@Patriote17 NEVER FROGET FROG WHO WON THE WAR THE FRENCH DID WHAT THEY ALWAYS DO RUN AND SURRENDER IT IS A SHAME THAT A GREAT MAN LIKE MONTCALM HAD SUCH UNWORTHY MEN TO SUPPORT HIM
@555burbank 100,000 english leave Québec in 1970, they run and they cried because they were afraid of the FLQ. They were coward, they were terrorized. I say good riddance, those people were unworthy.
@TalonMercenary the Battle of the plains of Abraham is not a really important part of the war, it lasted barely 15 minutes. Six month later the same army fought on the same field, during the battle of Sainte-Foy, it lasted 2 hours. The French won, but France never send reinforcement. Brief, the French, the Natives and the English fought during 7 years, they fought many battle and in the end the English won. By claiming they only shot 2 volleys you diminish their hard work during this war.
@Patriote17 you live in quebec?!?!?! the French were not the first to call Canada by that name.... thats like me saying to you that you should go to france drink some whine and be a coward.... and if u wanna go back all the way Aborignal people were first.. not french
Whatever the political ramifications, whatever country one believes in, we should not forget the soldiers and sailors who fought and died in these wars.
They think they are obliged to do everything they want, like build forts in British territory in the Ohio Valley. Thanks for beating them. God knows where American society would be had it been under French rule.
Can someone please explain to me what kind of warfare is this?? they just wait to get shot in the face....at least move....and if youre worried about holding the line then duck!
cause it's 18th century warfare. General's agreed to form lines to maintain discipline in times where communication is extremely limited. besides, it's not as dramatic as portrayed here, flintlocks have horrible accuracy, if everyone were to disperse, battles would last weeks
as a history geek, this battle is simply embrassing =.= they could only fire those muskeets at a distance of 40 yards?seriously?even mongolian bow and arrow can fire up to 500 meters, they might as well be using crossbows if the guns at that time were that inefficent.did humans grow dumber in warfare as time goes on?those men just march forward and hope your enemy dies before you do?thats all the strategy they had?cant believe these couple rounds of volleys made canada an english speaking country
Indeed, bows had a longer range than muskets and you can shoot more arrows per minute than bullets per minute. But there is another big difference between bows and and muskets : bow shooting takes years to master, muskets, much less time, so you can more easily train your toops at shooting muskets.
Despite their shortcomings muskets were more efficient, that is why hunters hunted with guns instead of bows.
@Patriote17 Think whatever you like. The reality is you are a conquered people. and you will be conquered again if you ever dare to take your self delusion anywhere but you mind.
Despite whatever you think or say, we are the political, demographic, cultural, sociologic, economic majority on our territory. How many conquered nation can claim the same thing.
You won a battle two and a half centuries ago, yet you still have to remind us that you won. Poor little boy, you won the battle and they don't let you rule.
I wonder if the americans have to remind the apaches who won the war...
@MichelPatrice Don't have to remind you at all, you know it. I realize now that I really misunderstood what Patriote 17 was trying to say thus my hasty response. He was trying to speck of the Quebec mind set of a nation within Canada. That i do agree with and such should be cheered. As for the Americans and the Apaches, it wouldn't surprise me as we have to continually remind them that they did not win in 1812.
I don't understand what you mean by : "He was trying to speck of the Quebec mind set of a nation within Canada. That i do agree with and such should be cheered."
The English conquered Quebec , but they will never conquer Quebecois mind.
Now, after the natives, French, and English, the people of the World are conquering Quebec, and they will tell Quebecois there is nothing more to be conquered. We are not enemies any more; We are one as Canadian/Canadien.
The topnotchness of this documentary is astounding. Very riveting, gritty, and well done. If the History Channel or any similar station did this they'd make a bunch of fat men in farby Pirates of the Carribean costumes run back and forth and keep repeating it, intersplicing it with phoney historians giving their worthless and unneeded opinions.
