As you already know, I love the weather here in the Midwest! I think my hubby would move in a heartbeat to the warmer climate but I'm not sure I can. I can't stand 'hot hot" weather. We had to visit Florida in June and July and I thought I was dying, it seemed like no had their AC running and the swelling. My body just doesn't enjoy it. Okay, we had snow and hubby noted I was still in short sleeves and not wearing a coat. lol
I'm should note I'm originally from Lafayette, Louisiana and while living in Chicago i ran into more than one person i grew up with or went to college with even in TX. Chicago now for me is like where everyone goes when they are tired of The South or so it seems.
Omg! I moved here from Chicago a year ago. I lived there for 3 years and i made some great friends but i was massively depressed and in a cold coma from the horrible weather. I wasn't living and thank God I got out of there! Lived on the northside off the Damen brown line and use to go to Schaumburg for Meier runs and the mall. One of the craziest things was a girl i went to elementary school with i met on the platform one day! turned out she lived a block down from me!
its always good to go back to visit a place you ONCE called home but now your heart and home is somewhere else and that is ok...Well that is how I feel now days...
You were just slowly being reintroduced to winter. You really want winter then come back in January. Winter was especially brutal up here in Minnesota last year.
What you said about reconnecting struck a chord with me... Still, you made a good choice getting away from Winter weather and I hope to do that some day :)
@LisaJMoore You would probably be you, just with a different house, car, and set of friends ...maybe? I can relate because I've gone over the "what if I continued to grow up in CA?" thing in my head a few times.
Perhaps we're lucky that we'll never have to know. :-)
My aunt used to live in Hoffman Estates. Do you realize that if we both still lived in Illinois, we might actually be friends there? If my parents hadn't moved to FL, I would have grown up in Franklin Park. I would totally die in that winter weather...heheh I've been here in FL since I was 10! Hey, was that light orange?...hehe Great Tagore quote. Hugs!
I think that's a little like when we travel abroad and fall in love with another country. At the time it's nice to fantasize about living there because of all the exciting moments we experience but it's always a lot different to actually exist there 24/7. I go through that with Sweden everytime I go there.
Really great vid! Just a couple of years ago, I took a drive with my sister to some towns I lived in as a kid. It was strange how much things changed and yet remained the same. Everything definitely seemed "smaller" that I remembered.
@NaturalTwentyFilms Smaller and somehow less spread apart. What a difference it makes being able to drive yourself to and from - the world was gargantuan when I was a 12 year old.
Good vlog and, once again, brilliant editing on the end bit. Chicago is a great city, as is my native Boston, and NYC, etc. - But not dealing with massive amounts of snow on a daily basis pulls up California FTW.
I am a South Floridian living in NC and I go back to visit and sometiems get homesick, but I am pretty sure I will never move back , it seems that I am just a ghost there .
@Clemburke1111 "just a ghost there" - Wow, what a perfect way to put it. Yes, I can relate in a big way. Some of my old stomping grounds inspire that feeling, but only in cases where everyone has fallen off the map.
I don't know much if anything about California, but I do know that you are missed here on Youtube. It kind of .. used to be ... your home away from home. ;-)
@bugsinrug ((((Chris!)))) Yeah, this was far more than just an occasionally stopping point for me a while back. Thank goodness for other corners of the web, though. You're someone I don't want to lose touch with.
What I hear you saying is that you feel as though you are home. The place is home. I get it. Every time I visit Montreal, I feel content. It is my "roots" home.
@popparoc46 "roots" home, yep! Doesn't even matter if you know you'll most likely never live there again either. That's something that just never really changes.
@andymooseman Thanks, Andy. Gotta confess, tho - it felt a little weird doing this. Only because there was enough of that 'auto pilot' instinct left for me to just grab the camera and start talking, but also this sense of 'wait... do I really still know how to do this??'
You should have told me you were going to Lake Michigan. I would have run over and stood on the Michigan side and we could have filmed ourselves waving at one another and then we could have watched the videos and said, "See there, that's Curt/Marc waving at me," and then we could have...oh nevermind, I sense your interest in ths comment rapidly waning.
When I lived on the North Side I shopped in Schaumburg but got lost in Hoffman Estates one time. The streets all looked alike to me. The definition of suburbs. I moved out of Chicago a few months before the big blizzard last year. Can't take the winters. Just can't. Didn't care for the lifestyle of living in a city that dense.
@sneakypreacher Family, work, and a lust for not shoveling snow. Couldn't handle cold weather back in the day and I learned very quickly that it's not going to fly as I get older either.
I do love the area, though. So I'll just have to plan more visits.
I kinda know that feeling, in a very basic way though. I last visited my hometown 5 years ago and everytime it feels like a time travel already. The thing is, this place sucks - so nothing to really miss there.

I'm glad you reconnected with those important people. Not always without some anxiety, but you now know you will never regret never having done it.
