How is this unsportsmanlike conduct? If they allowed the basket they set the precedent that is was legal. The refs job is to call and interpret the rules, not dictate how they feel it should be played.
I'm curious to see the rule that states this is illegal. It's part of the game, just not something you see that often.

Its unsportsmanlike conduct because he was receiving assistance. Same way in the NFL players can't be boosted by teammates to block a field goal.