Montcalm's stupidity was to blame for the defeat at Quebec. He should have called his reinforcements from the countryside and waited because Wolfe had no where to run and Montcalm had him trapped. The fool lost Canada to the British.
@Apophis150 Actually Montcalm had about a days food left, and had to organise his men quickly as Wolfe had attacked the city from an area guarded by only 100 men.
@Patriote17 So do you consider yourself a citizen of Canada or a French citizen ? If you are a Canadian you are part of the British Commonwealth of Nations. If a French citizen, what are you doing in a foreign country ? I just want to understand.
Assuming that is Wolfe's body at 4:34, I am quite impressed with the detail included in giving Wolfe a bloody wrist (he was struck in the right wrist, which was not the wound that killed him).

The first nations would separate all of canada if they could. And what do you mean by "Who is there to trade with that are predominantly francophone"? like people have to trade with others of the same spoken language? Are you stupid?
Damn.. If so, alzheimer is seriously taking effect. U should remember that ur a son of Lafayette ! and should be gratefull to France for helping ur country exist and free from the british empire.
Also, if u want to go to Quebec, u better speak french mate...
aye wave my private parts at your aunties really i have to say this i'm just a heinz 57 american but god you british are bastards.cruel..at least the french can cook
@menacinghat it seems that way at the moment, but people are beginning to change. There is alot of hatred for these immigrants in the UK (and probably else where). They also only make up 10% of the population
@menacinghat So your telling me a total of 20 Million people have immigrated into Britain? Thats ridiculous people would have no food and resort to eating their pets.
ok,since the 80s. also people are leaving at the same time. go to east london,go to bradford,go to birmingham. same things happening to canada i noticed. you have such a large country with a small population and the majority of people looking for a better life are from the developing world. it's pretty obvious canada, france and the uk will eventually be asian countries. nothing wrong with that of course, but i worry about the islamic extreimsts.
I'll give an example of why Canadians are frustrated with Quebec
Lets say Canada is the husband in the family, and Quebec is the wife
Canada wants quebec to love him and be with him, but Quebec always maintains the threat of leaving Canada if he does not do what she wishes, and that threat builds distrust between them.
Canada and Quebec are much the same, but Quebec always points out her differences and wont listen to Canada on his opinion.
@Patriote17 confused, why do you hate the other Canadians , i mean i hate people from new jersey, and every country song ever made but i don't want my own country.
Goodbye France. This is the reason that North America is dominated by English speakers. Quebecors somehow think thy are owed something by English speaking North America. But your people lost the war for the continent, you are lucky the British Empire allowed you to keep your culture at all. English speakers owe you nothing, they defeated you. Know your role and shut the fuck up.
The Normans assimilated into french culture and their viking background simply forged a new kind of french culture but given they spoke french and brought french culture and imposed it upon the native english spaeking culture, they were FRENCH. Similar logic to Quebecers wanting immigrants to learn french first and become part of their french culture no matter their cultural background.
Err the Normans were not really French...The Normans were the people who gave their name to Normandy, a region in northern France. They were descended from Viking conquerors of the territory and the native population of mostly Frankish and Gallo-Roman stock.
In the qubec act, a BIG sign of tolerance for the late 18 century that then lost the brits the 13 colonies ;p But Quebec or lower canada signed on officially with the rest at Confederation and support for the bloc has been going down and once duceppe steps down I doubt they will find as popular a leader right away. If Duceppe was not a seperatist I would vote for him right away! love your vids and even if its SLIGHTLY scewed love the pride in history Quebec has, hope to do a phd there
@DraconianDreams the British invasion and Acadiens deportation was obviously not a sign of tolerance. By the way Québec didn't signed the Canadian constitution. Bloc is going down but for some reason the PQ is going up. In Québec PQ obtained approximately 40% of the vote, Québec solidaire obtain 10% of the vote. Québec solidaire also support independence. 50% of the people still support independence. Bloc Québécois and Parti Québécois do not really represent all the independentist movement.
