  • the father of manga and anime. all salute

  • 0:00 Obey Wario, destroy Mario!

  • Wow. I had no idea Astroboy started in 1960. Always thought it was an 80s creation...

  • Soaring high in the sky, he may be small but only in size Astroboy Astroboy

  • @ihateniggers98100 Dude your, name is,very racist Dude Wtf racism is of Satan btw...just so ya know

  • This was the first Anime Series Astro boy was the First Anime Show/Series :D

  • Used to be able to sing this phonetically!

  • Astro boy made history as being the first anime broadcasted here in america right?

  • Was Astroboy the first anime?

  • @TheJboy88 First TV Anime in Japan.

and first Science Fiction anime in Japan.

  • i dont know why but whenever i see astroboy i feel like bursting out crying

  • wow

  • astro boy was born in 2004, n this anime was made in what 1963?

  • waa recordad aquellos tiempos ^^

  • Anime do Astro boy é tal fiel ao manga que e preto e branco LOL

  • Yep, Astro was "born" in 2004

  • Astro Boy is my favorite anime. lol

  • His biggest achievement is how he changed Japanese stereotypical image about anime/manga. He put any morals and ethics into them. In the first series, Astroboy chose not to survive and enjoy his life but to sacrifice himself to save all the human beings even though he is unfairly discriminated by them. I can't image how his strong message shocked Japanese people thinking of there were just happy or easygoing animated works 60 years old.

  • Ha! I used to watch this on Adult Swim at 4:30 in the morning when I was 10. I still like this show.

  • im confused...in the english its colored!

  • @pinkcatstar123 When it came to the US it was black and white/ Of course Astro Boy started in the early sixties.

  • 0:28 far In to the future ducks will have evolved to replace Dolphins who died out after the Japanese ran out of whales to murder and eat.

  • @KajiRider1997

you must be crazy Australian racist.aren't you?

  • @yoshimae0929 No I'm a nutty Dutch Greenpeace activist

  • @yoshimae0929 Also I'm not racist, I love Japan otherwise I would not be looking up nostalgic opening's like Astroboy here. And I would not be watching Kamen Rider and Super Sentai on TV Asahi every late Saturday lol.

I just don't approve of killing all the whale's that all :)

  • still not shure why this was aired on adult swim a while ago like bleach and some other shows that dont seem like there ment for adults this shude have been on at a earlyer time on CN not later on AS wth, iny ways astro boy is awsome ive seen the 2000 version and the 80's version of the series loved all 3.

  • You should all hear Shonen Knife's cover version, not that this isn't great, but, the Knife takes it up a peg (I have no idea WHY they recorded this song though)

  • I dunno why he's doing random stuff

  • Go, Astro Boy . . . !

  • I Loved the Astro Boy show even the ones from 1980 But that movie YUCK it SUCKS Tust the Yanks to STUFF it up.

  • @knife13100 Why don't we discuss the aussie's contribution to cinema. I think your country has produced 5 films that didn't suck. Even New Zealand laughs at your cinematic output.

  • The scene where Atom is digging his way under Mt. Fuji was used in the movie, they copied it almost identically.

  • Astro Boy is now showing on Animax a 24 hour anime network

  • 0:44のおねえさんが妙にセクスィでアレがナニします。

  • I think the astro boy movie totally ruined the original astro boy's reputation.

  • very good old times...

  • si miramos este opening y miramos los trailers de pelicula actuales, es mucha la diferencia, pero no deja de ser ese chico robot de lo k le llamarian bn corazon...

  • @wicketyspickety Yeah, Astroboy was born in the year 2003 in Takadanobaba in Tokyo according to the manga. I lived in Japan in that year and in the Takadanobaba subway station they had the Astroboy intro song all day long and there was a huge mural under the bridge where the train passed, it was so cool as it was the year when supposedly he was born, they were celebrating his birthday!!! =D How cool is that?? So all year long the Takadanobaba area was themed with Astroboy, was so AMAZING!!!

  • anime has evolved much.....

  • Gooo Atom Boy!!!

  • Good lord this brings me back.

  • Oh and Astro Boy is legendry!

