  • this wld be awkward to watch with my dad

    :P

  • 2:25 Hendrix

  • 3:50 Derek Trucks

  • John mayer is the reason I picked up a strat...

  • holy...fuck....this the greatest thing EVER. he'ssss sooooooo sexy.....

  • people don't appreciate that we get the product of all the great guitarists before us in john mayer. but he still finds a way to make it original.

  • i already feel pretty bad about my guitar playing whenever i watch john mayer play. then i realized how much better than me he is even when the guitar is laying on the ground... genius

  • is this guy any less of a genius than einstien...?? IS HE ??? YOU TELL ME ....

  • Solowise - the sickest performance I think I've ever seen.

  • is this john's song? cover?

  • @diogo1eli its from Duffy

  • @anaritacardodo thanks =]

  • Shweeet

  • john's takin some jeff beck licks, hah, its sweet

  • Muito bom!!! O John ao vivo deve ser demais... *-*

  • if you guys think that Mayer is the best new thing since SRV, do youselves a favor and check out Derek Trucks.

  • @nicosfi derek is awesome too. but i think john has something different as a musician, as a guitar player. that diference that makes him so good. he`s dinamic, he`s got something new to show everytime. he knows exactly what to do in every musical situation. if you didn`t notice that, than you know nothing of john mayer.

  • @alxlief well, I've only heard him playing live on the Where The Light Is CD, but I really don't agree with you. I don't think he's that original. Maybe I'm missing something, or didn't hear him play live enough times, but all I hear is a great guitarrist, talented, but not genuine. When I hear him play I hear the sounds of SRV, Clapton, Hendrix, but not John Mayer, understand? Which at first is not a problem, but if you want to put him on the same level as SRV, it kinda annoys me.

  • @nicosfi i'm not putting John Mayer on SRV or any other guitarrist level. that just doesn't exist... i understand you. john uses alot of hendrix, SRV, clapton's licks.. but he does alot of his own stuff too. watch these videos: watch?v=B7N4BFi1muA

    watch?v=Lb7AZqRTmAw&feature=related

maybe you'll understand what i'm trying to say.

  • @nicosfi If John isnt orignal because he copies SRV, SRV isnt either because he copies Hendrix, Hendrix copies Son House and so on... none of them is original then? @alxlief Tem a cabeça boa ein garoto. Isso aee! Abraço

  • @diogo1eli claro que nao... uma coisa é influencia, outra "copia". O SRV conseguiu criar o seu proprio estilo, já o Mayer cola um monte de frases do Hendrix e do SRV juntas e pronto.

  • @nicosfi então vc nunca ouviu nada dele direito.

vai ouvir derek trucks pra entender do que eu to falando

  • @alxlief I'm sorry if I'm difficult to understand, I'm not a native english speaker.

  • @nicosfi I'm not either... I'm brazilian and i'm 15

  • never knew jack shepard could play the guitar

  • He was in better shape in 2008 than 2010 .. why? = I don't know

  • 5:48 he just throw his guitar on the floor! lol

  • 2:23-2:28 Machine Gun by Hendrix written all over that little trill of notes

  • CARALHO

  • Clapton said Buddy Guy was the best who ever lived. So who am I to say any different, but there has been and still is a lot of greats out there. Peter Frampton, Alvin Lee, Sonny Landreth and Steve Winwood don't forget B B and Albert King. Mayer can go toe to toe with anyone.

  • Can we say a slight bit of Jeff Beck? Good work Mayer, rock it

  • He's okay, definitely no SRV in the feeling dept. Bunch of homers, lol. He's messy in his playing with a bunch of squeaks. Also I will say this, he didn't play anything here that isn't standard in a bluesman's library. Sounds like crap when he put it on the ground.... LMAO!

  • @ToutsGames

Wow i never though i would be speaking to the biggest prick on youtube! congratulations! I would love to see you pick up a guitar and try and play like this :) We all know SRV was amazing... but this guy is THE NEXT BEST THING in comparison. so before you start slaggin' off talented people pick up a fucking guitar and try to play even 1 billionth as well as this :)

  • Actually I do play guitar, have for almost 20 years, off and on... I can definitely play far better than what what he played on the floor of the stage and so can most any guitarist I know. I can tell you're a kid because you are far more impressed with childish antics on stage, confusing that with talent! For the record I think he's got talent but this video shows he will never be SRV or EC as long as he spends his time doing this on stage. I was commenting on THIS video, not his overall skill.