Something I cannot stand about seperatist thought, no specifically uours by the way, is how things can get distorted. Like your vids are awesome I love watching them but on the plains of ab. I was never taught or it was never focused on how the french WON a battle on the same field against the same enemy like what a few months later and the french only lost due to whose reinforcements got there first. It was an honorable defeat and the french language and culture were official preserved....
I am descended from english speaking quebecers myself but was raised in the prairies. Out of curiosity how do you feel about french culture being forced on the rest of english speaking Canada or how if you want to advance in politics you MUST become bilingual even if you have never been to qubec? Many non quebecers see seperatists as whiny because there have been a ton of cultural conscions and few if any to other non anglophone cultures like my own Japanese roots.
I wish the Canadian anglophones would have more humility and respect for french culture and I wish the Qubecers would have some historical perspective. They LOST NA and the seven years war against an enemy as strong as themselves, so have some honour and acknowledge that.
BUT they should also remeber the french WON 1066 and forever changed English culture and did so in a very brutal way. In comparison British/Canadian relations to french canadians has been MUCH kinder.
@DraconianDreams many English-Canadian respect our people. As for the seven years war we are just proud of the resistance of our ancestors, we are also proud of our alliance with the natives. If we want independence today it's not because of the war of the past. We are still a distinct nation with a distinct language and culture. We never signed the constitution, we are not even officialy part of Canada. Staying with Canada means being assimilated into english culture, we don't want that...
@franka64 The Northmen or "Normens" spoke french and created a distinct bad ass french culture. As in really brutal, fiercely independent dukes and knights, but they became very french. So my point still stands. My ancestors came from japan but I speak english and therefore am an Anglophone. Sorry to rattle on I am bored and love history lol
@DraconianDreams The normans were not French but french speaking people of Viking origin. but yes, many french were fighting on the normans side. but you are wrong to call the normans french, cus they were not. and english speaking canada DOES show more respect than is needed to the french. i think fracophones complain to much. quebec has only french roadsigns, while the rest of english speaking canada has both. stop fukin whining. u get enough respect.
@Salvus967 Calm down there buds, if we seem to agree except on who the Normens were (if your born and raised in a french speaking culture your primarily french everything else is frosting on a cake.......now I'm hungry lol), no need to use swears left and right. Besides tis a time of joy right now as Quebec has just voted to obliterate the Bloc to just 4 seats in favour of the NDP! My opinion of Quebec soared to new heights after that ;p
@DraconianDreams.Normans definately held on 2 alot of thier Viking roots and to say they were French, plain & simple,is a loaded statement. The French still didn't really have a national identity at this point.Much of the population of 'Normandy' was of Frankish blood. The Normans spoke a different sort of French which certainly was influenced by thier original scandinavian tongues. But i'm glad to see the diminishing of the Bloc because they were/are useless for Canada. Good for Quebec.
It always amuses me how nasty both sides can be....I am proud of my anglophone heritage and english speaking ancestors in quebec but I also respect quebec cultuture as quebec values help keep us from becoming too american. Plus there is the Citidel of Quebec the only walled city in north america centuries old, that is awesome! Britain allowed french language, laws and religion to be preserved which is something France would have never done.
Again... British gave the goodies out of fear the french-canadiens would join americans to kick them out of the continent...it was a political move...not out of the kindness of their heart.
Is it not weird how the French put all the soldiers in coffins and buried them in centenary and put general Montcalm in a box and and buried him in a cannon ball hole from the British. Sounds nice?
The battle where the French ran like cowards as usual. Then get upset years later if they want to reenact the battle. The English won their should be only one language in Canada and that's English.
@MrBowhunter82 I agree that english should be the only language in Canada. But I also believe french should be the only language in Québec. In fact, french is the only official language of Québec according to law 101. Québec should become an independent country. People like you are obviously a threat for our language and our culture.