  • Some people here have got it wrong, this wasn't the first anime.. the first one was in the 30's i think..

  • @DDApirate No cause Osamu Tezuka was born in 1928, and his first work was published in 1946 when he was 19 and many years after he created Astroboy.

  • Comment removed

  • The Part where AstroBoy drills the soils and the burst out from Mt.Sophia is really awsome. And the scene is also present in the New AstroBoy 2009 CG version and it seems as nice. Oooh, i love AstroBoy (my childhood favourite anime)

  • Aw man, I was hoping to see Astro punch out KKK guys like what I saw in the American opening.

  • @Overhazard Actually, Astro Boy doesn't like negroes. He kicks spook ass all the time.

  • I just cannot forget how great hero he was when i was young.

  • you probably dont beleive me but i spent about 4 hours looking for a place to find astro boy, anywas the best place i found was theonlinecinema. net/astro_boy i suggested it to a couple friends they all said it worked fine hope i was able to help :)

  • I love Astroboy!!! Osamu Tezuka is a genius! When I was a child I was very happy with this original animé, "The First Animé"

  • even for a old 1960s anime, its pretty amazing how they managed to create the 3D illusion by rotating AstroBoy over n over as well as flipping the background as he flies by them..

DO bear in mind that when this series was made, the technology back then aint as advanced as today....

  • and your online name is animefangirl if u was a fan girl you not have said this was gay Astro boy was created by the man knowen as the god of manga Osamu Tezuka and revolutionized Anime the greates thing ever created a true fan a OTAKU would NEVER EVER CALL AN ANIME GAT EVER NOT IN A MILLION YEARS a true otaku will sit and watch and read and collect every anime related item they can get their hands on soo ya know ya bitch go die in a hole and learn the true meaning of being an anime fan BITCH

  • Cool Story Bro

  • stfu this was the first anime, so if this wasnt made who knows if anime would exist today. if you have nothing nice to say then why bother watching it ffs

  • It's called expressing ones opinion, you Dick. I really don't think anime would not exist if this didn't exist. you Otaku Fag.

  • @animefangirl455 i'm not a fan of this anime either [although i loved the 80's remake, and feel pretty good about the 2003 incarnation as well] ....however, without this cartoon you would not have anime in the thriving form it is now [ Critiques on this series removed] have to start somewhere.

  • I think Astro boys a great anime, im glad the creator was inspired by Betty Boops eyes <3

cant wait to see the new movie of astro boy

  • Wow another typical anime fangirl. How old are you? At least show some respect.

  • Wow nice comeback how long did that take you to make? Dumbass.

  • Troll what are you talking about? Clam down your probably just a little girl.Shows like this put the fountation for modern anime basically without shows like this anime wouldn't really exist lol and you call yourself a anime fan don't make me laugh.

  • My comments get a thumbs just cause I defend this show? wow.

  • @animefangirl455 Wait to fail.

  • @laughingwarlock

    What?

  • @animefangirl455 Don't dis the forbearers to a cultural phenomenon you support until you've accurately assessed the situation.

  • That was sweet. Notice it shows the then-

    new "Hokkaido Bullet Train" several

times, of which Japan was very proud,

and proved just how "fast" Astroboy

must have been, to have outpaced

the Bullet Train. Cute to the max!

  • @4freespeech Ummm.. The hokkaido bullet train was only shown twice, not several times. Watch again.

  • @kistajk OK twice. Is it time to nit pick over the intro to a cartoon?

Anyhow it was my fave thing to see on this cute little anime back

then because they announced the Bullet Train over and over in

the papers and we Americans were thrilled with it. We were

then and are now still dreadfully sorry for burning up so many

of those dear little folk with atomic bombs. I had a wonderful

Japanese friend named Tetsuo back in the 1950s and every

time I see Astroboy I think of him.

  • hehe...00:29...marikina....LOL

  • Well See Id agree with you there except truth is the opening to the show america actually made their song soo this is actually a longer version of the english one in japanese doesn't it sound freakin cool though?

  • 0:38 to 0:40 isn't this shown in the 2009 astroboy movie trailer?

