the hybrid gets the same mpg city as the regular gas engine counter parts, but it gets 5 mpg less on the highway than its regular gas engine counter parts, so is it worth spending the extra cash for the same car thats heavier and slower, with more fuel consumption?.. nope..
no actually i got my information from edmundsdotcom, they did a video review of the car and i'm sure they would have reconfigured the mpg on the Ls460 if they were going to compare that with the mpg of the Ls600h, other wise that wouldn't be an accurate comparison. edmundsdotcom is a credible site..
In this case, they didn't explain the difference quite well, did they? I, too, have seen the video and they forgot to mention it. Look it up yourself! Several articles have been written about the difference in they way the MPG is to be computed. Take the RX-350, for instance...look at the 2007 and 2008 MPG. Notice the difference on the same vehicle?
oh, yea, i've heard about the new 'true' mpg averages. the way i heard about it was that they added 20% to the true averages so the big Detroit auto makers wouldn't suffer that bad when being compared to the Japs, but i didn't know it was an industry wide thing..
Actually, the 2007 way was done in ideal situations, no one in the car, on a "treadmill", no hills/wind etc.
The 2008 method simulates, hills, starts and stops, wind, and has a payload. Most cars will see a dip in their MPG of between 10 and 30%. Hybrids will be hit the hardest...
I would think that with start and stop the hybrid would perform best because of regenerative braking. Pure treadmill driving is best for non-hybrids. Hybrids would be worse because of no chance for electric motor to be used.

the difference between the MPG is in the WAY the MPG is computed using the new 2008 rules, not the 2007 as in the LS-460 and the LS-460L...
Uninformed is not very pretty, is it?