@patgarrett5755 Shut up fag, we're all equal in this world. If you want to make fun of other peoples languages, just think... What if you were in there place, trying to defend your country's honor and language. Wouldn't you feel bad? Almost ALL country's speak different languages.
If the French army had remained behind Quebec's walls , the British would never had been able to take the city, then french reinforcements would have helped to raise the siège.
@jed371 That makes no sense. Why would joining in the American revolution have anything to do with French rule. Quebec just didn't want to be under American rule. They definitely wanted to remain french.
1700s warfare was so retarded, whoever heard of gentlemens warfare or thought it could be effective. In the Battle of Fontenoy the British general asked the French to fire first like a true "gentleman". Cant think what his frontline troops would have thought of that
No, the Quebeccers refused to join because they were convinced by the priests and offered severals gifts to make them happy and reluctant to rebel. The british governors refused to apply the initial measures proposed that were the anhilation of catholicism and the removal of french as the spoken language because they realize the population would rebel outright. It wasn't a matter of happiness but rather the feeling of having been abandonned by an exhausted France. Beside, rebellion was repressed

@divinefart you are ignorant if you think the 7 years war was only 15 minutes. The British only remember the 15 minutes of the plains of Abraham because they have lose almost all other battle during the 7 years of the war.
@Patriote17 They didn't lose at Louisbourg and they didn't lose at Montreal and they sure didn't lose at Quebec. Say goodnight Canada, you are now British
@Patriote17 Quiberon Bay, Louisbourg (1758), Minden, Lagos Bay, Fort Niagara, Fort Ticonderoga, Guadeloupe, Bengal. To say the British lost 'almost every other battle' is a rather short-sighted and partisan view. It was reasonably even until 1759. The 'Year of Victories' pretty much speaks for itself. The British were as friendly with Native Americans as the French, it wasn't out of some high-minded humanitarian ideal..it was because they knew the land better than us Europeans.
@BeLiieF Is that why the British conquered the bigger empire?? Is that why the English language is more useful than French?? Nothing against the French, as they were gallant fighters, but to say that the French ruled over the Brits in war is a bit of a lie.
@akropiss well, the rich asked for the govenors i just mantionned to be sent. but i know what you are referring too. the whole rebellion thing is very complicated and can hardly be described as a reaction to only one event.
@papajack222 France and New-France are different places. (Not trying to offend you in any way). France is in Europe. New-France , also known as Acadia, was located on the borders of Québec and into New-Brunswik. :)
@BeLiieF hummm, New-France actually went all the way from Quebec to louisianna and Acadia. what i was trying to say is that New-France was a colony at the time so it didn't own anything but you can still say that the plains of abraham was New-Franc property.
It's very odd that modern Quebec was actually born after this battle. An Irish-Canadian, I don't really understand the historical processes that brought us to the present day, but I do know that je parle français avec fierté, and my kids will too.
The English-French marriage that is Canada will always be an awkward one, with lots of quarrels. But we have too much pur history to be ever truly estranged.
Wolf was lucky the French came out of Quebec to face him on the plains... he was only able to deploy like 4,500 troops because the St.Lawrence was frozen to shit. Besides, the French were doomed from the start (fatal flaw thesis) with England's royal policy established by William Pitt to fund the British colonies like crazy and with the British Naval blockades the French were Kaput
Thousands of dead dismembered and disfigured soldiers in ridiculous battles for a lousy wage that you could barely enjoy IF you survived, maybe a bit of glory
" France was given the choice of retrieving either New France or its Caribbean island colonies of Guadeloupe and Martinique, and chose the latter to retain these lucrative sources of sugar,[27] writing off New France as an unproductive, costly territory.[28]"
@smoochym: Now I understand why Quebecois people feel abandoned by mother France, French Crown preferred to hold the sugar business and forgot French-Canadians and their hard work to establish a colony at a frozen empty land and their fierce resistance against the British. " Je me souviens" means "I remember" (what happened) but you (France) forgot.