  • @ToutsGames

Well, just because you've played guitar for 20 years that doesn't mean that you're as good as this? When he plays on the floor - this is NOT the part i am most impressed by, so you making the silly assumption that i am a kid is irrelevant. It's just a stage trick used to keep the audience's attention. sort your life out.

  • LOL, I never said I was as good as John Mayer - I don't get the luxury of sitting around all day to play guitar. I work 40+ hours a week to support my house, truck, etc for the last 12 years. My life is sorted quite well. The fact is that this video showcases him acting like an idiot (by putting guitar on the floor) and I CAN play better than him playing on the floor. I surely wouldn't pay money to see him if that was how he sounded all the time. I have seen him play better, much better.

  • That was.....AMAZING!!!!

  • vvvery nice....ya heard....very very nice....whos his daddy????

  • Comment removed

  • totally amazing!! the only thing to say..

  • Is that Jeff Beck ?? ;)

  • Sounds like Scott Henderson

  • smashing down that guitar, feeeeeel that bluesin!

  • My God.....this has to be one of the best, if not THE best, video I have ever seen of his. Know what, hell this is the best, over the fucking top. a1mbient I totally agree with you, he is OUR SRV! Now I must try to pick my self up off the floor.

  • jeff beck inspiration

  • John, Love the Blues you be playin bro!!! Check this out, you used to pump gas in Fairfield & I remember you. Now heres the cool part! I'm friends with Mili from SteelHeart a band out of Fairfield County & I took a few lessons from Chris Risola who took lessons from Link Chamberlien what technical training I have(not much) tell me what you think when you get a chance. Mili Who was known as Mike Matijevic was the voiceover for Mark Walberg opp. Jennifer Anniston, Funny huh?

  • I just wanna scream when I see something this amazing. He's reaaaaally really good. The new album needs to come out like NOW.

  • November 17th!!! AHHHH

  • WOOO!!!

  • Such a great player, i love that harmonica/microphone sound/tone he has...and whats 5:55 sec... sounds lush = )

  • Comment removed

  • awesome. fools don't recognize that John Mayer is a guitar prodigy of our time, not just some guy who made some stuff that hit the pop charts.

  • My heart literally skipped a beat!!!

  • This is insanely good! Mercy!

  • I love this performance, for once he's taking more of a Jeff Beck approach to playing, shame he can't do this more.

  • Eric Clapton said that John Mayer is the best guitarist that he has ever played on stage with. And for that to come out of Claptons mouth says all that needs to be said about John Mayer.

  • Comment removed

  • unfortunatly I cant remember were it was that i seen it. But I swear on my life that in an interview Clapton said out of his own mouth that John Mayer was the best guitarist that he has ever played on stage with. When I heard it i couldnt believe it either. Ill try and find it again and if i do ill send you a link.

  • Comment removed

  • let me know if you find that

  • that's a big compliment, clapton has played with guy like jeff beck and santana

  • @RTaylorlane yea send me that link to I'd like to see that...

  • @RTaylorlane Thanks

  • @RTaylorlane your right men!

  • @RTaylorlane Could you maybe give me a link to the interview where he said that, or at least tell me where you heard it because as much as I like mayer I find that comment hard to swallow. John is maybe the most under rated guitar player out there but I can't imagine clapton would say he was the best he's ever played with onstage because clapton played with HENDRIX on stage. I just can't imagine Clapton even implying that John Mayer is better then Jimi Hendrix.

  • @MilesofColtrane Why not? Jimi Hendrix was from a different time then John. John's been able to swallow down a lot more musical information, bevause there simple is a lot more music. Next to that people are more into technique these days. Jimi was an innovater, but compared to todays guitarists, he's actually not THAT great. He was just innovative. I like to sepereate those aspects of JH

  • @RTaylorlane please tell me where you heard this. Because he's played with Hendrix

  • Comment removed

  • in the beginnin

  • sounds a little like jeff beck

  • When he put his guitar on the ground........I wanted to jump on stage.....and.....just go bananas.

  • I flipped when I was down there in chula vista...when he dropped hat guitar, man my heart fell out!!!

