Fred is a great conservative. One of the few conservatives still around. I thought many of his supporters would back Ron Paul. As I feel Ron Paul is the last conservative standing on that stage. What do you think?
btw your song is awesome. I enjoyed watching the candidates' reactions when it was played at the begining of the debate last year.
I like Ron Paul in many ways -- I've respected him for many years -- but I don't think he would make a good President, and I disagree with him a lot on various issues related to foreign policy and monetary policy.
I would only vote for him as a protest vote, but a vote for Fred would be a more effective protest vote, since then it's clear my vote is coming from a conservative instead of a "Paulhead."

Ron Paul is not a Conservative, he's a Libertarian. Conservatives believe in a national government that is strong in terms of maintaining order, while Libertarians believe in a weak national government on all fronts.
The two fathers of American conservatism are William F Buckley and Barry Goldwater, both of whom wanted a small federal government, that left the job of maintaining order to the states.
WFB used the words "conservative" and "libertarian" interchangably, before you were even born.
Right, but that is not the meanings of the two now. No longer can conservative and liberatarian be used interchangeably; they are two different views, as I explained before. Paul even ran as a Libertarian in '88.

well then why are there actually two different parties you can sign up for. SO then they couldn't possibly be the same by the government's deffinition. Maybe Libertarian is more conservative but that doesn't change the facts. Even more confusing though is in California there are two Types of Independents. There is the Independent party and someone who does not endorse any party.
Ron Paul is the only true conservative (limited government, fiscal responsibility, staying out of nation-building) among them. Also, saying the dems have only one cantidate shows a lot of bias and / or ignorance.
Um. First, no, Ron Paul is not the only "true conservative." You, and he, don't get to decide that.
Second, you have no sense of humor whatsoever if you took the line about one Dem candidate seriously. It's a flim he did for the Nuclear Threat Initiative called Last Best Chance. I have it on DVD. You used to be able to get it for free just by signing up on their web site. Fred played the President. Go to lastbestchance dot org.
This song is pretty weak, but I admit it's better with the slide show than the guy at the guitar. Without the slideshow, we focus too much on how weak the lyrics are. Yes, they rhyme, but they're very superficial. Where's the wit?
Wow, finally a liberal that is willing to admit what they REALLY want out of the elections. Decriminalization of Marijuana.
It must piss you off that the reports from Iraq are more and more positive each day.
People that fought against us yesterday have realized the real problem in Iraq is Al-Qaeda. Now those same people work alongside of us protecting there homes and neighborhoods.
I don't know what news your watching, maybe fox, but the reports are not getting more positive each day. In fact everyday there is a new report of another American solder/marine/sailor/airman dead.
I don't think 3800+ Americans and 655,000+ innocent civilians is a positive thing. BTW Decriminalization of Marijuana is a good thing, But certainly not my first reason for supporting Dennis Kucinich. My first reason is because I know he will end the war and
bring all my fellow troops home. In fact he has a really well thought out 12 point plan. Do some research. But if you'll notice I said "fellow troops" I'm in the military and I've served in Iraq. We do not need to be there and our presence is creating more and more backlash. Dennis is really smart and articulate. Take the time to really listen to what he has to say.
judarama: I do not believe you know that "verterns (sic) and soldiers have donated to Ron Paul than any other candidate." You would have to have complete donor lists and cross-reference all the names with military service records. And since four GOP other candidates have a lot more donations than Ron Paul, I doubt it is true.
I still doubt you are correct! In 2004 (during the war in case you didnt know) 83% of the Active duty military voted for Bush over Kerry! (Kerry was going to either pull out or fight it "Smarter")!
The American total is correct, but the 655,000 I highly doubt! Could be the total that have died since the war started, well you know some people get old and die, others get cancer and die...then Al Qaeda has killed at least as many as we have, but I bet it is even more than us!
Kucinich has as much chance of winning and/or impeaching the president as I do of winning the Miss America Contest!
Actually, no, you're entirely wrong. In the last 2 months, our average casualties per day have dropped significantly. Right now the casualty level is at its lowest consecutive-months level since March 2004 (about 1.3).
