The series is based on East and West. If you have seen the characters you will notice they are not Asian, except Zuko, who is played by Dev, who IS asian. Check the map. India is in Asia. So there is no reason for the other actors to be Asian. Green eyed Aang is obviously not meant top be Asian, nor are blue eyes Katara and Sakka. But objecting to an actor because he is Indian or White is racist. So maybe its best to stop making racist comments.

Guys chill the fuck out. If you've watched the interviews M. Night Shymalan is a devoted fan of Avatar and so is his family. Plus he is working with Mike and Bryan (the creators of Avatar) Very closely. They are going to be on the set with him. They've been giving him ideas, so there isn't much he can do wrong. No it's not. Anime is Japanese animation made by Japanese artists and organized by the Japanese. People make this mistake all the time but Avatar is NOT Anime. It is a Chinese based show created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and is an American media franchise. Although it has a great Asian influence (the creators were influenced by many Anime) and uses a similar color palette, it is not Anime. But the closest and best thing America has done to getting to Anime.
I always just called things that strongly used the Anime style Anime. This includes Teen Titans, The Boondocks and similar shows. I just call them "American Anime".

I hope they redub the actor's voices...I don't think Dante Basco looks like Zuko at all. This is going to be a tricky project--everybody has their own portrayl of the characters, which is why I think it's so great in animation-people get to decide for themselves what the cast looks like in real life. I don't know if m. night should do it because some stories can only be told through anime or cartoon whatever you want to consider it. I think that he should just leave it alone so it can remain one of the greatest shows. I just don't think there is any way to do it justice with a live action version.
Well, technically, there has to be quite a lot of Asians in it since the whole fire nation looks about as Asian as you can get.
Then again, the setting is basically the whole AtLAB world, so the ethnicity is going to be varied. I'm actually more worried they won't be able to find enough ethnic people to play the numerous cultures in the story.
But I have to disagree with you on the FN part: They really don't look very Asian. In fact, very few of the characters actually look Asian (this includes extras and supporting characters). I mean, yeah, they have black hair and the culture is obviously taken from ancient China and Japan, but look at their facial features (not just the eyes). Not very Asian...
But that's not saying most of the cast shouldn't be Asian!

Guys chill the fuck out. If you've watched the interviews M. Night Shymalan is a devoted fan of Avatar and so is his family. Plus he is working with Mike and Bryan (the creators of Avatar) Very closely. They are going to be on the set with him. They've been giving him ideas, so there isn't much he can do wrong. And the whole race thing, Avatar is a fictional world who is to say Aang is Asian, or Zuko is this. So judge the movie when it comes out. Jesus!!

Why do all the actors have to be Asian? none of the charictors in avatar look asian, to me at least. I mean, zuko's nose, katara's blue eyes, aang got eyes twice as big as his head! lol. im fine w/ asian actors, but why do they have to be?

Anime is a STYLE of animation. It can be made anywhere and still be considered anime.
It originated in Japan though, which is why it has the Engrish name that it does.

No it's not. Anime is Japanese animation made by Japanese artists and organized by the Japanese. People make this mistake all the time but Avatar is NOT Anime. It is a Chinese based show created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko and is an American media franchise. Although it has a great Asian influence (the creators were influenced by many Anime) and uses a similar color palette, it is not Anime. But the closest and best thing America has done to getting to Anime.

They should also use alot of China :D alot of East Asian areas have really nice places to match the show's settings, like the hills of Wu Long forest(book 3 last episode where Ozai battles Aang), theres alot of places like that in China, the mountains and everything in china should be like the air nomad areas

I'm scared for the film, because the series were so good, that for me a live-action film would only ruin my idea of avatar being perfect, I mean, it'd be a bit weird if everybody was lip-syncing and probably the actors don't really look like the characters from the anime (sorry, I meant amerime:P). Maybe it'll turn out good (god, I sure hope so!) but I don't think so. Btw, does anyone agree that Toph looks well..umm.. weird in this picture?

I hope they redub the actor's voices...I don't think Dante Basco looks like Zuko at all. This is going to be a tricky project--everybody has their own portrayl of the characters, which is why I think it's so great in animation-people get to decide for themselves what the cast looks like in real life. This movie might ruin the series. I hope for the best, but I'm terrified lol.

I don't know if m. night should do it because some stories can only be told through anime or cartoon whatever you want to consider it. I think that he should just leave it alone so it can remain one of the greatest shows. I just don't think there is any way to do it justice with a live action version.

Well, technically, there has to be quite a lot of Asians in it since the whole fire nation looks about as Asian as you can get.
Then again, the setting is basically the whole AtLAB world, so the ethnicity is going to be varied. I'm actually more worried they won't be able to find enough ethnic people to play the numerous cultures in the story.

But I have to disagree with you on the FN part: They really don't look very Asian. In fact, very few of the characters actually look Asian (this includes extras and supporting characters). I mean, yeah, they have black hair and the culture is obviously taken from ancient China and Japan, but look at their facial features (not just the eyes). Not very Asian...
But that's not saying most of the cast shouldn't be Asian!
