  • I much prefer this version to Commander Cody's, but that's because this was the first version of it that I ever heard.

  • this was an awesome song...they don't do old fashion story songs like this anymore.

  • Yeeeehaaawww!!!

  • You guys are gonna drive me to drinkin' if you stop arguing about that hot rod Lincoln!

  • 1st time I saw Em they were playing at Cal State Hayward in 72' Been hooked ever since

  • Back in the early 70's I happened to be hitch hiking in the Hill country of Texas....lost as a goose....trying to find my way back to my car after a canoe trip when a "blue hair" in a Continental picked me up. During our trip, I came to understand...her son played in a band out of Austin..She explained this to me while we were doing 80 on a 2 lane blacktop! Turns out ...this is her son!

  • Awesome. :D

    LMFAO!

  • @MsDragon254

Not trying to be mean, so don't take it that way.

If you don't like the song, how come you take the time to look it up, giving it another veiw, and put a bad comment on it? Do you like fighting with people on Youtube?

Again, not trying to be mean, or sound like an ass, I'm just wondering...

  • asleep at the wheel is proper name

  • i almost fell asleep

  • pas mal! pas mal ! mais Kenny Price était meilleur là dessus !

  • I saw these guys in concert later in their career when they were doing the Fair Circut. We had front row seats and it was probably the best concert I have ever been to, and I have been to a bunch. I love em. They really know how to put on a show.

  • good song

  • I have this song by 7 different artists. This ius my fave. However by Jim Varney & Ricky Skaggs is very good also.

  • best version was the guy who wrote it ....... Charlie Ryan

  • Good, but for me Pat Travers played the best version. Mot. = matter of taste.

  • For Western Swing, no one compares to these guys

  • Saw them at the Ventura County Fair maybe 10 years ago. I couldn't believe they were playing a side stage and not the Grandstand. They were only a few of us diggin' it at first, but when they finished there was a huge crowd. People at the grandstand left whoever was playing and came to see AATW!!! They're the tightest live band I ever saw and for 6 bucks, what a suprise and what a show.

  • the roger miller versions the best.

  • Love this song!

  • great song any "asleep at the wheel" will do They are a very good band

  • . . . great to hear Ray Benson and AATW again. We played together in Europe in 1989. What a blast ! ! !

  • This is a little bit like watching the Road Hammers do "East-Bound and Down".

  • I saw them in the early 80s in Indy at the Vogue theater. They were great, had everyone dancing the night away, including me. I've always thought their sound was better when Chris O'Connell was part of the group. Her voice matched their sound so perfectly.

  • Redneck Rap.

  • i think ive heard charlie daniels band play this one !

  • @TheHelgeland - You're thinking of

    "Uneasyrider"

I was takin' a trip out to L.A

    Toolin' along in my Chevrolet

Tokin' on a number and diggin' on the radio.

    Woohoo... been there done that!

  • why did asleep at the wheel never get the credit they deserved? great honky tonk sound!!!

  • Love it! Redneck rap!

  • Any version of "Hot Rod Lincoln" is fine by me, anytime, anywhere. It's a fine story telling song.

    Dabe, Dave Stacey, aka doowop62

  • cool ! good lord americans !

  • I certainly wish that I could find the Wheel's version of Lay down Sally; anybody got it?

  • I saw Asleep at the Wheel perform this live at the Bearsville Theater in Woodstock NY! My sis lives in Texas and says they are huge in the Lone Star State! They do a great performance of this song!!!! AND it's good to hear it revived and played the way it should be; very instrumentally creative!!!

  • haha whenever my dad works on his old cars he sings that song

  • a good remake, but nothing can touch the original.

  • Its cool how it looks like he was telling the story. Its also cool that he added the Wellllllll... thing at the end.

  • And in one recording Ray says, "Well, Wilbur.." i.e., Mr. Ed the talking horse from the early 1960s TV show. :)

  • commander cody made this song NO one else should do it

  • actually this song was written and recorded by Charlie Ryan in thelate 50's,recorded by Roger Miller in early sixties.Johnny Bond in Late sixties..and the by Commander Cody in 71

  • Can't hear Ray's Guitar lick - which makes the whole damn tune.....it actually ruins. TV sound engineers don't like Guitar players.

  • this version of the song sucks the best version is done by Johny Cash

Johny Cash is the best country singer of al time

  • Not Johnny Cash's song---I think you mean Johnny Bond.

  • Actually Johnny Cash did in fact do a covewr of this song, and it was very good! only wish I could find it other than the original 45 I have it on :P

  • Actually, Johnny Cash didn't do "Hot Rod Lincoln". You're thinking of his "One piece at a Time", a similar sounding rockabilly car song about a Cadillac. Some of these bogus lyric sites on line put Johnny Cash's name on "Hot Rod Lincoln", they are wrong.

  • No way!!!! He's ok, but not the best ever by a loooonnnnngggg shot.

  • See these guys live it really is too much fun

  • I just saw them in Ann Arbor, you're right, too much fun

  • Ray Benson ftw

  • There is an acual video for this version / band.. its driving me nuts no one has put it up..

  • i know the vid is so cool

  • GREAT!

  • Next to Commander Cody, it doesn"t get any better than this !

  • beautiful song!

  • AWESOME

  • Great. They are the best.

  • they do the best version i think

  • I luv AATW, but Commander Cody and His Lost Planet Airmen are the standard for this song.