I am not saying, of course, that the casualty level is good. Only that it is *clearly better and more positive.* Them's the facts.
"One candidate" was a joke. Our dramatically decreased casualty rate is not.
That really doesn't mean things are improving in Iraq. And even though 1.3 average American deaths per day is lower than before, any deaths because of an unjust war isn't something I consider positive.
Shrug. You said "the reports are not getting more positive each day." In fact, they are getting more positive. Maybe not day by day, but month by month, for the last few months.
It doesn't mean things won't get worse later, or that this relative calm will last. But it's hard for me to see how 1.3 deaths per day isn't more positive than 3.2 deaths per month.
We still have lost more soldiers this year since the beginning of this conflict. We were wrong to invade Iraq, thats the fact. I would not want my sons fighting there and have discouraged them from enlisting because of our involvement. Ron Paul is the only chance we have on saving face to the world for our indiscretion.
The Iraq war was not justified by the US Constitution!! You can do the research. Plus, the UN never sanctioned our invasion, Colin Powell tried his best but they never sanctioned the invasion because there was no WMD. So you are wrong on both counts.
Most of the Republican candidates are nothing more than 'Lillynilly Liberals' that can't give a simple 'YESorNO answer to a question.I would rather see them leave the Republican Party. If I wanted a liberal I'd vote Democrat.
the zoom in on clinton for dem candidate with the lyrics "the dems have only one candidate" implies that clinton is the only "real" candidate for dem, but that's untrue as other dem candidates are quite capable).
the more accurate statement would be dems have 3 candidates.
There are no true modern conservative politicans since Teddy R. They say they are then create huge debts. That's the same as a tax on our future. No one invests in our future. Not in infrastruture, foriegn relations, education, technology, health or energy. If they did the debt would shrink and the peace increase.
Teddy R. was a "true" conservative ... ? Why do you think he split from the Republicans to form the Progressive Party? Their platform included federal welfare and workman's comp laws, farm subsidies, required health insurance, new inheritance and income taxes ... Teddy R. was no conservative by my measure.
Teddy R. formed the bullmoose party and was a catalist for forming the twentieth century middle class we think of today. He strenghened the military, created the national parks worked dilangantly for world peace, and fought for the ordanary citizen. Aside from the Bullmoose party, I think all conservatives are for peace, prosperity and a strong beautiful America.
I am not saying Teddy R. was a bad guy or did all bad things. But he favored many social "advancements" that violated our Constitutional rights, and were by no means "conservative."
He did have a lot of views I agree with. But if you stick me in 1912 America, I'm a Taft man, and I am angry at Teddy for splitting the GOP ticket and thereby allowing Wilson to win.
Taft was considered more progressive than Teddy. Progressive is not always the same as liberal. The word Conservative has changed as well. Most neo-conservatives would have voted democratic 1912. America is losing it's place in the world today. We once had the best healthcare, transportation systems, best economy and great respect in the world. We must act boldly to restore our place or fall behind the rest of the developed world. Perhaps progressive conservatism is what we need.
The word "progressive" -- yes, at the time too -- meant more government control over society to encourage progress. This is what conservatives -- including Taft -- oppose.
Interesting you have licoln's picture up there since he was progressive rather than the conservatives the party has evolved into and fielding for the presidential nomination.
No, Lincoln was not progressive, by even contemporary standards of the time. He was actually *against* abolishing slavery in the near term. He was for preservation of the Union above all else, even if it meant continuing slavery.
Lincoln didn't like slavery, that much is evident from the LD debates, but Lincoln was a pragmatist. He wasn't against abolishing slavery, he wasn't against spreading it.
"Not very progressive"
More progressive than those who would argue 'states rights' as a guise to deny the right of a minority.
He was against abolishing slavery *in the near term.* What the LD debates made clear is that he was for what he called the "eventual abolition" of slavery.
And there is nothing "progressive" about wanting to uphold the rights of minorities. Those are entirely orthogonal. I am very conservative, and no progressive cares more about upholding the rights of minorities than I do. Indeed, I care more about it than most of them.
