It was a real buzz to find this Aussie gem on YouTube. Used to have a copy off of Video Hits on VHS till it was accidentally scrubbed by a recording of Neibours by another family member lol.
I'll keep a look out for the Aussie Gems album as prev mentioned as I've been looking for this classic for a while now
Brisbane rock station FM104 played this song in 87' and then a year later absolutley hammered Pat's version. In fact FM104 still play it today. Great song. I like both of them.
no the fact is they changed some lyrics to suit her but as you can hear they left most of the lyrics the same.Just set yourself free and find out the truth on a few web searches.Indeed it is a shame that they did not give credit to Kerryn Tolhurst as they should have done.
Have you got the full version of this song and do you know where it can be down loaded. I taped it off MTV when it came out, (still got the video) showed my kids the other day and they said it was way better than Benetars version, would love a copy of it on CD, anybody????
@surfclubtony It didnt chart in Melbourne and Sydney because emi didnt press enough copies. It charted in Adelaide and Brisbane! Wouldnt mind a copy myself of your vhs.
She actually wrote the song first with her husband in 86, and EMI used it as a trade around song. It's what record companies do when they are desperately trying to promote a new band under the same record lable. Label mates will do song trading and rewrite the lyrics. Especially when it's a multinational label. This is an example of that. A lot of people think that The Rattling Sabre's wrote it because it was released first, but actually Pat & Neil wrote the original.
I loved this song when it came out and still love it now. Pat B never captured it because the vibe is in the speed of the track. Her faster version killed the emotion and groove. It just became a flat out rocker. Still the royalty cheques will be welcome I'm sure.
Taped it off the radio and played it over and over at the time. I liked Pat Benatar's version but never felt it captured the Australian spirit of the original. Pat Benatar's seems faster paced if you here them back to back.

Your wrong it was Kerryn Tolhurst (lead guitarist of the sabres), who originally wrote the song
The RATTLING SABRES recorded All Fired Up and it came out as a single on the Mighty Boy label. On a trip to Los Angeles someone from Mighty Boy was playing the song to an A&R person at Chrysalis Records when Pat Benatar's manager happened to pass by. She needed a single for her new album and after changing some lyrics to suit her female point of view it was recorded and released.
I've just posted an audio clip of this song on Youtube. Recorded from the original vinyl 45, it's nice, clean and complete

OH&S would have a heart attack at about the 1:09 mark of the clip. No way you could be on the ledge in a clip these days.
Ahhh the good old 80s, when safety would of been a piece of string and a "no worries" attitude (probably minus the string in this case Mr Price)

These guys were great. I remember seeing them around the traps in the Gong!
This song was fantastic. 'Could have heard a pin drop' was even better.
Reunion tour???

I had to buy a $300 turntable that transfers vynal to iTunes specifically for this song.
I bought the 7" Vynal the day after I saw the World Premier on Australian Mtv in August of '87.
I was shocked when Pat Benatar relesed this Australian jem.

I've been looking for this for years. What a great song. Had another great one - something like 'could have heard a pin drop'.
This song was far better than Pat Benatar's version.
