As a fan of this Musical, this is insulting. The actor is horrible. Who ever cast him should be barred from ever putting together a play in the future. Who ever Directed
him (probably his mom) should also be barred. I'm watching it as I type. The kid looks like he is about to vomit. I know I am.
Bah, ignore them. I think the growl works. I think the problem people are having with this is they hear an older man's voice coming out a of a young person. If you'd had a beard and you looked older, no one would look twice, I'm sure. Really, if you listen to it without looking at him, it's not weird.
Yeah man this character is too far out of your level man... if you just listen you sound like the cookie monster... then if you look it looks stupid cuz your way to small.. too young and to fake... dont do this again please unless you get a fat pad and atleast try and look older... but get rid of the annoying growl!

See that's where you are wrong. He, personally, may have made the choice to growl...but it's never been said that Tevye must do so. Normally (rightfully so), he has been played by one much older than this teenager, and many of those actors either already have a grovely voice, or can pull one off flawlessly. But if a 16 year old is going to play Tevye, they shouldn't do something that durastic to their voice. It sounds feigned and strenuous.
I never said it didn't sound forced. It's just part of most people's view of the character. Most people don't imagine Tevye with a clean voice. I do agree though, an older actor is more suitable for the part.
i always loved it when u sang this, i would always listen backstage and mouth the words/imagine what u were doing aka moving ur arms around like mad :P

In my experience, if you can do the jewish accent very well there's no need for any kind of gravelly voice tones, it just comes out.
