As far as I'm concerned Italy was never a free country, nor a democracy. The police here are just waiting to beat people up on the service of whoever has power, in this case Pinault, although it wasn't even the opening eve of Punta della Dogana. One guy was shouting against the use of precarious (limited time contractors) workers for this kind of event & interns for the Biennale, but this was a law voted a few years ago (from the left party in power) which in fact zeroed all rights for workers.