@1963Luisito The truth is France was purging itself of all its thugs, convicts, murderers etc. They wanted all the bad people out and hope they would die off somewhere..what is now Quebec. That would have happened but the Iroquois came to the rescue of Jacques Cartier and his men who were dying from scurvy, they lacked Vitamin C and were not use to the winter back then. The French took over eventually and started Nouvelle France.
That's the truth from people who have a political and racial agenda. That's not the historical truth. You should read more texts from both sides instead of aknowledging one side of the medal. You lack historical perspective.
@1963Luisito Afterwards in France, King Louis XIV decided more soldiers be sent to New France to deal with the Iroquois. He also had girls mostly poor, whores and prostitutes rounded up from Paris and other towns in France shipped to New France for the men. Louis wanted to clean up France's image by getting rid of its trash, New France was the dumping ground. Even in its infancy Kebec was a shithole and will still be that way because sadly 90% of New France's desendents are mentally incompetent.
Whores and prostitutes were a minor of fractions of les filles du roi. Most of them were orphans whose fathers had died in wars and mothers unable to tace care of them as well as orphans whose both parents had died. Most of them were taken in charge at the king's expense. Of course some of these girls had to hit the streets out of necessity but it was a minority. The statement about the majority of them being whores is propaganda.
Some might argue that, by deposing the corrupt rulers of New France, the British did the average Francophone in Canada a favour. Goods sent by the French crown to relieve suffering in Canada before and during the war were largely stolen and sold by such men as Bigot and Vaudreuil. There's not much good to say about the French Canadian government of the 18th century.
@bayruun yeah but Quebecers will argue that the British murder our people, bombed our city, deported the Acadians and send smallpox to our natives allies to exterminate them. They commited a genocide, they were corrupted. What you say in your comment means absolutly nothing to us, if you are Canadian then deffend the Canadiens not the British imperialist...
@Patriote17 The actions of the British weren't justified. Of course, I wouldn't try to justify the numerous ambushes and slaughters committed by both French and natives previous to this. North American warfare was brutal, with all forces involved committing atrocities. Pointing fingers at the British alone ignores the real situation entirely. Also, the French were quite Imperialist as well -- it was a war of empires, so much so that Canada and its people were traded for sugar islands!
@Patriote17 The British weren't the only imperialists. The French tried to build an empire as well, just the British were better at it.
I'd also like to point out that the Canadiens never wanted to be part of Canada anyway. The Condeferation Debates in the Province of Canada of 1865 (Waite) is filled with French Canadians who never wanted anything to do with Canada, despite the French losing Canada (or, what will become Canada) long ago. History is written by the victors of war.
@bayruun Not to mention save them from American assimilation that was sure to come 20 years later with their revolution. Could you see the Americans letting the French keep what they were allowed to after the Conquest?? .. not a chance
@SideOfLife84 language it's not something you can stole, you cannot change the mind of people. Beside you just have predjudice against American, during the revolution French were ally with American, after the revolution American were weaken by the war. They had no reason to threat the people of Québec and insult their ally by banning the French language or taking possession of Québec. French would have claim Québec and it would have become independent during the French revolution...
@Patriote17 Ahh.. not sure if you know ur history or not, but The Quebec Act was one of the "Intollerable Acts" cited as a justification for starting war with Britain. They were pissed off that the French were being able to keep their language, religion, and culture after their conquest.. You can't seriously tell me that they would have done the same.
@SideOfLife84 in the end, if you know history, you would know that the French were ally with the American during the revolution and that they play a big part during the Siege of Yorktown. If the American were anti-french before the revolution, they were not after. The statue of Liberty was given to the USA by the French...
@Patriote17 I am so sick and tired of you pathetic and whinning Quebecois people who bith and moan about British and Anglo-Canadian oppression of you pathetic people. You know what, how about you take yourself and your people back to France where the Britrish should have expelled your ancestors right after the the French and Indian War. Quebec is not yours but belongs to Anglo Canadians. It is time to forcibly ban the French language and impose the English language on you oafs.
