They're not. They're referees making sure the rules are followed and no one is cheating plus thanks to their recording we get to watch the event live on tv. Like bikes they are agile unlike cars.
what training would ye recommend for an u12 cyclist in the national championships, ireland? im currently doing 4 training sesions a week, two of which are intervals, 1 is a long endurance cycle at the weekend (usually about 60km) and the last one was a recovery cycle but i now will probably do hill repeats instead. any advice would be great. thanks

@ashatbracks The commentators probably didn't have a clear look at the motorcycle when it crashed, because they comment 'live', which means that they can't watch a replay and make comments afterwards.
The motorcyclist who fucked up and the one who falled is not the same. Just look at the nuber of people sitting on top of it, and the color of the motorcycle.
also a charismatic rider, the only problem with him finishing the TDF he always quit once the elevation goes up unlike other Sprinters they always finish the tour.. not sure if he only got paid just to ride the first week of the TDF though...

The referee should know better than to go between a rider and the team car. The rider is there for a reason, not just to chat. Cipo probably needed to get his hair fixed or a refill of 30-year-old scotch in his bottle.
I can see Cipo being really pissed off, the ref created a potentially dangerous situation. Cipo was wrong to throw the bottle (although I would have done the same thing, maybe even whacked the idiot on the side of his helmet) and the ref was wrong to ride how he did.

Well clearly the motorist isn't aware of his surroundings. He has a head-set on so if he's using it, he clearing isn't aware. And when you are riding around 40km/h, it fucking ticks you off especially when the guy didn't even care to honk or signal to warn he's going to over take him.
Look at it this way, the motorist isn't a cyclist. He doesn't know, nor can predict what 'line' a cyclist will take. Resulting into that crash later in the video.

@OzKid given newtons 3rd law, action-reaction, he should have sprinted in front of the moto and then thrown it backwards as to push him forward. But throwing it in front of him probably negated the weight loss.
Cipollini was in a brakeaway or he was chasing the brakeaway. The motorcycling in red is a referee on a motorcycle and he beebed so that Cipollini should make way and he didn't like that at all. I saw this live on eurosport.
@opmdevil And this why everyone hates refs: they try to become a factor in the race. Look at FIFA refs. Each one is fucking incompetent, blind, stupid, or in someones pocket. In the NFL refs have to justify their actions. NHL the refs are governed by technology. I get pretty sick of watching le tour with all the motorbikes zipping in an out of the riders. It's just too dangerous... bikers don't have rear view mirrors and with the head wind as strong as it is at 35mph you can't hear shit.
well i suppose being in the compitition the cyclists must be under a lot of stress and need to fully focus so a motorbike squeezing through beeping the horn dosent help LOL :)

@OzKid given newtons 3rd law, action-reaction, he should have sprinted in front of the moto and then thrown it backwards as to push him forward. But throwing it in front of him probably negated the weight loss.

Cipollini was in a brakeaway or he was chasing the brakeaway. The motorcycling in red is a referee on a motorcycle and he beebed so that Cipollini should make way and he didn't like that at all. I saw this live on eurosport.

@opmdevil And this why everyone hates refs: they try to become a factor in the race. Look at FIFA refs. Each one is fucking incompetent, blind, stupid, or in someones pocket. In the NFL refs have to justify their actions. NHL the refs are governed by technology. If it was a breakaway, the ref should have backed off and let it play out, instead of trying to effect the outcome. Dumb-ass should get his nuts cut off so he doesn't infect the species. Always watch the refs: they can't be trusted.

I get pretty sick of watching le tour with all the motorbikes zipping in an out of the riders. It's just too dangerous... bikers don't have rear view mirrors and with the head wind as strong as it is at 35mph you can't hear shit.

If you look really close when they replay Cipo going past the guy on the ground, it looks like the guy in the white is carrying a camera, so probably a photographer that caused the one guy on the motorbike to crash... guy deserved that
