fain, fain deny

What I have spoke: but farewell compliment!

  • I always cry when i here this.. Such wonderful music... Thank you for posting....

  • There is nothing quite like this. The whole package is the last word in art.

  • Exquisite! They loved each other so much. They are so beautiful.

  • wonderful !

  • I've seen dancers with better technique do this scene, and yet it's not half as touching. They were legendary.

  • @Amelie578 because dance is not only about technique. there has to be a hearth to it...but I am sure you know it as well :)

    Beautiful piece!

  • By far my favorite dance moment of all time!!

  • Beautiful in every way!

  • wonderful!!!!!!!!

  • Im speechless!!!!! The music is so wonderful!!!!!!!

  • This music is like heaven.... Thanks for posting...

  • Superb !! magnifique.

  • I've sat here crying watching that. Thank God we have footage of them dancing together. An impossible love.

  • the music is incredible though

  • gorgeous :)

  • Amazing,it was just beautiful.

They both make it look so easy (:

    IloveeddIt

  • Beautiful

  • Nereyev is an incredibly inspirational dancer to so many others, and Fonteyn is also.

I thought it was beautiful, but I have seen better technique, though that doesn't make it less passionate.

  • MARGOT just to say to you up there i think your beautiful and magical i wish you were still here thankyou!

  • plaka m kaneis??? pote t eixe h voulh thleorash auto?

  • i really felt the atmosphere of love.....

    stunning!!

    beautiful!!!

    my favorite romeo&juliet!!!!

  • AS BREATHTAKING AS EVER...DIVINE !!

  • This woman (in her late 29's/early 30's ?) is dancing in the role of a 13 year old girl experiencing her first real love - written by a middle aged, middle class, Elizabethan man - and it is totally convincing. HOW GOOD IS THAT !!! Nury is great too.

  • Wow, I was blown away. Aside from being great dancers, they were also exceptional actors.

  • Fonteyn tells the story through her eyes...although many of todays dancers are fantastic technically, they come no where to close to both Fonteyn and Nureyev's artistry

  • They are magic together!

  • Es de lo mas perfecto que vi nunca...

    Rudick y Margo...los extrañamos!!!!!!

  • Awesome .........

  • You can see every muscle on him....

  • Stunning!

  • What a dream!...

  • beautiful

  • This was beautiful.

  • ONe thing i luv about margot fonteyn is that she didn't have great feet or extensions , but she was still a very passionate dancer. The Pas de deux makes me cry ! : )

  • just wonderful. though i prefer russian dancers from this era, there is no better pairing than fonteyn and nureyev in romeo and juliet. just so perfect, so real. amazing how she could still portray a teenage girl and make it completely believable well into her 50's.

  • i doubt they would have done a better job at thhis ballet, margot and rudolph are two of the greatest and most infamous dancers there was.

  • i'm doing a research paper on Rudolf, and this TOTALLY proves my point, that he changed ballet for male dancers! this was so beautiful!!!!!!!!!!

  • You're right with is ideas and choreography in later years he changed the future of today male dancers

  • This is just stunning- it's my favourite pas de deux ever

  • Juliet was actually 13, guys.

  • This version of Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet was choreographed by Kenneth MacMillan for Christopher Gable and Lynn Seymour in 1965 when they were both in the Royal Ballet in London. They were very disappointed when the debut performance was given to Nureyev and Fonteyn. Gable and Seymour were 100 times better at the ballet and really brought it to life, made it passionate. Wish there was a video of them.

  • i doubt they would have done a better job at thhis ballet, margot and rudolph are two of the greatest and most infamous dancers there was.

  • hey man i got to say i can imagine lyne symour was amazing amazing in this . do u know her? macmillian made alot of works on her body but margot did the opeing nights. seymour was his real muse.

u must see her once. not only beautiful lines she makes with her body. connecting her legs to the shape of her neck and arms. amazing work. and such passion. u got to see her

  • it is not that they did a better but a very passionate and different kind of freedom. but margot rocks. i love to watch her. she is so light and free and i love that she is like 50 years old or something and he is so young. i hear he really helped improv her technique even at her age. that is cool. u can teach an old dog new tricks!!

  • This is one of the most sublime, beautiful things I have ever seen.

  • This is one of the most sublime, beautiful things I have ever seen.

  • Yes.

  • How old was she on this tape? Was she about 40 and he about 20??

  • We just added this great video to VoxDance (new dance video website). Thanks for posting it!

On VoxDance you'll find the best video of Ballet, contemporary dance, flamenco, indian dance and belly dance.

  • I wish I could have had the chance to see them in person...I don't think youtube videos really do them justice :)

  • its scary how she can be 14!!!

  • Fabulous. Astonishing.

  • Amazing. The athleticism of Nureyev and the grace of Fonteyn are perfectly matched to Prokofiev's achingly beautiful music.

  • I cry every time I watch this.

  • nureyev is a hottie! =D

  • Wow! Pure beauty. We send material to outer space hoping some alien culture will see it and have an idea what we are like. This clip shows the male/female essence to perfection.

    They would envy us earthlings!

  • i love the balcony scene and this is amazing

  • They're so gorgeous!! Will it happen again to see such a beauty? I hope so even if it'll be difficult to find out so skillful dancers.

  • Constant inspiration...

  • the both of them make each other look so beautiful...

  • Isn't the movement just beautiful.

  • Classic.

They do not seem 20 years apart in age when they dance.

    Lovely.

    Thankyou.

  • feeling so lucky that I've seen her dance Juliet at Gala performance in Tokyo in 1977, she is beautiful, and their match is just so

    legendery!

    Thankyou.

  • dear 77 we agree with U totally lets hear more from you sweeties

  • OMG - this is so beautiful. What chemistry Fonteyn and Nurejev had!!

    Thanks for posting this video.

  • Thanks for uploading, ... i remember i dropped my tears in this act when i saw it years ago...

  • FYI I was referring to the guy that said that he didn't find this video captivating.

  • I saw them dance Romeo and Juliet soon after he defected. It was transformational for me. Her beauty and his charisma.

  • nureyev started ballet at a very late age. when he was around 17 students in his class told him that he had no tecnique and he would never be able to dance. this proves them wrong! i wonder what those idiotic people are doing now...

  • loved it... but nueyevs tecnique aint AMAZING... and the lift at 5:01 looks kinda stange... other than that, beautuiful

  • Well, that's Nurejev and Fonteyn, the ballet's dream-team^^

  • Beautiful! They're are GREAT! Thanks for the video!

  • incredible...

  • Breathtaking!

  • it's okay or rather ehhh, not great they don't captivate me...

  • then you must not know much about art or dance.

  • Agreed.

  • Absolutely stunning. There are no words that can emphasise the power of Fonteyn's stage presence. She was in her fifties when that was filmed. There will never be a comparable partnership.

  • 2 tru

    well sed