@RoyalistCavalier Congratulations on sustaining a national Canadian myth :) Ever considered studying Canadian history? Maybe then you'll be able to make an intelligent comment, rather than your pathetic post that only contributes to further ignorance. The people of Quebec are a proud and unique people that are an integral part of this nations history and culture. They and their culture should be embraced and celebrated within Canada rather than shunned. I recommend you read National Myths.
@RoyalistCavalier that's why we dont want to learn anglish and continue to speak french and split your country one of these day , we want you become sick enouph to die before us . vive le Québec libre . nous vaincrons
@RoyalistCavalier Cher Orangiste, la profondeur de votre pensée est abyssale...Quoiqu'il vous en déplaise, le Québec appartient à ses habitants, les Québécois.
@definnitelymaybe we can argue that Québec was given to the French by the Algonquin and Montagnais so it help the trading system and help protect their territory from their Iroquois enemies, it was not stolen. Both French empire and British empire can be blame from a Quebecer perspective. British for having invaded us, deported us and send smallpox to our natives allies. French because they didn't care about us, they abandoned us, traded us, they sought us as unloyal savage half breed...
By leave I mean divide Quebec up. France was just as Imperialist as England, Germany, Portugal, Spain, the Netherlands or other countries at that time. France has never even treated it's own country men well. Ask anyone that speacks a dialect belonging to the Langue D'Oc group. Better yet, ask the Celtic Bretons how well they have faired with the wonderful French goverment.
What is all of this holier than thou Quebec attitude? I have heard more often than not a Quebecer putting down Acadians because of their dialect. Speratists want to leave. Fine, as a Celtic Canadian I have no issue with that. As a Canadian I would have an issue with Quebec if they did not allow the Eastern township to leave, or any first nations to leave if they chose to.
the french lost this battle because they gave up the high ground..their original positions had a 15 metre elevation from where the british were standing, they marched down the hill and could not continue to form lines..
if they had stayed it would have been impossible for the british to sweep through the french line while traveling up hill, the french would have crushed them so fast with artillery and volleys, but ofcourse (like many european commanders) montcalm wanted to steal the glory
@henerymag you are wrong, the Church was always on English side protecting is own interest and they even excommunicated the people who resisted the British, they are traitors. Maybe you hate them, but they were working with the English, against the people Québec....
@Patriote17 But that way of thinking didn't carry on in the following centuries, did it ? In any case I believe both cultures contributed to making this country what it is today. Both French and English died in the trench's and on the beach's of Europe, and now in Afghanistan. You did a good job in putting these video's together, the study of history is great, only if we can learn from it and perhaps not make the same mistakes again. Unfortunately we mostly don't.
Both countries were basically bankrupt by this time. The french king had little resources to send troops to " defend a land of ice and snow". The British let the Canadians keep their language and culture, something not done with other defeated colonies. They did not want to fight a war of attrition. That would not have happened if America had invaded and won. Regardless of French resentment even to today, they did very well under British rule. Witness the Quebec of today to verify this.
@henerymag the British invaded us, deported our Acadians brothers, bombed our city for month, killed almost half our population, exterminated our natives allies with smallpox, but they let us keep our language and religion. Thank you British!

He was trying to speck of the Quebec mind set of a nation within Canada. That i do agree with and such should be cheered. As for the Americans and the Apaches, it wouldn't surprise me as we have to continually remind them that they did not win in 1812.

Apophis150 3 months ago
@Apophis150 Actually Montcalm had about a days food left, and had to organise his men quickly as Wolfe had attacked the city from an area guarded by only 100 men.
If he had waited he would have lost either way.

This is just an example, but u get the idea

Goodbye France. This is the reason that North America is dominated by English speakers. Quebecors somehow think thy are owed something by English speaking North America. But your people lost the war for the continent, you are lucky the British Empire allowed you to keep your culture at all. English speakers owe you nothing, they defeated you. Know your role and shut the fuck up.
