Macdonald Carey was the star of the show, the biggest name in the cast when it started in 1965. From the moment he started doing the "Like sands through the hourglass" voiceover, he included his name. When they redid the theme in 1993, he retaped the voiceover; it still is used today, minus the "This is Macdonald Carey" section which was removed out of respect for the family when Carey died in 1994.

For those of us who watched the show,since the 60's,the/theme is neither haunting/nor creepy.For me,it reminds me of coming home from kindergarten in'68 & my beloved(late)grandmother,sewin­g & doing crochet on our couch in our family room as I arrived.She would lovingly fix me a snack & we'd watch her soaps for the rest of the afternoon:this show,The Doctors,Another World,Somerset & The Edge of Night. The only soap expanded to 90 minutes was 'Another World' due to declining ratings, and there was never a 'The' in the title of 'Days',not even in 1965 when the show first aired on November 8. ABC soaps expanded to 45 minutes under Fred Silverman in the 70's. This is according to 'Soap World' by Robert LaGuardia.

THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS!!! This intro was used from 1972 to 1993. Carey's voice is still used for the current intro. They just cut of the last part of the voiceover out of respect for Carey's family after he passed away.

Well, the show was kind of tough to follow. Throughout the 80's and early 90's there was a lot of unrest and a lot of shake-ups to the cast that had adverse effects on the storylines. The whole "who's the real Roman" saga was among the worst of the worst! That's probably why.
