ROLLING STAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRT!!!!!
Daytona rocked the arcade with shiny and smooth graphics, huge projection screens, force feedback chairs and steering wheels, what could beat that? Ahh, nostalgia! Then I finally bought the Saturn just to play Daytona at home, only to be sorely disappointed...what a load of crap, an insult to the proud owners of that way overpriced console (for which I regrettedly traded in my SegaCD) *sigh*
@rafenwulf it wasn't that bad bearing in mind being an early rushed port from such a powerful arcade board (model 2) to a bunch of weird chips and complex hardware that was the Sega Saturn :P
And to think that people think the XBLA/PSN release is this version...
Oh well. This was one of the first games I got with the Saturn (due to that 3 free games deal) and played the hell out of it. Sure, the performance left a lot to be desired, but I loved everything else about it that it didn't matter.
This, besides Ridge Racer Revolution for the PS1, got me into racing games a little more at the age of 10 (RRR in 1996 - demo version, this in 1997, but I did play the full version of Revolution in summer 1997 at age 11) after repeatedly struggling with the bumper car race mini-game from the Genesis version of Cosmic Spacehead back in 1995. This probably explains why most of the games I own are filled with cars nowadays, since I have a passion for them since 1991. Keep up the good work.
@RocMegamanX Japanese Sega Saturn has a much better game library than the American Saturn. A lot of games were never released outside of Japan thanks to Bernie Stolar.
as a "hardcore 100% daytona usa nut" that spend hundreds of credits in the arcade i got to say, this longplay is very nostalgic, but the player is bad.
(no ofence, but "ouch...", not even a single 17,8sec lap on the begginer course?)
@ifoejwwgyfsu The player isn't bad. There is a month of playtime between the first and the third circuits. It's 100% impossible to beat the second and third circuits without a perfect knowledge of what are you doing.
great game. Played it many times on my saturn back in the day.. Till I went to a friends house and they had Sony's new "Playstation". Quality titles for the saturn were far and few, and even despite a few months lead, the PS1 still managed to have a better or equal library at release. After a few short months you could see where things were headed. Still the early days of Saturn ownership were filled with great games like this Virtua Fighter, Panzar Dragoon, etc.
So this isn't the circuit editions which provides more choices of cars and 2 bonus race tracks. Different from the version I have in my childhood. Still, rolling start is a classic.

@ScrapeNow Yep, I used ssf 0.11 R5, with the highest compatibility mode (that fixes most problems with the sound).
