You don't need a tux for the opera or symphony these days. A lot of opera houses don't even have a dress code anymore, though people still look nice. A suit works, but you'd fit in perfectly wearing just a jacket and tie with slacks. You can wear a tux if you want, but you'll be the only one.

I am comfortable with it and I don't really like dressing casually so I feel more comfortable dressed up.
