@portraitphenomenon He is actually. Look up "War Child: Heroes, vol. 1" - Dylan chose Beck as his fav contemporary musician to cover one of his songs.
This is one of the sweetest songs I've ever heard; and it illustrates the depth and range of Beck's talent... When I play live, I usually play this, then segue into Jack-ass. You can tell if there's a Beck fan in the crowd, because they usually cheeze out on it... BTW- I totally agree with you sherman 024...
All those great lyrics in a charming waltz! I like what he said about old musical styles being like finding a wooden rocking chair after sitting in plastic chairs your whole life. Truly a rennaisense man.
Great song by one of the only great artists of our time. He holds on to classic musicianship in a society of one-hit sellout crap. Beck is a true genius and a living legend of rock & roll and we are blessed to have him.
He is so talented... a lyrical genius. He can make the oddest, dumbest thing, into a cool song. And other songs have meaning, he pours his heart, soul, and mind into his music. GO BECK!!!!
This is a hidden gem. I especially like the last verse where he sings "Crumbs fall out of the sky when you wander by, the dust clouds blow, nobody's home." Underrated song on an underrated album.
this is my favourite too. but only with beck as the artista and nigel as the producer like it is on "mutations". what cash and his people whould have done with it i don't wanna know.
soooooooooooo good....

beautiful number. reminds of camping and campfires and the 1800s.
I'm hoping for another song like this one soon.
and great lyrics..."lay my bags upon the funeral fire and sing it again"
"misers wind their mind like clocks that grind their gears on and on"

Thank you! This is one of my fovorite songs! I believe he wrote that song for Johnny Cash, and in return, Cash redid Rowboat by Beck.
abbeyrose 5 years ago
He wrote this song for Cash to perform, but he didn't think it was good enough, so then he wrote Rowboat.
DiamondBollox 5 years ago
That is to say, Beck didn't think it was good enough. Im sure Cash would have loved this song.
