I cry when I watch this. And then I cry because people would think thats pretentious. then I cry about crying over that. then I cry bc yet again-anomaly.
I love CocoRosie and Devendra, but I have to sit and think about what Bianca and Sierra were talking about in the beginning of this video. "The idea of a normal life sounds really unnatural to us", "we started out away, we've been making our way in", etc.. Everything she's saying seems so exaggerated because they're drinking beer, using apple macs, and talking about going to clubs. They aren't as broken away from society or obscure as they claim to be. They're still reaping society's benefits.
@faizaidi i think what they probably meant is that they don't want to have a normal life in the sense of "going to school-college-workingallyourlife-and waking up someday and realise your life has passed you by because you were to busy with all of society (and your family or even yourself) were expecting from you"... because that happens to so much people, they are just living everyday without asking any questions or even thinking about it. so they're living their lives exactly as they wish..
@faizaidi I like them very much, but I agree wholeheartedly. I just can't stand when ANY artist tries to talk like this because most "hipsters" nowadays try to be so eclectic and separate from society yet they still prance around talking on iPhones, wearing designer clothes, living in big cities. Maybe they mean that they feel spiritually separated, but, physically, they're living pretty much like normal citizens, except maybe a bit less civilized.
@faizaidi they were referring to their childhoods, which if you look into their biographies, were very different from "normal" Americans, and they weren't reaping society's benefits at that time. At 0:46 Bianca states that she doesn't feel on the outside so much any more since their project has been such a welcoming into the world. I heard she didn't know what TV was until 11, sierra was kicked out at 14, etc. their project is based around their childhood (hence the name of the documentary).
this music is so real......they are really speaking about what it's like to be alive in 2009.....they are not pretnetious.......they are authentic 100%.....they will be this way till they die.......they are children.....they are radical......they are revolutionary........they are not followers
CocoRosie, Antony and Devendra are all friends and are usually lumped into similar musical categories (freak folk, anti-folk). Both Bianca and Sierra have dated Antony as well (not sure if they still are or not). They also all have a carefree and childlike qualities to their music, thus "The Eternal Children"
He's not saying "no one made good music in the 90's". look at what songs were really big to a lot of the youth in the 90's? Smells Like Teen Spirit (I feel stupid and contagious
Here we are now, entertain us), Creep (I'm a creep I'm a weirdo...I don't belong here). He's pointing out that in the past few years, a lot of young people have been getting into music that reflects a kind of older and perhaps more spiritual sound.

Hey Antony-
There was a lot of great shit going on in the early 90s: Killdozer, the Jesus Lizard, Laughing Hyenas. I never gave half a shit about Nirvana.
Speaking of irony- ain't it ironic that hippies are still hippies, four decades down the line. Spacecases blabbing about faeries, putting down anyone who works for a living.
Mais oui, je comprend. And yes, they appear retarded to me, but not because they are out of this world. I know several artists that I think are beautiful and out of this world. But they do not appear retarded to me. It´s a matter of individual taste, nothing else. And that´s a good thing which brings diversity and creativity.
I guess what got me there was the way you said it. It was not what you said, just the 'arrogant' way I thought it was said. I must be wrong then, and i'm sorry, it's just that when i read 'Cocorosie appear retarded though...' it's not a developped critic, that's all.
Well, thanks for the fast awnsering and the justification :) I won't keep on going don't worry.
I just think that cocorosie are very human, coz living in france i get the impression people are dead, they don't know how to express themselves properly, so i look out for living feelings.
Ok, how surprising, that´s not what I thought of France.Thought we were more inbound people here in Sweden where I live. There are several artists that I like and defend, but in very different ways. Some music that I like,I don´t care if people bluntly say that they dislike it or even states that they can´t understand why anyone would like it.Other music is harder to hear and accept people´s negative views about.I guess Depeche Mode,Jeff & Tim Buckley and Freddie Wadling (swedish) are among those.

Heard of sweeden, sounds great.
And yes it's actually that, you have to accept the negatif point of view of others without changing your mind.
I just reacted on impulsion.

And yeah france sounds great, but it's lonely. A lot of culture, but lonely.
