@KaggyFriggle Is it the mentality of the Doctor that makes it a different incarnation or is it just the fact that his body has regenerated that makes it a new incarncation?
I agree with David. It's probably not a good idea to allow his last moments as the Doctor to be so dark by using the dramatic bit when he says he doesn't want to go. What if he had just said something like "Well... time to go." It's just as simple and it gives it a sort of optimistic ending.
And then, bum, music over, Tennant removed from the screen, and Matt Smith is standing there with that slightly confused, impossible cute expression of his.
The breaking down doctor actually made me laugh xD I mean, if it had been in the episode i wouldve probably break down myself, but watching it here was just funny :P
The third doctor died of radiation, and that was very peace and quiet. And Nine absorbed the whole time vortex itself! And that energy didn't have to go anywhere.
This is the very first time his regeneration wrecks it's surroundings, and the only thing I can see that's significantly different from before is that he didn't want to change this time... And I found that logical. 0-o
But hopefully, we'll get some kind of explanation in the next episode. ^^
Rose did not want him to change when it looked like he was going to change in "Journey's End" I saw something went out of David Tennent in"Christmas Invasion".
I agree he really didn't want to go and he tried to hold it back but in the end it literally exploded out of him. There is a rumour that some of 10's personality bleeds through into the 11th Doctor for the first episode because of it. We'll have to see!
@Estetus Might also be because of the energy output. You know, the Doctor having kept the same face for a long time, an unfinished regeneration, plus the injuries are severe, plus he's getting older and strong - could have been too much for even the Tardis to hold it. I think Doctor suspected smth like that, he's send TARDIS drifting in space.
That's only a theory made by fans. It hasn't been stated anywhere by any reliable source that his violent regeneration was due to the radiation poisoning. In fact, he has died by that before without causing damages to his surroundings.
But what IS different with this particular regeneration is the fact that The Doctor for the first time states that he don't want to go.
I hope that Russel can explain it at some time. Or (even better) get it explained in an episode. =)
@Estetus I looked it up. It's because he spent so much time fighting it to see his past companions. So much so that it built up like shaking a can of fizzy drink. When it came to regenerating, it all exploded out of him like an explosion. Which wrecked the TARDIS and turned it into a steampunk crazy TARDIS. :)
@StealthRob1 Really? 0.o Well, it certainly makes sense. ^^ Especially after seeing "Death of the Doctor" where he says that he in fact visited all of his old companions, and not only the ones we got to see on screen.
@Estetus He absorbed all that radiation in the glass booth so when he regenerated he let out off of his own regeneration energy plus all of the radiation energy.
@rose17rose That's only fans speculating. For what I now they still haven't given an explanation to it. =/
And the radiation/regeneration energy theory seems a bit odd. The 3th doctor died of radiation without causing destruction to his environment. And the energy he releases when he regenerates have only been seen 2 times before, and back then it didn't appear to be destructive at all.
It could be a result of a mix between the 2 though. But once again, there's no official explanation. 0-o
@Estetus Regeneration has always been dangerous thats why people are standing away from it when it happens usualyy moving away, this I'd say was an amplified power due to many previous started and stopped ones like when shot by a dalek. And also the fact he is resisting it.
@Estetus I remember reading this... sorry I can't give you a source. But because he was literally holding in the regeneration, like stretching a rubber-band, the energy built and built until he literally exploded, holding it in until the last second until he burst, caused the energy to explode outwards and destroy the entire TARDIS.
@Estetus I read this somewhere... Because he was literally holding in the regeneration, like stretching a rubber-band, the energy built and built until he literally exploded, holding it in until the last second until he burst, caused the energy to explode outwards and destroy the entire TARDIS. He held it in for, what must have been days since he visited all of his assistants, and that must have REALLY built, especially since Time Lords are supposed to regenerate immediately.
@dalek35618 That seems to be the most logical explanation so far. I wonder if Stephen Moffat or Russel T Davis is ever gonna give a real reason for this though... I suppose it's just up to us fans to come up with a good explanation that satisfy our curiosity. ;)
@Estetus I think it's because the first time he had to regenerate, he put the regeneration energy into his hand in journeys end, remember? so the second one was EEEEPPPPIIIICCCC
@Estetus Think of it like this, Remember when the Ninth Doctor told Rose to stay away when he started Regeneration, he never said that with his other companions or warned them, Think it that every time he Regenerates, his regeneration gets stronger.
He should've gave one last Alons-y for his final line...

Tripping over a brick, haha. 10 did mention that he wouldn't want to go that way. I guess that's Davies' sentiment leaking into the script. ^^

Isn't David Tennant technically the 10th and 11th incarnation of the Doctor since he regenerated in Journey's End and he kept the same form?
MegaCaveboy 1 year ago
@MegaCaveboy No because he was the same person mentally.

They never mentions WHY his regeneration cause destruction to the TARDIS. 0-o
I'd like to think that it has to do with the fact that he's fighting it, and really didn't want to change this time...
Thank you for sharing this. ^^ It's really hard to find this confidential. Do you got part 3?

@Estetus i think its because him and the tardis are connected so when he regenerates the tardis regenerates
