Somebody please help me! My girlfriend and I rescued a stinkpot from the road yesterday and want to keep it. But I'm stressing hardcore about if that's a good idea or not. Can someone please help me?
nice video, i completely agree, although I'm going to put a musk turtle in a 55 gallon, I was wondering if they need any special lighting, theres lots of natural sunlight that gets into the room. do musk turtles do well solitary?
Totally bad owner. Shouldnt keep these types of turtles in pairs (unless you can split them) so 1st thing wrong... 2 shouldnt use stones they eat them and die. 2nd wrong .... 3rd wrong is saying u can keep them in 10g goldfish bowls, i eat out of bigger bowls dude. bad bad.
@Aryjones123 dude you do not eat out of 10g tanks, its not a goldfish bowl. your talking like you keep them in a 5 million gallon crystal clear pool/pond with 1 turtle. stfu
@Timespartan111 They didnt like that? Did you personally ask them? And do you know also why they found stones in dead turtles? Cause chances are it killed them probably. Never found them in living turtles, weird huh! Bad owener is bad.
@Aryjones123 duude theres plenty of the stones in nature and in ponds, and you dont see a bunch of random dead turtles if your turtle is eating stones then your not feeding it good enough, i can undertand if your tank is a bunch of small stones cause thats not found much in nature, but a lot of people like me use sand, large, small and medium stones in there aquarium
1. That turtle needs a much larger enclosure, the 1 inch-10 gallon rule is a precaution but would provide the turtle standard-spacious living condition.
2. Combining BOTH of those turtle (Especially the painted as it is known to get almost as big as RES) into such a small enclosure is just torture and inhumane. 3. Perhaps the reason your Musk died, although it is unfortunate, is because of the mistreatment you have given him. Do you think you would thrive in a closet?
@Amatersaru1 i think it would depend on if it is an adult or not? As they tend to be poor swimmers when young, i would make sure you have alot of items or different platforms so they can get up to the surface easily. Or Tall plants, as they use these to help climb to the surface
yeah your right about the gravel i have the smallest gravel in the shop they do pick it up but spit it right out they dont like it at all so its not a problem. ill be putting a vid up when i get a new memory card for my camera..
hey do you think that african clawed frog would be able to live with a musk turtle as they grow to about the same size and eat anything with the word 'worm' in it, but they try to eat anything that fits into their mouths. and they arnt that aggressive, also do the turtle need clorine removed from the water
Is it possable for a stinkpot turtle to be breed with a red eared slider? I am asking becaues i recently received a turtle and i do not know what species he is. He has the face, legs, shell pattern, and habit of a stinkpot. But he has a shell pattern, red bloch on his neck as a red eared slider. Also he has the bottom shell pattern of both. So if any body knows if this is true or if they know what species it is please tell me.
@birdboy93 Males are more so territorial than females. 2 males=75g is bare minimum. If you don't have the space then don't bother trying to get a turtle. I have maps, painteds, diamond back terrapins, softshells and a snapper. All on their own tanks. I also have a pair of musks. I have enough space for them.
@sheeplikesganja All turtles are generally territorial to an extent. But musk turtles and mud turtles are more so territorial. TheyNEED extra space. Follow that rule 1inch of shell per 10gallons. 1inched turtle=10g 2inches=20g 3inches=30g etc. Then you give them 20gallons extra for room. Don't believe me? Go to a turtle forum. Like t urtletimes
This was helpful. I would like a handling video, too; focused on calming strategies for new not-tamed turtles. I took in a musk turtle last week wandering my parking lot. I tried to release her in the nearby estuary, but he swims in circles and floats. I don't think she can dive. At all. It's like her shell floats and she can't overpower it. Same thing in the tank. Any idea why this would happen? Thanks!!! Meg
@megcbyers Take it to a vet thats either a respitory problem or parasites overcomming it. Btw musk turtles do not come from estuaries. Estuaries=salt. Musk turtles should be in a freshwater habitat.
hey, do you think a 23gallon tank will last 2 common musk dwarf turtles a lifetime or woul they grow out of it? and how would i set up a uvb without a lid on the tank? please reply, all advice will be very helpful.
ok thanks, youre set up is relly good. im going to try and get some live plants so i may need a ubv for them ive heard. what do you do at night? do i turn everythig off except the submersable water heater?
there is no such thing as a common musk dwarf turtle, only common musk turtle . if you dont cover the tank dust will come in the tank and make it look dirty .
Yep. I dup everythong out. Then wipe it down, and stick a hose through the window and fill it up. Then I wait for it to warm up a lil. If you can't use a hose, take some ice cream pails and fill it with that.
Species wise, yes. Personality wise: maybe. Every turtle is different. You can, but theres a small risk they might not get along. So yeah. You can try it. If they're babies, the most likely are guaranteed to get along.
i have male turtle but if i put a female turtle in the same tank as the male one, would that female get eggs later when it grows? and do turtle lay there eggs in water or on soft land?
nice vid lolz i just fed my 2 of my musks that just got around adult size like 2 nightcrawlers, mealworms and they loved them. My huge female is like you said in a 10 gallon fine she know will eat a pinky every five weeks.
hey i just got a common musk 3 days ago and he hasn't eaten anything...he always spits it out...i have tried baby krill, shrimp, and reptomin pellets... how can i make him eat?? i try by picking him up and when he opens his mouth i put a little food but he spits it out...also he never comes up and hides under the heater the whole time
Don't worry. Mine didn't eat for a few days either. It's normal for them to open their mouth. He's stil getting used to his surroundings. You're doing great, but I suggest that you deepen the water to a little over half way up the tank. He should come around in a few days.
no i have gravel but he only digs in it...how long do you think it will take for him to adjust? i also just put in some baby shrimp but he hasn't even bothered to eat them
no not yet right now its a lil chilly i bring evreything in but since its like almost my b-day i can buy all the turtles i want and whatever turtle i want
The turtle looks perfectly healthy and fine, so.

how many times a day do you feed it?

NICE DUDE! but do you need a light bulb for it and how big does it get?
brandonashplant 10 months ago
And all turtles should have a UVB light and basking platform. No matter how often they actually use it it is necessary to provide one!
Do some research, kid.

Ya, it depends tho. It doesn't depend on the gender, but sometimes they just plain don't like each other. So, yeah. Prepare for an extra tank

mehcaraminiu 2 years ago
Land. like the basking area, or the bottom of the aquarium?
birdboy93 2 years ago
my tank has water about 4 inches but the turtle always stay on the bottom and only swims when it need air and to eat

i have male turtle but if i put a female turtle in the same tank as the male one, would that female get eggs later when it grows? and do turtle lay there eggs in water or on soft land?

Don't do it till the female is sexually mature. They lay them on land. Well, they might lay them in the water, but they'll probably die.
birdboy93 2 years ago
thanks.!!!

No prob

thanks. but i have 4 1/2 becuz if i put 4 inchs the water wouldn't touch the filter. that's fine, right?
mehcaraminiu 2 years ago
Ya. 4 is just an estimate. As he grows, you can add more water. when he's about2 inches, you could probably fill it to the top.
birdboy93 2 years ago
my turtle is 1 inch and the tank is not so big. so.. what size or gallon tank should i use?
mehcaraminiu 2 years ago
A ten gallon. Only fill it up about 4 inches tho. Babies aren't very good at swimming.
