@squaferno - seconded. While the synth sax feels too fake at times, the bass and deeper notes are haunting and are so for the *right reasons*. It's one of my favorite compositions of the theme as well. Had Dominic Glynn (the composer) had better equipment, the sax would have been perfect. I can tell where he was going for with the theme and it works. A real sax would have done better than the synth sax, though...
In addition to the zooming smile of DOOM that I mentioned before, what about the theme tune? The opening note is really discordant, even when compared to the Davison titles' loud opening synth squeal.
I think with colin bakers face appearance they should have just left it with all the colours coming off his face before it becomes the recogniseable photograph - would look much more funky
I believe the entire opening title is quite scary, but that part sure wins the prize. His face changes from a "I know it all" smile to a creepy "I'm gonna get you" smile! LOL
Just got the boxset of this, its great. Can any1 tell me wich eps it is when the time lords imprison the doctor in the centre of earth? Dont remember much of it and would like to see it again. Also does any1 have the spec ed davros boxset? im going to get it tomorrow if i can or ill have to order from uk like the rest of my dr collection. What eps are included and how much spec features?
Well I'm a fan of both new and old and I'm not a big fan of the tune. I hated it as a kid when Dr Who came back with that din. It kind of creeped me out. I suppose that's what they were going for. And as it turned out it was one of darkest periods of the show in terms of tone (not fashion!).
I liked Colin Baker as the Doctor as he made him unpredictable, if not a little unstable. It was too bad he was dealt with some really bad stories and execs who didn't like him.
The Trial of a Timelord was a brilliant idea that unfortunately fell apart after 'Mindwarp'. I hope R.T.D. will find a way to revive The Valeyard when he gets to the 12th Doctor.
I love the title sequance music for the Trial of a Timelold , it's annoying really that it was only ever used in that one story which was Colins last as the poor sod got the sake from the show shortly after . I like Colins Doctor thou [ " Wither you like it or not ! " ] and it is great that this music is used on such Colin Baker storys like the Juggernaughts from Big Finish audios .
Yeah i allready know that thanks . I wasint talking about that offcourse , i was saying that the theme music from the Trial of a Timelord is also used for such Big Finish audio dramas as the Juggernaughts .
I like Colin Baker he's the first Docter I remember apart from Mcoy and I use to like Colin's costume because it was dead colourful but knowing what I do now that costume was a stupid idea because it makes the Doctor stand out and the Doctor ment to remain in the background looking cool and collective and only standing out when he has too
Agreed - the only downside is that this version of the theme tune is a bit quiet compared to the Howell version. But other than that, how can ANYONE not like it?
the bit i like the most about this is the sound at the beggining

A lot of people don't like this title music but it's one of my favourites. A lot better than the Smith title music.

this is one of my favourite versions of the
theme as i think it has an excellent sound to it not as good as the original but very good all the same.

Probably the best remake of the original.
Thanks! :)

Replying to upchuck69, it will NOT be Russell T Davies who resurrecting The Valeyard it will be Steven Moffat
AndrewO54 3 years ago
I know that, I posted that comment before the Steve Moffat announcement.

. . . just add "&fmt=18" to the end of the video address.
If there is &feature=related" at the end of the link, delete that.

how did they make it shimmer like that without a computer?
zeplinofled 4 years ago
What do you mean?
JonnyE 4 years ago
I mean the blue lights
zeplinofled 4 years ago
Computer editing/effects
JonnyE 4 years ago
I meant how did they make it shimmer like that in 1986, when that would not of had a computer. Hence the words, without a computer
zeplinofled 4 years ago
they would have computers, 1986 isn't that long ago.
JonnyE 4 years ago
i mean that wouldn"t the sort of computer that can be used to create good visual effects, such as in this instance.
zeplinofled 4 years ago
Well the effects they used were quite primitive by today's standards, what else could they have used besides computers?
JonnyE 4 years ago
As far as I'm aware it was cell animation, but I'm no expert. They definitely had computers in 1986 and before. They just weren't so great.
cultoftv 4 years ago
tbh i dont think computers can do the best job. i still think to this day the most impressive was Tom Bakers. Its a master piece, u cant knock it