There is something progressive about recognizing that minorities have rights in the first place. The southerners didn't think black people had rights, that the bible gave them good moral standing, that thomas jefferson got it wrong when he said all men are equal.
Yes, some people didn't believe it. And to me, they were un-American. I don't use that word often, because I strongly believe in a plurality of opinions. Few opinions can be "un-American." But that's the point: disbelieving in the right of others to express their opinions, to participate freely, destroys that.
Saying I am progressive because I believe those things is like me calling you a Republican just because you believe in representative government.
No, it's not. Everything is relative. In the United States of America, being in favor of minority rights has NEVER been "progressive," because minority rights has been built into the Constitution from Day One. Read Federalist 10. It's the main POINT of having a republic: protection of minority rights.
I am no progressive. Neither was Lincoln, and neither was John Adams.
You say being in favor of minority rights has never been progressive. But prior to the civil war the black minority had no rights under law and the constitution. If it's not progressive to free black people, give them rights under constitution, I don't know what is, 'cause if those aren't acts "favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas" then you must be defining progressive.
Um. Blacks aren't the only minorities. The Constitution was set up specifically, from Day One, to protect minorities. That is the purpose of the republican system.
Um. Blacks aren't the only minorities. The Constitution was set up specifically, from Day One, to protect minorities. That is the purpose of the republican system.
(If it sounds like I am repeating myself, it's only because you ignored what I said the last time.)
I didn't ignore anything. I highlighted an instance that the constitution didn't protect a minorty group. Want another example, women's sufferage. Progressive people had to champion these new ideas in order to make the republic more perfect.
Yes, it was called a compromise. But the POINT was still protection of minorities. Some very non-progressive folks like John Adams -- who no one has ever called a progressive, that I've seen -- thought it was a terrible hypocrisy. It's got nothing to do with being progressive. You're trying to claim an idea for your own ideological heritage that simply doesn't belong to you.
WTF? How is championing for the right of minorities 'compromise'? Compromise is a tool you may use in that championing, but it isn't the championing itself. And could you stop calling John Adams a non-progressive where did you get that idea? Or, please formally define what you think progressivism is?
"How can you not get what I obviously meant there?"
Because what you said was confused and ambiguous...
I'm talking about how the constitution didn't protect the freedoms of minorities, and you reply by stating the denial of those freedoms from the beginning was a compromise to protect said minorities?
If there is something I don't get it's because you can't communicate it well.
I really like this video, Pudgenet. Thank you for producing it, and I'm wondering if you have any plans create a new one for 2012?
Also, as a Ron Paul supporter, I'd like to thank you for respecting Dr. Paul and not trying to smear him, despite your disagreements with him.

Thanks. It's not meant to be satire. It's intended to be merely slightly humorous. See my other songs "Osama Bin Laden, You Ruined My Birthday," "George Bush is Hitler," and the latest, "You Forgot Ron Paul" if you want more satire. :-)

Now those same people work alongside of us protecting there homes and neighborhoods.
juhsepi 4 years ago
I don't know what news your watching, maybe fox, but the reports are not getting more positive each day. In fact everyday there is a new report of another American solder/marine/sailor/airman dead.
DonJohnMWBD 4 years ago 2

More verterns and soldiers have donated to Ron Paul than any other candidate!
Ron Paul voted against the Iraq conflict and would bring our soldiers home from around the world.
judarama 4 years ago
judarama: I do not believe you know that "verterns (sic) and soldiers have donated to Ron Paul than any other candidate." You would have to have complete donor lists and cross-reference all the names with military service records. And since four GOP other candidates have a lot more donations than Ron Paul, I doubt it is true.
Please do not make things up.
pudgenet 4 years ago
Your right, it wasn't veterens, he had more donations from those in the military today.
Look it up, he had more donations from military personel and family than any other candidate including John McCain. Does that tell you anything?
judarama 4 years ago
Was it in Canadian currency?
I still doubt you are correct! In 2004 (during the war in case you didnt know) 83% of the Active duty military voted for Bush over Kerry! (Kerry was going to either pull out or fight it "Smarter")!
