The responses here are mostly out of confusion with sexual puritanism vis-a-vis pornography.
There's already a US federal level law against human trafficking... it's called kidnapping. So these students are being morons. This is a law enforcement issue and they should be trying to make it one by interviewing the FBI directors than that of people reading Playboy.

the book, and the film are not in combat towards pornography. the issue they present is that YES human trafficking is illegal however it is much more prevalent than many of us know or care to recognize.

the solution is not about research or what people think, it's about action. what you do determines who you are! do something not just an opinion.
First change the constitution to protect the victim no the criminal, including those from "Human Rights" people trying to protect the rapists and violators and pimps instead of the victims, you will be surprised how easy they can get away, since they are using the law to their favor.

Interesting how a good portion of the $ they are making is from american citizens who are paying to keep them alive.

@betahdanu I agree, this initiative seems like a good one on the surface, but it lacks depth and its results are hard to measure. One could see behind the "marketing" of this documentary and wonder if these kids just needed a reason to go on an international vacation while having many others financially support their "initiative".
No where in this video does it say that the Sex & Money initiative is sposored by a religious organization -and that matters when donations have been requested.

again, you're confused... the students already went on an international trip as part of their education - which they paid for themselves. This spawned the original book - which one should read before criticizing or pretending to understand. The current trip is all local via rv in the states. Their project is completely independent amongst the group. They have no ulterior motives other than to make an oft ignorant public aware of a major problem. Why is this so wrong of them?

You stated the students who traveled did so paying for their own trips, but you did not say that many of them actually asked their family, friends, and others for donations, which in turn they used to pay for their trips.

Yes, young people ask friends, family and others to help them pay for their education and travel. They also work, and save, and scrounge to make ends meet - and have fun in the process. But in fact many of them asked others around them to finance their vacation, which means they did not pay for it themselves.
That's manipulation of the truth -a very common mistake found in religious circles.

that's because many child slaves are forced into prostitution and pornography. YES there is a distinction between what can be seen in playboy and child trafficking, but the line is not so easily distinguished the farther one moves away from "mainstream" porn. Further, because in 49 states prostitution is illegal, many, many prostitutes are forced to work against their will.

I think you are confusing "capitalism" (free markets...voluntary peaceful exchanges) with criminal activity in which a person or group of people use force or fraud against others. Free markets are what is left over after you get rid of crime, fraud, coercion, force, pollution and other criminal acts.

My friend did not know what to do. We did look for the man and girl, but could not find them.
