It's a pleasure to see a game trying something so simple: turning a mechanic (falling) into a game. Into something that really shouldn't be interesting, but I literally couldn't tear my eyes away for a second.
I signed in to say that I think your project looks fantastic and I would support any effort you put into further work. I have seen some amazing wingsuit videos on the net, and while not being a particular purveyor of skydiving/basejumping/wingsuit exploits I never considered how cool it would be to play something like this.
This video makes your project look boss. Keep up the good work. Labours of love are always the best ones.
@Serialtinus would you ever consider releasing alpha builds for this game? Indie game devs like Wolfire with games like Overgrowth seem to be accumulating a massive following in fans and pre-orders by releasing weekly alphas.
@cowboysfor6 I'm thinking they might, though they likely won't go very deep simulation-wise since it will be a relatively small part of a very big game. Much like the basejumping and parachuting in San Andreas and GTA4.
@pinkmullet4 I actually don't agree. The player usually wants to be invincible or have unlimited weapons, but they don't realise that it immediately takes away the reason it's so good in the first place and they get bored far quicker. In this case pushing the limits and not really knowing how far to push. If you could practice being invincible then the proper game mode wouldn't seem anywhere near as intense.
@TheHelpfulTuts This game needs to be a pay thing. If it's free all that does is show how much we value the effort. $10 on Steam sounds about right to me
Seriously, use the Minecraft business model. Sell the alpha version of the game and just update it whenever you make major progress. you get our money and community feedback. we all win.
@Ibly31 Hah! Yes, when you approach horizontal flight your glide ratio starts approaching infinity, and goes into the negative when you briefly go up. :)
I would love to see this game in first person (Vuzix glasses or another pair of video glasses) using kinect to control (and of course a fan to simulate wind on your face). THAT would be awesome. You should consider such an easy setup for demonstration purposes. You could even bring a wooden box to lay face-down on to simulate the angle.
@odseraphim to make it even more awesome, a usb speed controlled fan (not that difficult to do) would increase or decrease the speed with data from the flyer speed. THAT would be awesome. XD
When you have a demo to test, I'll make a themed die for it, and talk a bit of it on my blog/G+ entry. Not that I have many fans, and not sure any of them would like it, but I just love your work so far.
This is so incredible. I have been following the project for a long time now, and it's really amazing to see how far you have come. Amazing work, my friend. This is going to be a great game. Cant wait to be able to contribute if there is ever an alpha or beta release. Keep up the great work!
More suggestions are to add some sort of water - make it an island or something that makes sense. You don't have to create water physics that's too complicated just make a small animation and spread it around the island. I suggest adding, if even possible, a little motion blur to hide the textures of the ground because they are not very well hidden right now. It would be cool if you make some more wild mountain terrain as well.
any way to get a trial version or demo of game. looks sick. I could play it like this and be happy. I've played almost every skydiving game thats come out and this is the best. I grew up on a dropzone and am now a skydiver myself. sick. keep up the good work.
Awesome! I suggest a few birds maybe - some life in the game besides the main character, louder music, the music not to stop when you hit the ground but to rather make it a tad louder and turn down the actual game volume. I can't really heart the music but it's important to note that the soundtrack is a VERY important aspect with regards to these types of games. Think of something inspiring with very little vocals but more instrumental.
@Zargogo I agree that music is important, however, in this particular case, given that his model is actually simulating the sounds on all surfaces, I find the windspeed sound to be more than enough to acompany the flight.
Maybe test that the game doesn't implode if running along winamp for the ones that need that extra oomph? (I'm not saying that playing with music is bad whatsoever).
thumbs up if he should release a beta or something of this game