  • omg i bet the show is set in the 2000s

lol i love how the past imagines the future

  • @wicketyspickety in fact it's that we were supose to be ale to create robots like ATOM in 2000, even now we are supose to have flying cars and we don't.

  • @wicketyspickety it actually was

  • Astro-Boy there you go...this is the one I remember, tho it was Not in Japanese...here in the USA...

  • Where the hell can I buy these originals on DVD (without paying over $100?)

  • Impossible!

  • is astro boy gay?

  • Hell No, he's not!!!

  • he looks like a butt muncher though

  • How the hell can a robot be gay?!

  • well guess what, he's not and I just look at your profile and YOUR A TROLL!! nwo get out or else.

  • um yeah, actually I'm not a big fan of it. however, I did seen this anime and I heard this is one of the first shonen animes. now stop trolling and go look for something else if you don't like it!

  • I DID SEEN?? duh!!

  • sorry I mean " I did See it"

  • Wouldn't it be the very first anime?????

  • i red somewhere that it could be :D

  • It wasn't the first anime ever made, but it was the first anime to have an ongoing plot.

  • OK..... I just look at your profile and from a look of it YOUR A TROLL!!!! now get out you hater!!

  • Lol. I like how you remain calm while that jrjr143 faggot rants on and on about how this robot's a transvestite. Funny thing is, I bet a transvestite would beat the shit outta him.

  • now that is a great opening to the catroon astroboy. Go, Astro, Go (wish it was in colour to see the difference but that is ok)

  • Wow, a blast from my past! Way to make me feel old, LOL!

  • suck on that Mickey mouse, you got upstaged. This beats Mickey's past and current incarnations by a long shot! hooray retro!

  • this song is older then me haha

  • Yay Astro boy the first shonen anime. Osama Tezuka rocks. XD

  • Isn't Astro Boy the first Anime at all?

  • pretty much yes

  • There was some Japanese animation from the early 1940s, mainly film shorts and WW2 Japanese propaganda shorts which I guess could be termed Anime, although they weren't anything like Astro Boy.

I believe Tezuka was an assistant on some of those WW2 films.

  • So this is what started it all...

  • ahhh nostalgic anime times huh

  • It is so cool.

  • Best robot in anime history.

  • I know right? I think its one of the best and older anime series that is actually worth watching.

including speed racer, but hes not a robot

    xD

  • Well, Astro Boy is first Japanese series that really pushed the boundaries of what you can accomplish in a story.

I've read the first 7 volumes of the Dark Horse manga. It's literally like nothing I've ever read before. The pacing's a little too fast, but the dynamic and colorful designs, the surprising depth in the main characters for each serial...

Osamu Tezuka is truly the father of anime and manga.

  • 'progenitor of all Japanese anime' - you say that like it's a good thing...

  • Tekuza influneced many greats, such as Miyazaki.

  • rome is burning? lol I could care less the world is due for a change.

  • astroboy rules i love this version

  • jajajajajajja en el segundo 0:29 dice MARIKITA ...jajajkjjaujajahda!!!

  • jajajaj q pelotudo q sos jajajajaj

  • Es uno de los iconos mas importante del manga japones..

  • i like this one better than the english one the english one is annoying with those little kids singing

  • No. Just no.

  • I love this song. I used to watch it in French and English

  • wow, this is a classic, i got the whole mp3 but seeing the video is nostalgic!!

  • you're not a true anime fan unless you have appreciation for astro boy

  • O RLY, I don't like Astro boy. The animation is TERRIBLE.

  • if Astro boy animation a terrible, than theres nothing different between todays and this one, so that means u said japan animation a all terrible, atleast they got the guts to make better animation than the western, cause most of the western a all lazy.

  • You obviously haven't seen astro boy XD

  • Not really. I LOVED Astro Boy as a kid and I can see now that it was what we would consider "limited" animation. The other problem was that, unlike today, they would send raw Japanese/English translations which the people would have to try to make relevant. (Japanese does not translate well directly to English.)

  • At least, the west uses more key frames and animate mouth movement better.

  • hey ass terrible or not its still the progenitor of all japanese anime, if they had better equipment and more money they would obviously make it better, wich they did there was another version of astro boy realeased in the 80's.

