ok, to get things strait i just want to say my family has never been drug addicts or anything like that. My parents are neil young fans, and i loved to sing. I still do sing once in a while. and nope not from texas. haha oh and i really had no clue what the song ment. but thank you for watching everyone(:
My brother died of a drug overdose (Needle) in 1989 when my sons were 3, 5, & 8 & I told all three of them exactly what happened . My middle son is now 26 & has never done drugs, never tasted booze or even had a single hit off a cigarette. What the hell do all of you mean it's stupid for a father to make his kids aware of the dangers of drug addiction? That is the one good that can come of a drug death. If young eyes can learn from it & avoid the same fate it's not entirely in vain.
I don't think this is inappropriate at all. Perhaps if more children were raised to know the ugly truth about drugs and other risky things, instead of being shielded from everything potentially disturbing, they would grow up knowing that these things are deadly, and just accept it as a given that you don't abuse drugs. Instead, they have everything hidden from them, and decide to find out for themselves what shooting up is like at 15!
that's a great cover of it. People who talk about how she shouldn't sing this, my dad used to sing spirit in the night and lost in the flood by bruce springsteen to help me sleep.
Excellent Job! great ol tune! It don't think it is a wrong choice. Children must be informed very young these days about what drug addiction will do. If you wait to long it's to late. It proves itslf over and over. :>)
I like it, babygirl... it's a song about not doing heroin so if you and your friends learn the lesson this way, trust me it's a lot better than learning it the other way. Loved your voice. Hope you still sing :)
It's hard being on the other side of addiction. You become addicted to addict and you spin down in that horrible downward spiral just as if you were addicted to the drugs. My mom was an addict most of my life and I loved her no matter what. No matter who came in my house or what I saw, smelled, or heard. Addiction is real and its everywhere and more common so dont be surprised if an 8 year old knows about addiction
beautiful. but so sad when you think about how there are eight year olds in this world who can really sing this and mean it.. its bad enough when weve seen these things but it breaks my heart to know that there are children out there who have seen as much and more than me i know from experience that the most damage is done to those who love the addict :( ive been on both ends and i have to say its harder to love an addict than to be one.
plus...the song is not a celebration of drugs....it's sarcasm & criticism....if the kiddo ever finds out what is the deal with this song it would be just fine anyway...btw...a kid singing neil young...BRING IT ON...much...MUCH better than singing to those jonas bros, miley whatever or packaged junk music.....totally
She has great harmony! When I was her age I knew what this song was about. Both parents were addicts. I wouldn't change a thing about my childhood. It made me who I am to today. This song is really deep for many people...
I totally agree with you. My mom was a junkie for most of my life and she's clean now going on 3 years. Most of my family were addicts that either died or got clean and i love this song cause every junkie is like a setting sun

@Pan3405 i disagree... i think it is an extremely powerful medium to teach kids about drugs... it is alot more personal than a text book or a curriculum based drug education program
i think parents should learn children to love life, love love, being less materialistic..give them the love and attention they need. That is the fundament on which one can prefent that a child uses drugs.. because there's no need to.. Let a child sing this song is wrong and a sign of bad taste!!
beautiful and get over yourselves peeps, a person is never too young to know about drugs and the lives it takes if you really wanna get serious about it :-)
She probably doesnt kno what it means to die but i sure did wheni was 8 having seen someone die. and knowing people who did drugs. I def. learned at a young age what kinda damage drugs can do. it wasnt by experience. but dont underestimate knowledge by age is all im sayn. however yes.. i think the parents are just like.. looky at my lil girl singing this awsome song.
This little girl sings pretty well for her age. Nevertheless, nothing she does makes me believe that she understands what it means to DIE, let alone by drug overdose. Or even what drugs are. I could of course be wrong. Maybe she is a little expert regarding death, dying, drugs, etc. (If she IS, she will probably require psychotherapy to grow up with anything resembling mental health.) If I'm NOT wrong, her parents, guardians or whoever are exploiting her.
get a life youre criticizing an eight year old for being an eight year old and why would you think youre supposed to believe this child knows what this is about? does everyone who ever sings a song have to know the real meaning? i guess nobody is allowed to sing nirvana songs then once again... in case you didnt catch it... GET A LIFE
it's nice to teach children music but does an 8 y.o. truly understand the meanings of the lyrics to this particular song? it's about booting heroine is'nt it?
