Because i live in britain and dont get this on british television, i would like to ask a question. Are any of the days of our lives characters off friends in this.
Because joey stars with a number of people supposedly in this.
I agree that is the sound from the good ol days and they should bring it back...Look at it this way if the diehard fans of the young and the restless can successfully demand CBS to bring back the old theme to their favorite show then we can do the same too.
Frances Reid passed away on Wed Feb 3, 2010 aged 95. She is one of the last of the original cast members of 'Days.' She even outlived a couple of her younger co-stars.
No one in my family watched this show but I would see and hear this opening before my mother turned the channel. I thought the whole combination of the hour glass and the music were very dramatic and captivating.
Macdonald Carey was the star of the show, the biggest name in the cast when it started in 1965. From the moment he started doing the "Like sands through the hourglass" voiceover, he included his name. When they redid the theme in 1993, he retaped the voiceover; it still is used today, minus the "This is Macdonald Carey" section which was removed out of respect for the family when Carey died in 1994.
Macdonald Carey was probably the first Hollywood actor to do a soap opera. He was the "star" of the show, pretty much. I guess his addressing himself would probably bring more viewers to the show.
Thanx Mega, great memories! I think this name mentioning worked! But when I was a kid I always thought that it was the person who created the show! I guess for an 8 yearold I came close!
Yes, Gramma Horton is still in it, but she isn't shown that much, and she's past 90, so you can tell she's not exactly all there when she does have a scene.
I remember hearing this while playing with toys on the floor when my mother did housework. And this WAS a catchy tune! Note: Mexican soaps are extremly popular. But 2-3 seasons are simply the limit then terminated. More than that strains fan tolerance I think. Clearly...U.S. fans see differnently.
For those of us who watched the show, since the 60's,the/theme is neither haunting/nor creepy. For me,it reminds me of coming home from kindergarten in'68 & my beloved(late)grandmother, sewing & doing crochet on our couch in our family room as I arrived. She would lovingly fix me a snack & we'd watch her soaps for the rest of the afternoon:this show,The Doctors,Another World,Somerset & The Edge of Night. This theme brings me back to those happy memories of my grandmother whenever I hear it.Thanks!
You mean '78. If you're 34 years old you weren't around in 1968. Besides I began watching this just about when television was at it's peak years with all those drama bullshit shows - the 90's. Didn't know it was from 1965. Anyways the 90's rules.

I lie about my age. Wouldn't you? @ 44? Most people think i am 10 to even 15 years younger than my real age. I do not dye my hair (black) and have smooth skin. Good genes, I guess. Take care.
Why would you lie about your age? It's quite popular these days to brag about your age and your life experiences in the 60's, 70's and the 80's. People take those years for granted all of the sudden. Like it's some kind of status thing. So you shouldn't feel ashamed at all, being old and everything.
Sorry, Garysc, 'Days of Our Lives' was expanded to an hour in 1975. The only soap expanded to 90 minutes was 'Another World' due to declining ratings, and there was never a 'The' in the title of 'Days',not even in 1965 when the show first aired on November 8. ABC soaps expanded to 45 minutes under Fred Silverman in the 70's. This is according to 'Soap World' by Robert LaGuardia.
Don't post inaccurate info. on a public board. I know you are only 21 but check your facts. It aired for 90 minutes a short while from 1979 to 1980, when it was number one, along with "Another World" which was spinning off "Texas". I was a live viewer at the time. If you had known MacDonald Carey and had seen the first episode you'd know that "the" was in the title. Opinions and preferences are not facts.
Hello. You mentioned in a comment section that you had the opening title sequence to the very first episode of Days of Our Lives. Do you have that posted here on youtube? Id like to watch it. Thanks
I miss Stefano DiMera...that guy was absolutely hilarious. I am male yet I found myself watching Days of Our Lives for a brief period from 2000 - 2001. Then they killed off Stefano , it got boring and I quit.
I noticed another version of the same title theme on www.wost.org, and it had a copyright disclaimer thing at the bottom (I'm guessing when it was used during the early 70s).
More specifically, from Wikipedia: "The title card would also say "Copyright 1972 by Corday Productions, Inc." While the copyright was only for the title sequence, viewers would become confused in later years, as the 1972 copyright notice stayed on the title sequence until 1985."
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! This intro was used from 1972 to 1993. Carey's voice is still used for the current intro. They just cut of the last part of the voiceover out of respect for Carey's family after he passed away.
