  • WHOA!!!!!Did you ever play a master class Lang Lang?? I've heard that he played the Hungarian Rhapsody, and I believe that you are good at piano, too. I think you played well. Thank you for sharing!!

  • AWESOME!

  • This guy is really good!

  • shit dude thats legit

  • 와 멋져요

  • derek wang? yuja's wang brother? i can say yes cause of your virtuosity!

  • But can he play some wicked jazz improv? Hahah.

  • Terrific virtuosity !!!!

  • he is in my class and he is annoyinggggg! but he is really good and he is wikid smartttt

  • Derek, you are amazing!!

  • Revisiting this amazing video!

  • No offence but honestly... he plays like a robot. Being told where to slow down and where to speed up doesnt mean you have "talent" I can see through it. Can you? It takes all the preliminary years of piano to get the technical part of piano down pat. From there you can slowly develop playing with emotion in the more difficult pieces. Hes obviously not old enough to know how to express "love" or "pain" or any other emotion. I mean LOOK at how he plays the final chord... =/ like WTF

  • u are better. PROBABLY

  • wow really!!! i think this is pretty damn good for an 11 year old kid

  • ARE YOU SERIOUSLY SAYING THAT?!? this kid is AMAZING! i've been playing piano for many many years and i have enough experience to tell you that this kid is GOOD. He does have talent! what other 9 year old can play this good? i bet he's better than you anyways........

  • There must be something wrong... These kids are not "normal"... they're aliens on the earth... god bless their talent...

  • all it takes is a 2 hours practice a day and a good teacher. but u have to start young and love it.

  • I'm not sure 2 hours practise a day are enough and I also hope he can find time to play too, I mean play games, not piano because you can't spend your childhood on a keyboard... it could be bad for his mental health...

  • i don't think it's bad for his mental health, it's actually good. people who play music do better in school. two hours is enough - i know because I play piano, that's all it takes because the brain needs rest. i m sure he has other activities because kids who excel in piano has many other hobbies.. many people wish they can play the piano, it's one the best hobby you can have in life..

  • Playing piano, as everything else is good until it's sustainable and it hasn't got to be an obsession. I play piano too and children like him are the ones who will probabily spent all their life for music and I'm sure that's the best activity they can ever do. But there's the risk he will live the life that someone else has planned for him and not for his choice. When I was 14 I didn't know what dedicate my life to, just imagine a 9-year-old children. PS. good at school doesnt' mean healthy

  • i am obsessed with the piano because I love it and it gives me great pleasure. I wouldn't spend my time worrying about kids who are talented and beyond their years. I am sure they will know what they are doing sooner if not later. I can't imagine myself not playing piano forever. I wish I had parents who want me to play piano as a kid, because by now I would have been more advanced! Music is always good for your health.. would you rather be on drugs and smoking crack? don't be so sad

  • OMG

  • You are a GREAT 9 year old pianist!!!

  • Good job - !

  • Very nice!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • I'm just taking another listen to this performance today! I think after all, that this playing is even better than I originally thought - certainly wouldn't be out of place in a top concert hall. Also my previous comments about your possibly being over-influenced by one recording was possibly a bit harsh! As a live performance you have produced something exceptional here! Well done. Looking forwards to hearing your other Videos!!

  • another yundi li is make from this song so far

  • I didn't realise you were only 9 y.o.! This is mature playing and would be expected of someone of around 15 with intentions of going on to study at a specialized Music College. You have a good idea of Chopin's Rubato but I am just wondering if you've based your interpretation on any one single performance of this work. Try perhaps to listen to different recordings to get more balance. Keep up the good work!

  • Bravo!!!

  • fabulous performance!!

  • That is wonderful!

  • Great job! No wonder you got 1st place! BTW, Charlie was 1st place last year in a younger group (but we're in NJ now). Too bad MMTA did not post audio of winners this year, glad that I found yours on YT.

  • Fantastic!

  • You are an awesome pianist!

  • hey i know some1 named derek wang who plays piano too! this is not him though

  • Amazing!
