I have the 942SBK and its amazing! By far my favorite EDC knife of all time. I've put it through so much for such a long time and still functions like its brand new. Who ever owns one should know what I'm talking about :D
Great review. I have been wanting to add a 940 to my collection. I know I'll have to buy secondary market to own one, but some folks like me buy and don't use them. Just for lookin at knives. Got about 180 so far. Not one a Axis lock. You explained it so well I will have to set my mind on that for my next purchase.
have had mine for 4 years and im in construction and this knife has got through hell and its stood stronge the handles are made out of 6061 T6 aircraft aluminum there not weak
@aimen91 I own both and love them both. But If I had to choose, I'd go with the Alias. The quality and strength is top notch and feels great in hand while in use. However, it is a lot more expensive (Alias: $230 / 940: $140) and harder to find these days. At that price, I still think it's a bargain comparing to the Sebenza. I also won a large Sebbie 21 and the Alias is almost up there in quality but just a bit shy in fit n finish. If money is not an issue, I'd recommend the Alias 1 over the 940.
@Seppl88 no its not, seppl its not, if youve ever had a expensive liner-lock youll see it blows away pretty much everything except a framelock..but essentially its the same thing...
I used to have one of those years ago. Lost it, but it was a wonderful knife. Really loved it. The one problem, it was a little finicky. I took it to the lake once, and I didn't drop it or anything, but it took about 1 hour for it to pick up enough sand to make the axis lock start sticking.
Very little difference. Both are extremely high quality steels. To some extent it depends what you want it for. S30V tends to be superior for slicing and cutting, where as 154CM is better for fabric, rope, cord etc. S30V is a little more impact resistant but it's considerably harder to sharpen.
S30V is a bit more expensive though, so it's often seen as slightly more prestigious. They're both expensive though, and both are used by custom makers. I wouldn't let 154CM vs S30V dictate your choice.
You're Canadian if I am not mistaken, would you mind if i asked where you got that knife? I've been looking everywhere for a 940, love everything about it, a must have.
No problem, the liners are there for the axis-lock mechanism. The type of liners used and the thickness are for cost, balance, and corrosion resistance. The aluminum handles are plenty strong.
Sorry I didn't see the backlash to my comment until now. Wasn't intended to upset any one. Benchmade aluminum handles survive quite a lot of punishment overseas and you would be hard pressed to find one damaged to any degree.
You can pm me any questions on the knife if you have any.
that makes no sense! you mean just because people work hard you have to stop to criticize them? and stop telling them how to make the things right ore better?
im sure it was a lot of work for the nazi to build the KZ in germany! and im sure you have no respect for this!!! sorry for my bad english!
sure! but also "bagging on" is just a form of critic! and because its there, there must be a reason! maybe the "bagging person" just dont know how to criticize in a "good" way! i belive that the person who get the critic can see the thinks from more up and think about why there is critic and dont have so mush think about the form of these critic! sorry again for my bad english (try to be better)
I also have the newer version, albeit of the 943 which is the same only with a clip blade. I much prefer the polished blade on the older models but regardless they are excellent knifes. My only real complaint is the lack of jimping. It'd be nice if they updated the pocket clip to a polished devil tail one too. I don't think there's much out there in this size and price range that is better for EDC to be honest.
You can, but the construction of the 940/943 is a little thinner than the other knives. My griptilian feels beefier and stronger. The 940 series is more of a gentlemen type knife or light edc use. They are made from top notch materials though.
You sound like you have a Canadian accent :)

"I wonder does Ozzy Osbourne have one?"
That is seriously the most random comment I have ever seen here on youtube.
punksnotdead543 2 years ago
I'm sure if Ozzy Osbourne wants to cut something, he just hires someone to do it for him.

They don't use the liners because the aluminum isn't strong enough, try not to make assumptions in reviews or at least present them as such.

Fuck off and die. Quit bagging on people's reviews that they have worked so hard on.

This is good knife. I have the newer s30v version and the steel on that one is not as polished as yours. Its in my most frequently carried pile.

did you get that one used or have you just had it for a while?
I love that knife!
It is MUCH stronger than a liner lock.
I have put mine throught hard use.