RecceMan90 4 years ago
The American total is correct, but the 655,000 I highly doubt! Could be the total that have died since the war started, well you know some people get old and die, others get cancer and die...then Al Qaeda has killed at least as many as we have, but I bet it is even more than us!
Kucinich has as much chance of winning and/or impeaching the president as I do of winning the Miss America Contest!
RecceMan90 4 years ago
Actually, no, you're entirely wrong. In the last 2 months, our average casualties per day have dropped significantly. Right now the casualty level is at its lowest consecutive-months level since March 2004 (about 1.3).
I am not saying, of course, that the casualty level is good. Only that it is *clearly better and more positive.* Them's the facts.
"One candidate" was a joke. Our dramatically decreased casualty rate is not.
pudgenet 4 years ago
That really doesn't mean things are improving in Iraq. And even though 1.3 average American deaths per day is lower than before, any deaths because of an unjust war isn't something I consider positive.
DonJohnMWBD 4 years ago 2
Shrug. You said "the reports are not getting more positive each day." In fact, they are getting more positive. Maybe not day by day, but month by month, for the last few months.
It doesn't mean things won't get worse later, or that this relative calm will last. But it's hard for me to see how 1.3 deaths per day isn't more positive than 3.2 deaths per month.
pudgenet 4 years ago
i believe you have a typo here. 3.2 deaths per day.

The Iraq war was justified! Do the Research, check the UN resolutions and what they stated!
Ron Paul has as much of a chance as Kucinich!
RecceMan90 4 years ago 2
The Iraq war was not justified by the US Constitution!! You can do the research. Plus, the UN never sanctioned our invasion, Colin Powell tried his best but they never sanctioned the invasion because there was no WMD. So you are wrong on both counts.

There are no true modern conservative politicans since Teddy R. They say they are then create huge debts. That's the same as a tax on our future. No one invests in our future. Not in infrastruture, foriegn relations, education, technology, health or energy. If they did the debt would shrink and the peace increase.
tombstonetom 4 years ago
Teddy R. was a "true" conservative ... ? Why do you think he split from the Republicans to form the Progressive Party? Their platform included federal welfare and workman's comp laws, farm subsidies, required health insurance, new inheritance and income taxes ... Teddy R. was no conservative by my measure.
pudgenet 4 years ago
Teddy R. formed the bullmoose party and was a catalist for forming the twentieth century middle class we think of today. He strenghened the military, created the national parks worked dilangantly for world peace, and fought for the ordanary citizen. Aside from the Bullmoose party, I think all conservatives are for peace, prosperity and a strong beautiful America.
tombstonetom 4 years ago
I am not saying Teddy R. was a bad guy or did all bad things. But he favored many social "advancements" that violated our Constitutional rights, and were by no means "conservative."
He did have a lot of views I agree with. But if you stick me in 1912 America, I'm a Taft man, and I am angry at Teddy for splitting the GOP ticket and thereby allowing Wilson to win.
pudgenet 4 years ago
Taft was considered more progressive than Teddy. Progressive is not always the same as liberal. The word Conservative has changed as well. Most neo-conservatives would have voted democratic 1912. America is losing it's place in the world today. We once had the best healthcare, transportation systems, best economy and great respect in the world. We must act boldly to restore our place or fall behind the rest of the developed world. Perhaps progressive conservatism is what we need.
tombstonetom 4 years ago
No, Taft was not more "progressive" than Teddy.
The word "progressive" -- yes, at the time too -- meant more government control over society to encourage progress. This is what conservatives -- including Taft -- oppose.
pudgenet 4 years ago
Interesting you have licoln's picture up there since he was progressive rather than the conservatives the party has evolved into and fielding for the presidential nomination.
synonys 4 years ago
No, Lincoln was not progressive, by even contemporary standards of the time. He was actually *against* abolishing slavery in the near term. He was for preservation of the Union above all else, even if it meant continuing slavery.
Not very progressive.
