@wicketyspickety Yeah, Astroboy was born in the year 2003 in Takadanobaba in Tokyo according to the manga. I lived in Japan in that year and in the Takadanobaba subway station they had the Astroboy intro song all day long and there was a huge mural under the bridge where the train passed, it was so cool as it was the year when supposedly he was born, they were celebrating his birthday!!! =D How cool is that?? So all year long the Takadanobaba area was themed with Astroboy, was so AMAZING!!!
The Part where AstroBoy drills the soils and the burst out from Mt.Sophia is really awsome. And the scene is also present in the New AstroBoy 2009 CG version and it seems as nice. Oooh, i love AstroBoy (my childhood favourite anime)

hey ass terrible or not its still the progenitor of all japanese anime, if they had better equipment and more money they would obviously make it better, wich they did there was another version of astro boy realeased in the 80's.
Osamu Tezuka who created Astro Boy was the godfather of Manga. They even have several museums for the man in Japan where he is an icon, So show a little respect.
I use to watch this as a kid in the early 1960's. I still have a yellow Golden record of the theme song in English, B side is a whistle version of theme song.
The japanese are always so ahead of the times. This was a black and white cartoon and did you notice the perspectives and angles? the same with speed racer, unique camera angles and great story lines and animation! They set the TRUE standard for animation! I love it!!!
Are you high? Astro Boy, although great, was a cheap imitation of Fleischer Studios' Popeye cartoons of the 30's. If you want to see ahead-of-its-time perspective and angles, give some black and white Popeye (or any pre-King Features Fleischer work) a try. Remember, if it wasn't for the influence or characters like Betty Boop and Popeye on Tezuka-sama(R.I.P.), there wouldn't be anime as we know it today.
I'm not high....I know anime was influenced by early American cartoons, but the Japanese do it the best!!!And this is a Black American male saying this. Canada invented Basketball, but the USA (and other countries now) do it the BEST. The same goes for Japan and their brand of animation, nothing comes close! Thanks for the comment, this is a great discussion!
its one of the best things on there that isnt hombrew or death note. although it really doesnt fit adult swim. belongs more of a saturday morning thing.
A few years ago, two parents went out for dinner. A few hours later, the babysitter was calling to ask if she could cover up the clown statue in the kids' room, the father said,"Take the kids and get out of the house. We'll call the police, we don't have a clown statue." The "clown statue" is really a killer that escaped from jail. If you don't post this letter on to 10 videos tonight, the clown will be in your bed at 3:00 am with a chainsaw in his hand
The original Japanese first season had no singing, but when american tv dubbed the shows for broadcast, they added the song at the intro. That proved so popular in japan, the japanese lyrics were added.
NBC-TV paid for part of the production costs for season 2. Interesting to me, since I always thought that the japanese cartoons were bought cheap.
Ah, the memories that this original anime brings back of a simpler time in my life. I'm wondering what the texts read in this introduction in addition to what the lyrics are saying. Anybody read and speak Japanese?
Need translation? I've tried literal translation of lyrics. Please allow me about grammatical problem. 1st part; Beyond the sky (la la la) over the stars. Let's go, Atomu with full power of jet. Gentle hearted (la la la) son of science. A hundred thousand horsepower, Tetsuwan Atomu. 2nd part; Strain your ears. (la la la) Strain your eyes. Okay, Atomu Don't be careless. Fair mind (la la la) son of science. Seven kinds of power, Tetsuwan Atomu.

@kistajk OK twice. Is it time to nit pick over the intro to a cartoon?
Anyhow it was my fave thing to see on this cute little anime back
then because they announced the Bullet Train over and over in
the papers and we Americans were thrilled with it. We were
then and are now still dreadfully sorry for burning up so many
of those dear little folk with atomic bombs. I had a wonderful

GOTHMIDNIGHTMERMAID 3 years ago
Yes. Next year. They will follow the original verison than Speed Racer. Plus it animated in 3d.

So it'll be a 3D animated Astro Boy movie?
GOTHMIDNIGHTMERMAID 3 years ago

Thanks for the comment, this is a great discussion!

yeah, sounds way better in japanese, i'm with subtitles all the way. i love astro boy, it is so beautiful and lovely, and moral.

So there were TWO openings for the Japanese version of Astroboy. The one we've all seen in the English dub, and this one I've just finished viewing.
I like this OP better, and I've had a chance to watch the original Astro OP from Season 1 on DVD, including two eps in their original language.

Thank you!! I was finally able to find the original opening I heard during my childhood.

Ah, the memories that this original anime brings back of a simpler time in my life. I'm wondering what the texts read in this introduction in addition to what the lyrics are saying. Anybody read and speak Japanese?