Salvus967 8 months ago
The Normans assimilated into french culture and their viking background simply forged a new kind of french culture but given they spoke french and brought french culture and imposed it upon the native english spaeking culture, they were FRENCH. Similar logic to Quebecers wanting immigrants to learn french first and become part of their french culture no matter their cultural background.
DraconianDreams 8 months ago
Err the Normans were not really French...The Normans were the people who gave their name to Normandy, a region in northern France. They were descended from Viking conquerors of the territory and the native population of mostly Frankish and Gallo-Roman stock.

In the qubec act, a BIG sign of tolerance for the late 18 century that then lost the brits the 13 colonies ;p But Quebec or lower canada signed on officially with the rest at Confederation and support for the bloc has been going down and once duceppe steps down I doubt they will find as popular a leader right away. If Duceppe was not a seperatist I would vote for him right away! love your vids and even if its SLIGHTLY scewed love the pride in history Quebec has, hope to do a phd there
DraconianDreams 9 months ago
@DraconianDreams the British invasion and Acadiens deportation was obviously not a sign of tolerance. By the way Québec didn't signed the Canadian constitution. Bloc is going down but for some reason the PQ is going up. In Québec PQ obtained approximately 40% of the vote, Québec solidaire obtain 10% of the vote. Québec solidaire also support independence. 50% of the people still support independence. Bloc Québécois and Parti Québécois do not really represent all the independentist movement.
Patriote17 9 months ago
Something I cannot stand about seperatist thought, no specifically uours by the way, is how things can get distorted. Like your vids are awesome I love watching them but on the plains of ab. I was never taught or it was never focused on how the french WON a battle on the same field against the same enemy like what a few months later and the french only lost due to whose reinforcements got there first. It was an honorable defeat and the french language and culture were official preserved....
DraconianDreams 9 months ago
I am descended from english speaking quebecers myself but was raised in the prairies. Out of curiosity how do you feel about french culture being forced on the rest of english speaking Canada or how if you want to advance in politics you MUST become bilingual even if you have never been to qubec? Many non quebecers see seperatists as whiny because there have been a ton of cultural conscions and few if any to other non anglophone cultures like my own Japanese roots.
DraconianDreams 9 months ago
I wish the Canadian anglophones would have more humility and respect for french culture and I wish the Qubecers would have some historical perspective. They LOST NA and the seven years war against an enemy as strong as themselves, so have some honour and acknowledge that.
BUT they should also remeber the french WON 1066 and forever changed English culture and did so in a very brutal way. In comparison British/Canadian relations to french canadians has been MUCH kinder.
DraconianDreams 9 months ago
@DraconianDreams many English-Canadian respect our people. As for the seven years war we are just proud of the resistance of our ancestors, we are also proud of our alliance with the natives. If we want independence today it's not because of the war of the past. We are still a distinct nation with a distinct language and culture. We never signed the constitution, we are not even officialy part of Canada. Staying with Canada means being assimilated into english culture, we don't want that...
Patriote17 9 months ago
@DraconianDreams Shame they weren't French though. They were Norse Viking descendants.
franka64 8 months ago
@franka64 The Northmen or "Normens" spoke french and created a distinct bad ass french culture. As in really brutal, fiercely independent dukes and knights, but they became very french. So my point still stands. My ancestors came from japan but I speak english and therefore am an Anglophone. Sorry to rattle on I am bored and love history lol
DraconianDreams 8 months ago
@DraconianDreams The normans were not French but french speaking people of Viking origin. but yes, many french were fighting on the normans side. but you are wrong to call the normans french, cus they were not. and english speaking canada DOES show more respect than is needed to the french. i think fracophones complain to much. quebec has only french roadsigns, while the rest of english speaking canada has both. stop fukin whining. u get enough respect.