  • Anus

  • ohh ur a girl.... carry on :P.

  • "WTF are you LOL about exactly?"

    Lolwut? That made no sense.

  • Sure it did,

I was asking you a question

    in regards to your post.

  • LOL WTF

  • WTF are you LOL about exactly?

Osamu Tezuka who created Astro Boy was the godfather of Manga. They even have several museums for the man in Japan where he is an icon, So show a little respect.

  • I use to watch this as a kid in the early 1960's. I still have a yellow Golden record of the theme song in English, B side is a whistle version of theme song.

  • very nostalgic clip

watched it b&w when I was a kid

still one of my favorite cartoons

fascinated as a kid back then

real robots made by the Japs now maybe a real astroboy in a few years time

  • Is there going to be a Astro Boy movie?

  • I have a Astro Boy board game! :) & saw some of this anime show on The Cartoon Network/Adult Swim.

  • Yes. Next year. They will follow the original verison than Speed Racer. Plus it animated in 3d.

  • So it'll be a 3D animated Astro Boy movie?

  • The japanese are always so ahead of the times. This was a black and white cartoon and did you notice the perspectives and angles? the same with speed racer, unique camera angles and great story lines and animation! They set the TRUE standard for animation! I love it!!!

  • Are you high? Astro Boy, although great, was a cheap imitation of Fleischer Studios' Popeye cartoons of the 30's. If you want to see ahead-of-its-time perspective and angles, give some black and white Popeye (or any pre-King Features Fleischer work) a try. Remember, if it wasn't for the influence or characters like Betty Boop and Popeye on Tezuka-sama(R.I.P.), there wouldn't be anime as we know it today.

  • I'm not high....I know anime was influenced by early American cartoons, but the Japanese do it the best!!!And this is a Black American male saying this. Canada invented Basketball, but the USA (and other countries now) do it the BEST. The same goes for Japan and their brand of animation, nothing comes close! Thanks for the comment, this is a great discussion!

  • it`s wonderfull, the best anime, i like it., i love it

  • osamu tezuka is a king

  • The animation in this is fantastic, it holds up wonderfully even now

  • すごい。白黒だー。

  • omg this video is beast!!!=D

  • Villians fear him, so we cheer him!!! The Amazing Astro Boy!!!

  • shit?

its one of the best things on there that isnt hombrew or death note. although it really doesnt fit adult swim. belongs more of a saturday morning thing.

still one of the best shows ever

  • Thanks for posting this.

  • yeah, sounds way better in japanese, i'm with subtitles all the way. i love astro boy, it is so beautiful and lovely, and moral.

  • So there were TWO openings for the Japanese version of Astroboy. The one we've all seen in the English dub, and this one I've just finished viewing.

I like this OP better, and I've had a chance to watch the original Astro OP from Season 1 on DVD, including two eps in their original language.

  • The original Japanese first season had no singing, but when american tv dubbed the shows for broadcast, they added the song at the intro. That proved so popular in japan, the japanese lyrics were added.

NBC-TV paid for part of the production costs for season 2. Interesting to me, since I always thought that the japanese cartoons were bought cheap.

  • Thank you!! I was finally able to find the original opening I heard during my childhood.

  • Ah, the memories that this original anime brings back of a simpler time in my life. I'm wondering what the texts read in this introduction in addition to what the lyrics are saying. Anybody read and speak Japanese?

  • Need translation? I've tried literal translation of lyrics. Please allow me about grammatical problem. 1st part; Beyond the sky (la la la) over the stars. Let's go, Atomu with full power of jet. Gentle hearted (la la la) son of science. A hundred thousand horsepower, Tetsuwan Atomu. 2nd part; Strain your ears. (la la la) Strain your eyes. Okay, Atomu Don't be careless. Fair mind (la la la) son of science. Seven kinds of power, Tetsuwan Atomu.
  • didnt japan HATE us in the 1940s?

  • I think this was made in the '50's

  • 60s

  • Even in limited animation Astro's adorable. I've seen this series and this was probably the most amount of animation the series used XD

  • Respect! Osamu Tezuka, the true god of manga...

  • first televimanga tv series.
