Dying doesn't always necessarily depict the end of life. It can also be used to describe the end of a way of life. By the time he got off the shit he was doing, he let people know what he thought in clear and direct terms. He basically said fuck the people who are judging him based on what he'd been doing, because they don't really know him for the person he could really be.
