Thats awesome, I am retiring in 2 years and I plan on looking for a 29x frame and doing a 1941-47 harley......I hope to have the sucess you had......thanks for sharing.....hogr2~~
looks pretty nice....wish you would have done the walk around after you were done...like you did before but...looks like you done a good job... but i like the way it looked before too...lots of patena lol!
I dreaded whether you were going to keep the "patina", which is a restoration fad I don't appreciate since you're basically preserving the state of decay. It looks far better returned to its former glory.
Absolutely superb job. This is a proper American icon unlike the modern day HD's. Not enough video of the restored machine though. I am sure you sweated blood and tears of this one. Congratulations.
By restoring it, you destroyed it. Its just another museum piece now. Before, ti was a rare and wonderous treasure, a barn find. A barn find is priceless. A museum piece, mmm, no so much so. Before it was 100% original, you could step back in time just by looking at it. Now, its some kind of hideous Frankenstein mix of old and new. As if you dug up an Egyptian mummy, and started grafting on parts you scalped from the local morgue.
@cobrachoppergirl WTF? What he did was nothing short of miraculous, motorcycles are meant to be ridden, not shoved away rotting in a barn. the blood sweat and love that went into that restoration should be admired not belittled. In our low Quality, throw away society, most of the bikes sold today will be on a scrap heap in ten years, it is inspiring to see something that my grandfather might have ridden brought back to life. Someone famous once said "Those who can do... those who cant troll".
That is just way, way past wonderful. I'm no fan of HD's ( give me a Beezer or a Triumph any day) but what you've achieved there is an aesthetic and an engineering miracle. Every credit to you there, bud ! Ride safe...
It didn't run. It would not turn over. Pistons stuck. Had I tried to start it, I would have destroyed the engine. No original paint left. just rust. Total restoration only option.
I'm not really a Harley person but i admire a good restoration,i've done about 16 ,from basket case to fully restored,Triumph's mostly,a few B.S.A. an Ariel and a couple of Nortons.Like i said, good job.
@chek416 Patina and original paint are one thing. Total rust and rot are another. This bike needed to be brought back after 50 years in a barn. The original matching numbers out weighed the original rust. Thanks for the comment!
@biscaynenick Thanks for the comment! Yes America could very well be beyond restoration. It makes me sad too. Take a look at my Camillus Cutlery Memories you tube to see another industry that has died.
Thanks for the comment. The restoration took 2 years. As far as hours into it, I really don't know. What I do know is that it kept me busy, especially during the winter months.
I wish I had one all black no decals or pin striping. I love them clicklely click motosickles. JDH is my favorite Harley. I seen the best 1928 JDH restoration 100points in Floridia 1991. I pray boldly for an all black 29 JDH with a flxi hack when I get to heaven. Look out for the crazies! Twilight
Wow! Beautiful job!

It's quite moving to see such an obviously dead bike riding, breathing and spitting flames again when it may have just rotted away to nothing.
Good job there matey! you should be proud :-)
