umm tamagotchi has been around way before digimon was around. they came out in the early 90's they are almost 18 years old now.

they started as little toys on keychains that you have to feed and take care of. they are nothing like digimon

As far as I know they actually came out November 23rd 1996, so they've been around for over 11 years.
