Thanks for the killer video. I just rode my bike (Concours 14) from Louisiana to Washington state to visit some family. Planning on Vlogging on the way home. As per your recommendations, I got a camera suited for in-helmet use. Thanks for helping guys like me get started on this sort of thing. Can't way to embark on my own BWOM type adventure! (Hope you don't have BWOM copyrighted, I don't want to deal with Billmaa copyright ninjas in the night) Videos to come soon enough!
the only thing i saw about the ipod nano, is that it doesn't have a sound limiting mic. the video is excellent, and it is very non-intrusive. good if you don't want sound. i bet you could tape over the mic or something to help with the sound but i've tried it, its good.
One thing about the Go-Pro mounts (I have a standard Hero), the stupid bracket clips are made of brittle plastic. I’ve been careful and still managed to break 3 so far.
Very useful info. It is great to see how the different cams are setup. I really like these types of vids.
@ToastToGo Me too Scotty..I'm a huge camera nerd..the 919 isn't in the video, ...but there is a lil thing I thought of after recording the original footage that I think is funny...so I try to see if we can get the hornet some face time =)
@woodenchairs I have a polaroid that I velcro to my helmet...the wind helps the cut down on having to flap the photos for exposure...I'm sure that 80 percent of my viewers wont get that joke...I hope you do =P
I have the Canon 5dmkii and it has the video function which is similar to the D90. don't use it very much as you know when shooting video with these the are monster memory hogs and rendering time after editing can be very time consuming.
You just can't beat the sound quality of the V570 cameras for what they are, tho I am curious if the zi8 has the same sound quality.
@britex3186 My D90 doesn't autofocus in video mode, getting the correct exposure takes patience and using my 70-300mm lens needs the hands of a surgeon..I use it rarely..but when it works...wow...I agree the V570 has the best sound..I've used it simply as a audio record device a couple of times...haha..someone in the last thread said that the Zi8 has a external mic port as well..
@britex3186 Canon DSLR video function works really really well. I've seem some awesome music videos and such shot with those Canons and they look so great.
For the record the SD GoPro takes AAA batteries not AA. I agree it has awful audio and also both GoPro's don't do well at night. Also, thanks for the shoutout!!!! Oh and one more thing about the GoPro HD is that the lithium ion battery is rechargeable, as you said, but all you have to do is plug the cam into your comp with a usb cable to charge it...don't even have to take the battery out.
@nightrider250R Not really, I use the V570 for my simple vlogs and my Canon HD40 for my off bike stuff..but I have tons of ContourHD and GoPro footage on my computer in case I need it for whatever..
ahhhh... I don't wanna cut up my helmet =( But i hate the sound quality of the gopro's and the contours dont have external mics... what to do, what to do...
@cheesegr8er Thats why I have mine set up in my spare helmet..I wasn't going to knife the Arai...I agree about the sound of the Gopro...they sound like you're stuck inside a oil drum or something..
:) I like the fact that your intro had 2 "it's billmaa-heres" that were shot in Hawaii.
Funny you mention the angle difference between the cruiser bike and the sportbike. I am still struggling with the camera angle ever since I got the Ninja, lol.
@808yewtube I originally had the same intro bits from the first one..but after losing alot of stuff in my computer crash yesterday...I just went with what I found first =) When I got from my CBR to my 919 I have to change the camera angle...so I'm pretty conscious of it now =)

hey billy great video as usual. i have a question for you/anyone else that can help... im thinking about getting the go pro HD helmet kit. and i don't know what kinda of computer i should get to do the editing.....so ya if you could tell me whats a good computer out there that would be great....... and to anyone reading this im just getting into motorcycling and can't decide on which bike i want to get.... im choosing between a 2010 ninja 650r and a 2010 versys. which bike would you pick?
@kcloaker23 My editing windows computer I built myself...but I do alot of editing on my Imac...pretty much any modern desktop can handle editing...but you want to get as much Ram and the best video card you can afford..Laptops are hit and miss...they'll do it, but be prepared to wait a bit for your projects to render..