Maybe you are thinking of Lincoln Chafee!
pudgenet 4 years ago
Lincoln didn't like slavery, that much is evident from the LD debates, but Lincoln was a pragmatist. He wasn't against abolishing slavery, he wasn't against spreading it.
"Not very progressive"
More progressive than those who would argue 'states rights' as a guise to deny the right of a minority.
synonys 4 years ago
*He wasn't against abolishing slavery, he |was| against spreading it.
synonys 4 years ago
He was against abolishing slavery *in the near term.* What the LD debates made clear is that he was for what he called the "eventual abolition" of slavery.
And there is nothing "progressive" about wanting to uphold the rights of minorities. Those are entirely orthogonal. I am very conservative, and no progressive cares more about upholding the rights of minorities than I do. Indeed, I care more about it than most of them.
pudgenet 4 years ago
There is something progressive about recognizing that minorities have rights in the first place. The southerners didn't think black people had rights, that the bible gave them good moral standing, that thomas jefferson got it wrong when he said all men are equal.
synonys 4 years ago
Yes, some people didn't believe it. And to me, they were un-American. I don't use that word often, because I strongly believe in a plurality of opinions. Few opinions can be "un-American." But that's the point: disbelieving in the right of others to express their opinions, to participate freely, destroys that.
Saying I am progressive because I believe those things is like me calling you a Republican just because you believe in representative government.
pudgenet 4 years ago
But it's very true nevertheless...
synonys 4 years ago
No, it's not. Everything is relative. In the United States of America, being in favor of minority rights has NEVER been "progressive," because minority rights has been built into the Constitution from Day One. Read Federalist 10. It's the main POINT of having a republic: protection of minority rights.
I am no progressive. Neither was Lincoln, and neither was John Adams.
pudgenet 4 years ago
I believe you have a different definition of progressive that renders the word meaningless.
synonys 4 years ago
Um. It was YOUR definition!
pudgenet 4 years ago
You say being in favor of minority rights has never been progressive. But prior to the civil war the black minority had no rights under law and the constitution. If it's not progressive to free black people, give them rights under constitution, I don't know what is, 'cause if those aren't acts "favoring progress toward better conditions or new policies, ideas" then you must be defining progressive.
synonys 4 years ago
Um. Blacks aren't the only minorities. The Constitution was set up specifically, from Day One, to protect minorities. That is the purpose of the republican system.
pudgenet 4 years ago
Show me were the constitution protected the rights of slaves before 1865? I'm sure Dred Scott felt protected...
synonys 4 years ago
Um. Blacks aren't the only minorities. The Constitution was set up specifically, from Day One, to protect minorities. That is the purpose of the republican system.
(If it sounds like I am repeating myself, it's only because you ignored what I said the last time.)
pudgenet 4 years ago
I didn't ignore anything. I highlighted an instance that the constitution didn't protect a minorty group. Want another example, women's sufferage. Progressive people had to champion these new ideas in order to make the republic more perfect.
synonys 4 years ago
Yes, it was called a compromise. But the POINT was still protection of minorities. Some very non-progressive folks like John Adams -- who no one has ever called a progressive, that I've seen -- thought it was a terrible hypocrisy. It's got nothing to do with being progressive. You're trying to claim an idea for your own ideological heritage that simply doesn't belong to you.
pudgenet 4 years ago
WTF? How is championing for the right of minorities 'compromise'? Compromise is a tool you may use in that championing, but it isn't the championing itself. And could you stop calling John Adams a non-progressive where did you get that idea? Or, please formally define what you think progressivism is?
synonys 4 years ago
Sigh.
The compromise is what ALLOWED SLAVERY INTO THE CONSTITUTION.
How can you not get what I obviously meant there?
I'm done with you. You really don't get it.
At all.
pudgenet 4 years ago
"How can you not get what I obviously meant there?"
Because what you said was confused and ambiguous...
I'm talking about how the constitution didn't protect the freedoms of minorities, and you reply by stating the denial of those freedoms from the beginning was a compromise to protect said minorities?
If there is something I don't get it's because you can't communicate it well.
At all.
