as a taekwondo blackbelt recently starting to get interested in korea's other gem, i found this very useful. I believe these techniques will be useful against mma, bjj or grapplers?
@kalapoka666 Of course. My major objective is to keep a confrontation standing so these exercises are important to our training. However, I love ground fighting too.
Nothing can replace practicing with grapplers that really know their art though. To really test techniques like these I try to visit schools or practice with my students that have a wrestling background to get better.
@ummmmyeah1 hi, well in traditional taekwondo you will get good sparring techniques as you go higher in the belts, defenses against punches and stuff. But takedowns are not really in TKD, its more of a sport-fight
sweet video Josh. I love that it's conceptually based rather than just technique based. what's more these kinds of concepts are what blur the line between "martial art" and "self defense"....I like the direction you're heading. and as always, Matt and Harmoni look better and better with each video I see them in. great job.
i agree, the focus of a martial art should be on how to use it when you need it...everything else is a useful bonus. but as you said, that's just my opinion.
Thanks. I agree and it is not really written into my curriculum either. Even though I love ground fighting I think that it is better to end the fight with me standing as soon as possible. To me these drills are very important. It also is good for the person doing the throw or the takedown because they need to focus on cinching up and controlling the person as quickly as possible.
This is my favorite of all your videos. greeat camera work, editing, music.
I like that you showed the techniques in great detail in slow form, then rapid form, and finally in practial application through sparring. This is a perfect example of how a martial art is taught.
Wow, thanks. I was actually kind of worried that this video wouldn't be good enough as I was making it. Just because I'm not showing any actual techniques. As I was editing it though I liked the way it turned out. Especially the class time.
Top notch lesson Josh! Great that you showed a follow up in case your thrown to the ground. Also the drills and defense when your on the ground very good. All the best bro!

From my point of view there really shouldn't be a line. But that is just my opinion. Thanks Brad.

Good stuff Josh. This phase is relatively lightly touched on as far as classical martial arts go.