The standard GoPro is on sale at CycleGear for $150. Heard some bad things about the standard that made me shy away from it. Cant justify $300 for the HD one right now.
Nice that you showed the iPod. I have a friend that I'm trying to convince to motovlog and she has one. Told her it would be a great way to get into it.
Nice FX1 you got there. Shot quite a bit with one myself. Loved it.
@davidhowellca The standard is worth about 30 bucks it should be the back up to the back up to the back up...I got my HD for a bit cheaper than 300 beans, but had to wait six weeks and two backorders for it...I've had the Ipod nano for awhile...and thought about vlogging with it..just to see...at the Ozarks, I saw that 199Xray was vlogging one..and I watched his vids, wasn't that bad...I love that FX-1...I dust it off once in a while and play with it..
I'm waiting for someone to start vlogging with the Sony HDR-FX1 Duct taped to the side of there helmet,LOL.I'm using a Kodak EasyShare Z612,it has its good points and it has some bad points.Great vid Bill, thanks.
@pulse0000 I almost opened the series with something ridiculous like that....with a simple statement like "Here...question answered!" but after all the hate mail I got after that Wow comment..I wasn't in the mood...Lol..
Gday Billy BB here.Gday Billy BB here.Gday Billy BB here.Gday Billy BB here.:) :)
Before I got the Venturer HD cam, I used a Sony Cybershot T2 (SD only) It was good in the helmet as the lens was at the top, allowing the camera to be lower in the helmet, opposed to the V570/750, which are high.
@brotherblonde Hey BBBBBB, The V570 is a two lens camera...with the wide angle on top...some folks, like Spencerian, after figured how ways to mount them lower...but my helmet simply doesn't have the room..

very very nice work on the vids i got to say your editing is top notch up there. I was looking at a contourHD but 9 times out of 10 im to lazy to edit and just upload my stuff raw so i really like bullet cams and i like the contourHD just i dont like editing so i have the issue of the voice recording ive thought about doing the mod to get the contourHD to use a external mic if i did get one but who knows maybe something new will come out before i get one
@sparda1123 I love to edit..it most of the fun of vlogging for me..lol..and I too get frustrated when you buy something... and something new comes out right after
now you're just showing off!! lol thanks for the info but i was thinking about getting the vado but i don't want to mod my helmet any ideas? should i just save up for a Kodak V? also i want to do off road vlogs any ideas for the MX style helmets and cameras?
@apricotsnms516 Hmmm, I'm not sure how you would do it without moding the helmet...I would definitely go with the go pro if you're going to be off roading..it can take the abuse =)
D90 .... i bought my D80 a few months before D90 came out... can't say enough good things about them :) Sadly the 80 doesnt have the video functionality... but then again i bought it to replace an AE-1 film ... its served its job quite well. :) even if I rarely get to use it for the artistic photos I used to take several years ago.
@todkapuz I had a Canon 30D before the nikon..and was going to upgrade to the 50D..but that lil video function caught my eye..sucked a lil, because I had to change out all my lenses...but the Nikon has been a joy to own..
Heh, I'd love to see you shopping when you're "in a mood." How many of the bikes were bought "in a mood?" I really wish some of the little cams had some way to push focus throughout the field for that "cinematic" feel you talk about.
@matth1138 I bought an R1 in one of "those moods" lol My higher end cameras can fake it a bit...but you simply need that barrel of the lens to get that sweet spot depth of field.....
@darknessahead520 depends I guess, on how my internet is running and what format I use to compress my vlogs..but I would say 40 minutes for a 5 minute vlog is about what I average..
I have the older Canon powershots. Right before they allowed SDHC type memory. So it's limited to the SD cards. Sony HDR FX1 also costs more than my bike! And the Nikon...you have a flickr? Now I have the urge to buy another camera! Well I had the urge before but it was suppressed.
wish i could have gone riding today. would have been nice to go out all day on my bday. my wife says i should get a camera to record my riding. ( when my bike is running)
@darknessahead520 Thats not a bad theory, I would venture something like the CMOS can't interpret the over exposure..but I'm not an digital media engineer..so I haven't a clue..Thanks for the comment
