wow ,man this is amazing! Do you have the sheet music? Could you send it by any chance! Thanks a mill, any sheet music you have for this movie would be really great!
Scott Tobin (look up You Tube user Alkaliy2s) has a good close-up tutorial posted for "Brooks Was Here," which is essentially the same theme. My arrangement is different from his, but his is quite good and should be helpful for learning the piece.
I was literally jigging in my seat waiting for you to start playing. There's something about the way Newman does piano. Beautiful. And beautifully played.
Thank you very much! I agree with you on Newman's interesting style, which I absolutely love. It's as if anticipation is scored along with rhythm, melody, and harmony. He is also able to get a lot of mileage out of just a few notes, which speaks to his compositional talent.
I had actually considered playing the orchestra bit on the Korg and then doing the piano bit separately. I decided against it, because I'd have had to record the video while wearing headphones to listen to the string playback. Also, while the Korg has some pretty good string sounds, I was a little concerned that the result might sound too "synthetic." In principle, though, I really like the idea.
@HilbertSpace Hehe :). How do you get the amazing sound quality on your video. I plugged in my Roland FP-7 with my EMU 0404 system in the computer and im not getting the authentic roland sound, i think im getting the sound from the sound card. Would be nice since i want to send a song i played to a buddy. Maby there is an easier way ? :)
I'm glad you like the sound! First, I really like the piano sound that my keyboard (a Yamaha P90) puts out. I record into Pro Tools and throw a little compression (3:1 or 4:1 most of the time) and some reverb. That's about it, though!

It is so incredibly hard to find someone on YouTube capable of playing a piece such as this with the kind of patience and linger that the notes demand to make the emotion truly come to life. I've seen some wonderful finger work on some of my favourite songs but the performer plays the notes like they are some cheap watch-battery powered MIDI player in a Hallmark greeting card playing ever note with the same weight behind it. Yours is definitely the exception and is what I have been seeking!!
You Tube user Alkaliy2s has a very nice tutorial for "Brooks Was Here," which is essentially the same piece as "Compass & Guns." Swing by his page and have a look!
ha, i remember when this film came to the theaters and this Crisply reminds me of this EXTRORDENARY film. Thank you so much For making this Cover, I loved the Gran Torino cover and now im Falling in love with Acceptance. Ha, You deserve to make music more than anyone i know.

I wonder if it´s possible to only get the orchestra sound for the original song...so you can play along with it. What do you think ? :)