I had 2 keep walkin back and forth down below like i was findin my seat, so I could just get a little closer...ahh man makes me want 2 go get a white strat and hot rod that mother with a nice whammy....ahh man the blues son is still a...LIVE!!!!!!!!

  • Omg he is so pro LAying down his guitar hahahahahhahaah hes master

    He Willem :)

  • quit hating on john please. hes one of my favorite guitar players. he super talented . and plus if u can make better music than him or play better. were ur band and iv never heard of u JM is one of the best guitarist so yeah .. quit hating

  • ok...so my guitar pants are going f'ing crazy right now! all JM haters please STFU because the dude is very well on his way to becoming a legend in his own right.

  • yeah im totally hearing that jeff beck sound... solid

  • holyyy shit

  • i'm pretty sure he wasn't sweeping... he was just picking and it was like.. u pick the d string, then pick the g string and hammer 2 frets up, then pick the b string, then pick the g string and pull off to the open fret again... its not hard but it does sound amazing when u do it.. u can do it a string higher too or u can do it in the next solo box up the neck as well.. also.. this is sick and if u wanna see his crazy funky bluesy jazzy skills hit up john mayer and buddy guy what kind of woman..

  • I just searched what kind of a woman... You gotta be kiddin me. These are the times that make not attending class and staying home watching mayer clips priceless, with added hours of inspiration for when I pick up my strat.

  • damn i feel you bro hahaha

  • If anyone still has a doubt about john mayer or says one more thing about how he's not a real blues guitarist... i might shoot them.... Buddy guy style playing on the floor...absolutely disgusting licks.... too bad he had to come out with your body is a wonderland first.... phenomenal

  • Yeah man, when John first started getting noticed for his guitar skills even Buddy Guy said he was the best new blues guitarist around. And hes only gotten better. A legend in the making. You dont fuck around with what Buddy Guy says.

  • nate my man im right there with u. me and mom went to his concert in south fl and my dad decided to tag along. needless to say he hated all his hit song that he played but when he played mercy i think he shit his pants of amazement haha

  • Comment removed

  • what a beast

  • oh so sick. envy says it for me

  • mayer is easily the best living guitarist out there Fucking obscenly rediculously good

  • Right behind Jeff Beck and Joe Bonamassa. ;)

I'm kidding, but seriously, don't go into whos the best it's not a competition. It's art. But this is very Jeff Beck.

  • Yeah there is a Jeff Beck like vibe, thats kinda neat. He sure can rock

  • Jimi Hendrix, Stevie Ray Vaughan and John Mayer are my 3 favorite guitarists.

9 minutes and 4 seconds after starting this video i've decided that john mayer is the best musician alive. i don't give a fuck what anyone says. sweep picking at 8:00 lol and it fit the song.

  • @FuckinNate and that was 3 years ago. he's even nastier now. it's really remarkable

  • Ridiculous.

  • That just happend

  • san diego girls got me begging you for mercy!

    amazing show that night =]

  • wow, your camera has amazing zoom

  • Oh my...John Mayer with a pinch of Jeff Beck. Then I think he's Hendrix reincarnated at 5:45...

  • omg i was here and this was the most amazing show ever!!! hes sooooo fucking good its ridiculous

  • holy fuck. Ripping.

  • hommina hommina hommina

  • damn its like hes taking weekend lessons from hendrix haha killin shit

  • lol John Mayer's schedule

    Friday Night- BB King Lesson

    Saturday Night- SRV Lesson

    Sunday Night- Hendrix Lesson

    Weekdays- Fuck shit up

  • You mean

24/7 - Be talented and skilled and make kids all over youtube jealous.

  • no. 24/7 make my mind blow

  • Please, Jeff Beck?! JB is solid and has a unique stlye. JM certainly pulled some tricks, but honestly, there is no comparison. JB can't play the blues like JM. He is awesome in his own style, but let's face it, JM is SRV status for sure in the blues sector!

  • Yeah, so many thigs can be done with a whammy, like Jeff Beck, you can make it sound like a slide guitar - much more than dive bombs.

  • thanks for posting this. jm is amazingly talented. i didn't know anyone could play guitar like!

  • JM has been listening/studying Jeff Beck style. Praise JB if you like this!!!!

  • He finally got the whammy going!!

  • amazing!
