@quarknugget My grandmother has a Costco membership. I always buy a large bag of organic carrots there are they are perhaps double the cost of two small bags of baby carrots in a standard grocery store! with all these carrots, you can eat them as well as make carrot juice with them.
Oh I don't try to replace meat either. That fake tofurkey or tofu-dogs or meat 'supplement' sounds way gross to me! I just stick to plant based whole foods!
@ReadingRhinoPress I do as well! On occasion I might buy a organic processed vegan burger such as Amy's if its a huge event, but I normally never ate them much anyway. In fact, when I wasn't vegetarian
@ReadingRhinoPress I would eat a lot more meat-substitutes. Since I decided to follow a plant-based diet I have followed primarily a plant-based diet. and find it much healthier anyway.
@Simp44 Lol, soy has been a debate for years. "Soy is good for you." then "No! Soy is the WORST things you can possibly eat!!! ANYTHING is better for you then soy!", and then "We are rediscovering things about the benifits of soy and how it REALLY does help you!". So, while soy milk and soy products may have cons, they are NOTHING compared to the antibiotic filled, weight gain growth hormoned, and RBST processed liquids of another mammels udders. :) Think about it. <3
@TheWinterWaterSong I occasionally have soy but it can stunt the development of a woman and isn't the best thing for a male to consume as it can interfere with their development as well. It is so
@TheWinterWaterSong processed and genetically modified that its advised to avoid it. However, I do have the occasional soy milk latte and/or dish of soybeans of vegan burger. Its even better if it isn't
@TheWinterWaterSong something that would be good for people such as myself who has a hormonal imbalance. Ultimately, on occasion is probably best and it is much better than having dairy.
Western doctors need to deal with the fact that your body and mind are all one system. To say otherwise is false. Kind of like saying drugs AND alcohol.
To me, being vegan is easy. Being a healthy vegan is what I struggle with. So many people associate veganism with good health, they have no idea how much vegan junk food is out there. The items that are on my permanent grocery list are, Nutritional yeast flakes, Flax seeds, Almond milk, cheerios and vital wheat gluten. I try to stay away from Bocca and Gardein, but I give in a lot. :)
I often don't have time to cook, so I buy some processed vegan foods like pasta, cereal, soup, occasionally more vegan junk food things like pizza. But like you said in your other video on being busy, I eat them with a big salad with greens from my local produce market (significantly cheaper than health food stores). Lately it's Kale with avocado, lemon, salt and pepper on top. I've noticed more energy lately. One day I'll hopefully kick the processed food habit, but at least it's a start!
@1111cam mm, sounds like a nice salad! yeah, as long as you're aware that it's not the best choice you can work towards not relying on it. but it's definitely good for transitioning when you make the effort to pair it with something fresh & healthy :)
I LOVE your vids! Faux meats COST so much. I've gotten to the point of no longer buying them and instead opt to get my taste buds more accustomed to whole food: grains and veggies without much in the way of processing as it's cheaper. I do however LOVE grilled BBQ portobello mushroom sandwiches and porto-fajitas as I call them. My son sometimes wants something with the consistency of meat, so I keep wheat gluten on hand so I can MAKE seitan for vegan chick-N fried rice, or chick-N fingers.
Just a tip. I live by the Blodtype diet, and levee out the meet part. It's good because I can’t eat some veggies and fruit because of my blood type. And there is a lot of recopies in that to. I am now looking for new recopies, and that’s how i found you'r viedos, and I really like them. My point about the blodtype diet is that there is so many good things in the books, and you can divide recopies in to blodtypes, to get healthy quicker. Just a tip. Love your videos. Thanks. :-)
@paraplegicgiraffe If you read the ingredients for the flavor packet of the oriental flavor, it has "beef extract". Be sure you read the entire label before you assume it to be vegan.
I'm in college and I've found that buying rice in bulk is very economical and lasts a long time. I also like spices because you can use them to flavor anything at all. I don't buy ramen noodles, even though the top ramen oriental is vegan. Instead, I buy noodles in bulk, the kinds that come in bunches. Sometimes I can get good deals on dried mushrooms, which are great in soups and with rice. Canned coconut milk and water make a great sauce, for a college student.