Salvus967 8 months ago
@Salvus967 Calm down there buds, if we seem to agree except on who the Normens were (if your born and raised in a french speaking culture your primarily french everything else is frosting on a cake.......now I'm hungry lol), no need to use swears left and right. Besides tis a time of joy right now as Quebec has just voted to obliterate the Bloc to just 4 seats in favour of the NDP! My opinion of Quebec soared to new heights after that ;p
DraconianDreams 8 months ago
@DraconianDreams.Normans definately held on 2 alot of thier Viking roots and to say they were French, plain & simple,is a loaded statement. The French still didn't really have a national identity at this point.Much of the population of 'Normandy' was of Frankish blood. The Normans spoke a different sort of French which certainly was influenced by thier original scandinavian tongues. But i'm glad to see the diminishing of the Bloc because they were/are useless for Canada. Good for Quebec.
Salvus967 8 months ago
@DraconianDreams Technically the normans were not french.

To say the British lost 'almost every other battle' is a rather short-sighted and partisan view. It was reasonably even until 1759. The 'Year of Victories' pretty much speaks for itself. The British were as friendly with Native Americans as the French, it wasn't out of some high-minded humanitarian ideal..it was because they knew the land better than us Europeans.

flownet07 10 months ago
@1963Luisito The truth is France was purging itself of all its thugs, convicts, murderers etc. They wanted all the bad people out and hope they would die off somewhere..what is now Quebec. That would have happened but the Iroquois came to the rescue of Jacques Cartier and his men who were dying from scurvy, they lacked Vitamin C and were not use to the winter back then. The French took over eventually and started Nouvelle France.
xzxlevitationxzx 10 months ago
@xzxlevitationxzx
That's the truth from people who have a political and racial agenda. That's not the historical truth. You should read more texts from both sides instead of aknowledging one side of the medal. You lack historical perspective.
Robineux99 5 months ago
@1963Luisito Afterwards in France, King Louis XIV decided more soldiers be sent to New France to deal with the Iroquois. He also had girls mostly poor, whores and prostitutes rounded up from Paris and other towns in France shipped to New France for the men. Louis wanted to clean up France's image by getting rid of its trash, New France was the dumping ground. Even in its infancy Kebec was a shithole and will still be that way because sadly 90% of New France's desendents are mentally incompetent.
xzxlevitationxzx 10 months ago
@xzxlevitationxzx

There's not much good to say about the French Canadian government of the 18th century.
bayruun 1 year ago
@bayruun yeah but Quebecers will argue that the British murder our people, bombed our city, deported the Acadians and send smallpox to our natives allies to exterminate them. They commited a genocide, they were corrupted. What you say in your comment means absolutly nothing to us, if you are Canadian then deffend the Canadiens not the British imperialist...
Patriote17 1 year ago
@Patriote17 The actions of the British weren't justified. Of course, I wouldn't try to justify the numerous ambushes and slaughters committed by both French and natives previous to this. North American warfare was brutal, with all forces involved committing atrocities. Pointing fingers at the British alone ignores the real situation entirely. Also, the French were quite Imperialist as well -- it was a war of empires, so much so that Canada and its people were traded for sugar islands!
bayruun 1 year ago
@Patriote17 The British weren't the only imperialists. The French tried to build an empire as well, just the British were better at it.
I'd also like to point out that the Canadiens never wanted to be part of Canada anyway. The Condeferation Debates in the Province of Canada of 1865 (Waite) is filled with French Canadians who never wanted anything to do with Canada, despite the French losing Canada (or, what will become Canada) long ago. History is written by the victors of war.

I recommend you read National Myths.

i dont know why english and french argue over this and i will give 3 points why
1. it belonged to the natives and none of us
2.thats war and empire snatch and grab sorry harsh truth
3.both france and britian cant be blamed for we are both guilty on the impreal front
definnitelymaybe 1 year ago

Patriote17 1 year ago
