Bird was great. I hate Red Auebach. He constantly shit on the old ABA. There was some serious talent in the ABA. Auerback did what he could to destroy the ABA league. He was afraid of it because they played good ball. Dr. J, Artis Gilmore, David Thompson, George Gervin, George McGinnis. Auerback was like a CEO who instead of competing fairly used some dirty tactics to bring down the league. I don't think Bird liked him. Bird could have stayed with the Celtic organization but
Thanks for posting. I watched Bird all throughout his career and he is still an inspiration to me. He always gave 110% and got the most out of his abilities and always sought more from himself. Bird cared about the performance of his teammates and used his skills to augment his teammates
No doubt that if he was in the league today, they'd win championship after championship after championship. I mean...he'd be the only player playing to win!
@Ariamaluum No, he just has a Dwyane Wade and a Chris Bosh to trust. Then gets beat by Cleveland yesterday. lol! Bird consistently plays w/ heart, Lebron doesn't.
@jp3813. Lebron doesn't have the belief like Bird did. With Bird, they lost series with Sixers in 1980 and 1982 when they had home advantage. The lost to the Bucks in 1983 and some said that Bird didn't bring it in that series due to the mutiny of Bill Fitch. But once he got Dennis Johnson in 1983, he took off. In 1981, Cornbred Maxwell was the clutch man in winning that series against Philly in 1981 and against Houston.
@Ariamaluum 80's Sixers & Bucks > yesterday's Cavs. Dwyane Wade + Chris Bosh > Dennis Johnson. Everything that you've been pointing out has nothing to do w/ playing w/ heart. One can play his heart out but lose to the better team (MJ vs 80's Pistons). This video is about consistently sacrificing your body for your team, and Lebron has a lot to learn about that from Bird. You're off-topic kid.
@jp3813. I watched Bird since 1982. He always had heart but not leadership until that loss in 1984 against the Lakers. It was then the whole team responded to his heart.
I agree, its as if Larry Bird made the decision to give it his extreamly best effort to retrieve that ball (or any ball) even in the face of guranteed failure... very inspiring.
Nice video. Just another example of Bird doing whatever it took to win. Not only would he retrieve the ball, he also threw insane passes as soon as the ball was in his hands. An unmatched instinct for the game as well as court vision. He knew where the other 9 players were on the floor at all times.
This video is amazing. There is something super-human about his instinct, hand eye coordination etc. I dont think it would matter if he competed today, or 10 years from now....he would still be amongst the greatest.

Basketball needs another Larry Bird.

Another great vid, Merk.
This epitomizes the Celts successes through the years, and reminds me why this team was always there at the very end, to win.

That's a man folks. Diving on the floor all the time is one thing... doing it in shorts so short your nuts could fly out the bottom...thats another.

Playing w/ heart. Take notes Lebron!

@jp3813. LeBron plays with heart. Look where Cleveland is without him.

@Ariamaluum He plays w/ talent, not w/ heart. Bird sacrifices his body for the ball, Lebron doesn't.

@jp3813. I have seen him dive for loose balls and stuff like Cowens. He doesn't have a Dennis Johnson to trust.

@Ariamaluum Yup, Lebron played w/ so much heart in this year's finals. *sarcasm*

@jp3813 the only hustle play lebron did was take his Cavs jersey off as fast as he could 2yrs ago after losing for the last time in Cleveland.