Decmember 4 will be 2 months of veg-life for me. So some things I don't buy anymore include meat, dairy (now that I found vegan cheese, lol), white flour, rice, sugar (I don't buy sugar at all and I never did buy white bread), I also don't get baby carrots, chips, candy. I try to stay away from pre packaged greens and canned anything. But since I don't believe in forcing it, I do allow myself some indugences because I recognize the process takes time and I want to be sucessful at it for life!
i just wanted to thank you so much for your video. you are also blessed with inner and outer beauty also. i wish i had a friend just like you. peace and love to you
I buy brown rice by the 20 lb bag, I like braggs amino acids, I eat a lot of oatmeal with unsweetened dried fruit and sometimes apple sauce or stevia. What I need suggestions on is how to organize my shopping so I have enough produce and it doesn't spoil. I always have a bounty around payday and then the family is living off rice and carrots by the next payday.
I'm struggling with Tahini - should i get the regular kind or raw? raw is so expensive and has added oil anyway! i've tried making my own but it does't come out that great and i heard that the regular toasted kind isn't that easy for your body to digest. which kind do you use and do you take digestive enzymes with every meal or just once a day - i've been looking at the udos one which seems vegan although it says veggie, any thoughts?
I have been a vegan for 8 months now.. I recently started buying these chips.. They are called riceworks they are "gourmet brown rice crisps" sweet chili flavor. It says on the bag that they are vegan/celiac friendly natural brown rice-whole grain -wheat & gluten free -no preservatives -no artifical flavors - no cholesterol no trans fat. Have you ever heard of these? If so what are your thoughts? Thanks(= <3 ur videos!
@MatthewLeelev thanks for watching :) I've definitely seen them, and had some at friends'. I just don't really buy anything like that - crackers, chips, etc. I use veggies with dips. They're still processed, they're still made with oil, and as I've said before I have pretty high standards... they're for sure better than a lot of chips out there, but I wouldn't call them healthy... sorry, I don't want to ruin them for you, but they are still chips so keep them in their place :)
@healthyvegan Thank you so much for the reply =) To be honest I have felt a little guilty eating them lol I think other than the rice chips I'm doing pretty good.. When I first became vegan I weighed 190 pounds now I'm down to 135. Thank you for making your videos, I always enjoy watching them! =D Do you have a Facebook fan page?
@healthyvegan Hey Girl, Thanks for your videos and educating the public. I respect your opinions. I wuld like to know what you think about salts. Is himalayan salt a superior salt or are other salts equally good. I'm really sceptical and I always wonder if miracle foods are actually a marketing scam. What are your thoughts on spirulina and chlorella? Thanks :)))
@jlmc8 Also what are your thoughts on Udo's oil blend or do you prefer just taking coconut oil? Thanks. I am trying to reduce my meat intake and I totally don't believe in mock meat or eating tons of soy.
@jlmc8 I don't think of salt as a health food - I use sea salt and think it's fine for the purpose of preparing food. Refined salt is bad on a lot of levels. But I don't TRY to eat more salt, no matter what kind it is - it's still mostly sodium no matter what form. I don't use Udo's oil - I eat ground flax, and mostly whole food sources of fat instead of oils these days. When I do use oil, I use coconut, olive or sesame - organic, cold-pressed, unrefined :) thanks for watching!
im a person who grew up in a big irish family so there was lots of meat and the only thing that works for me to replace that fix is beans like lentils and chickpeas especially when they are prepared in a soup.
I think some things are regional. Like organic baby carrots at our market are 1.69 for 1lb bag and so is 1lb of organic carrots. So with things like that it depends on if you are using it for lunch snacks or add on veggies to recipes. We like Nori too. But we only got 2 out of 3 kids that like. Bummer. We stay away from premade snacks we make our own Trail mix, granola, etc.. cause its lots cheaper than paying for the packaging.
I saw Heinz ORGANIC catsup for the first time at my local supermarket about 4 months ago... slowly, as people get more educated to the facts, the companies are coming around...
can you do a video on a list of things you suggest buying, also do you have any videos on a complete protein, i know as a veg you have to combine certain foods to get the right nutrition i just dont know what!
