I think she did a good job from what I heard. English is a hard language I guess and she's not entirely fluent in English like she is in Japanese so you know. But she is improving and she's coherent and understands. Besides, interviews aren't always "easy"
Improvement is always more important, people. You gotta understand the fact that having an interview isn't all that easy especially in the language you aren't fully comfortable yet.
Do people have higher expectation on her because she's Asian?? Gosh!
gees.. whats with all the bad comments.. doesn't matter how much training a celeb gets.. there ain't much celebs that knows how to speak 3 languages and sing in 3 languages.. esp only learning them for less then 3 years .. give her a break.. shes awesome.
if u criticize so much then please do go up there and try to be at least a fifth of what she is.. i really want to see u harsh critics try..
No offence but BoA is 100 times more well-trained than Britney. Just look at their dance skills. Also BoA can sing more soulfully than Britney because she put in LOTS OF Effort I know for sure she wasn't born a soul singer but she tries hard. Listen to Moto and you'll know what I mean. Britney can never and won't ever even try to sing like that.

britney didn't need that much training like boa needed. britney may not be a good vocalist, but she's one hell of a stage performer. no offense, but i'm sure in her younger days and period of sanity, she would outstage boa, easy.
shes a realy good english speaker..i want to see u learn a languge u dont know then speak it fulently in a quick period of time. i could under stand her perfectly.
Woah, she's made some super improvements. It's almost mind blowing how well she's doing. Honestly, her sentences flow extremely well for someone who isn't "fluent" in English. My definition of fluent is being able to fully comprehend what's being communicated to them and promptly responding in with a fully developed manner. BoA did exactly that. Sure some of her words have a 'chingy' sound to them but hell she presents her speech better than some of our Americans. Totally coherent.
Frankly speaking, is it really possible to speak like a native speaker when you began to learn a foreign language as an adult? I doubt it.. I do agree that she has to work more on pronunciation, though..It's quite annoying... Anyway, I appreciate her efforts- Keep going Boa!

she started learning english since she was 11. everyone knows boa is one of the worst english speakers in the industry. nothing new. and she did NOT get fluent in japanese in 2 years. it took her like 5. even now, my friends can tell she's clearly not a native japanese speaker. from what i've heard, younha picked up japanese the quickest.
if she wants to make it in the US, she really needs to work on her english or everyone will treat her like small fry. it's the harsh truth of the industry
Dang girl! Give her a break! When you say "everyone knows... worst English speakers in the industry", you talk as if she has been in the industry speaking English all the time! She ain't no American and she hasn't spent anytime in US promoting her album! and you got your ding dong right! She isn't a native Japanese speaker, she is from Korea, so give her a break and go get her album!
I agree on the part people will treat her harshly if she does not sound 'fluent'. All people here that are not native English speakers either sound like everyone else or they're known for having that 'funny' accent. And those people are Hispanic not Asian.
But I really believe BoA can be the one to break success here in the states. Other Asian stars have gave weak attempts, but their lack of English was in the way. (I wish weren't the case, but it IS true).
"And those people are Hispanic not Asian. "That's steriotypical because anyone who comes to the states and hasnt been introduced to english as their first language can have accents NOT JUST HISPANICS...
but if she wants to make it in the american market and stay there, sm needs to polish up her english.. im not hating on her alright? i wish her the best..... but thats the truth...
she is great in English compared to many other international Korean actors/singers. However, I think she should practice her pronunciation more as well as her "speaking style." It is informal to say "you know," "oh my god," or "cool" on interviews. Other than that, I strongly support BOA and I've been her fan since her first debut. CHEERS <333
You shouldn't compare normal people to a star. She has special training and is expected to learn the language and get rid of the accent. Thats what happens when you become a part of the entertainment world. You will be judged. Of course we should take into consideration her efforts because that's such an important thing but that still doesn't hid the fact that she has an accent. I know you want to protect BoA from any bashing. I do to too, but lets try to be realistic.
I agree. I thought the bottom line is that she shouldn't have any accent in the recorded album yet she still did...was a little bit disappointed about that. But real time speaking is hard...i mean for example Shakira's English albums were free of accent but she still had an accent when she spoke...
I think this is because it's much more difficult to switch from a language so different from English such as Korean, Shakira's native language is Spanish, which is similar to English, so chances are it was easier for her to switch.
I wanna marry BOA!!! =)
