  • don can't keep up lol

  • Imagine what that shit would have sounded like WITHOUT the mute!!!!

  • 0 dislikes. Nuff said.

  • OMG - OMG - I can't believe what I'm hearing and seeing - indescribable genius. Just too much.

  • didnt he get like punched in the mouth for some reason and stopped playing for a while? (face melting vid btw)

  • @peytonjmusic Freddie talks about it his playing hiatus in an interview. Search for When Your Chops Are Shot in google. It's an article by Fred Shuster. Hubbard injured his lip because he played too much and then tried to challenge Jon Faddis, of all people, to a high note duel. Then later his top lip "popped" as he calls it.

  • hmm dont think youve heard much miles. He did have that sort of virtuosity. especially in his early years. he was just one of those players that held back alot. which i like.

  • @enorman71 do you have some examples of recordings where miles shows off his skills? i'd actually love to listen to that, i'm so used to his sound on "kind of blue"

  • @93mr0 oleo from relaxin'. He spends a good amount of time restrained, which is great, but he also shows that he's capable of shredding with alot of control (he only really shows it for a few secs though)...He generally plays with great forethought and develops a solo.

  • He sounds like miles here and not just because hes using a mute,

  • @enorman71 miles did not have this sort of virtuosity though

  • Tempo is smokin'

  • damn

  • Amo la música del sr Hubbard y lamento profundamente saber que nunca podré ver su arte trompetístico en vivo.

  • Does anyone know where the lick at 4:25 originated? I recognized it, then had to search through my itunes to figure out what it was, and it was at the end of the clifford brown recording of cherokee, but i don't know if thats where it comes from...

  • when I heard that lick, the ending of cherokee was the first thing that came to my head. Can't think of anything else other than that personally... I hear a LOT of clifford licks in freddie's playing too.

  • I believe that's the ending riff that Dizzy & Bird used at the end of their version.

  • Sir Hubbard.

  • Do we need to hit the shed or do we need to hit the shed.... enough said!

  • There was nothing wrong with his chops!

  • I think he was referring to those of us who play jazz.

  • woooo!!

  • Another incredible performance !!......thanks for posting. Freddie we will miss your inspirational voice.....R.I.P. Thanks for passing through and giving the gift of music!!!

  • As far as I'm concerned, the three trumpet players that really matter are Woody, Freddie, and Fats Navarro. This is a great example...thanks for posting!

  • Clifford Brown, Dizzy, Miles Davis? Woody, Freddie, and Fat Girl are great but don't forget the greats!

  • Freddie...

    R.I.P. you beautiful musician.

  • Freddie. Baddest ever!

  • Simply perfect!!!

  • Mr. Freddie Hubbard your techinal facilty first blew away then your range, then your warmth. When I heard of your passing, I thought of your rendition of Here's that rainy day. I will miss you greatly.

  • RIP Freddie.

  • Holy!!!!Fuckin!!! Shit!!! Freddie is amazing!