Have we adults forgotten what it was like to be a kid? Kids are alot more aware than we give them credit for! I knew this song when i was 8 from my parents, and i understood it then. We all have different upbringings. Good for her and her daddy, it's better she understands this now, so she wont make the same mistakes like the ones Neil sung about. After all, she did say it was a true story and it's great that her parents are honest with her! Knowledge is power, right? You go Cierra and her dad!
Yes lets take the childhoods of today which are already being cut short, and make them even shorter. Brilliant idea. She can learn that when she's 13 not 8.
@MICKGROHL 13 is too late these days alot of my friends younger brothers and sisters are already taking drugs by that age... i think what theyre doing is spot on.
I play guitar and I have a daugther who is 8 as well... but it is out of question that she would sing that song... for now, she's simply too young and you need to understand that song to fully appreciate it.
agreed about a 8 year old should no be singing it, but you and I both know at least she is listening to good music unlike this jungle shit they play today. And who doesn't know what this song is about ?
@mrdube666 honestly, i totally disagree. the kid didnt know what she was singing about, so who cares? the kid was probably "ooh camera, i wanna sing!" who gives a shit.
it means he loves the addict and that closed-minded hicks won't understand because their heads are so far up... i think you get the picture here YES PEOPLE HAVE AN IDEA WHAT HES REALLY SAYING there should be an iq test before youre allowed to post a comment
@jankers2guitars look this is the little girl in that video but now im 13 i dont care wat the song is about but i like tht song and i dont no wat you mean soo shut up!!!!
Weird..i don't know what to make of that but i am leaning more towards finding it endearing than not..hmm..is it endearingly strange or strangely endearing??i think strangely endearing.
Whats on the B side of this performance, "Why don't we get drunk and screw"? Dads a Junkie alright...for McDonalds...Maybe the song should be "I see the biscuit and the damage done"
Weird. Really weird. The lyrics in the original are haunting, morose, heart-breaking. I'm sorry, but this is just not the showcase for a ten year old. It is just really strange that a song about heroin and personal loss would be picked as a showcase for a young girl. Totally bizarre.
This is just way too creeepy. How about "over the rainbow"??? This kids' never seen a needle and has no clue as to the Damage Done (Hope she never does)
come on people...its a great song..just because she probably (hopefully) doesnt have an understanding of the song doesnt make this any less kick ass...i love seeing young people into some neil..i thought it was great..loved it..keep on rockin..
Listening to her, you can almost hear what she'll sound like when she has a few more performances under her belt. She gets dad to be her backup band and she'll go far!
Yeah, that kind of messes with my head. A song about addiction, loss and death just kind of sucks the cuteness factor right out of the performance. Not judging mind you, just sayin'...
I hope she never has to live behind a cellar door and never has to see the needle and the damage done and her parents will get her on the right track. Nevertheless a nice performance.
rickbaults.. do you watch tv?! Have you seen the children (6-8 years old)in different warzones (Africa) wearing guns.. Telling the press about their ideals.. Do you really think that a child is aware of all the things he's saying? My God You are so naief!
I thinks it's pretty cool. These people should shut the hell up. Yea, this kid is eight, but the reality of this world is she eventually know what heroin is. It's better to teach her and let her know what effect what substance abuse is and why not to do it. People who do drugs had parents that didn't teach them the true dangers of drugs.
Go girl go. This song is about he realities of drug addiction and every child will face the option at one point in their lives. Maybe this will ring in her mind and it will remind her of the damge doen.
It is a little weird having a little girl sing this song, but considering it's an anti drug song i guess its ok. Now if they had her sing something like White Rabbit I would be concerned.
Dear kingaamdog.. luckely we don't have the same huge problems you have in your country! So I don't have to blame anyone! In fact our economy is growing faster than any other country in Europe! About: Wilders Probably your press didn't mension the fact that most of the dutch totally disagree with this person and his movie. The problem is that we have the freedom of speech, so we "must" allow the making of these kind of movies whether we agree or not!
U don't think you understood when I said I live in Holland, and if you think that you are the only country with "Freedom of Speech" then you are very wrong. But there are limitations.
Back to the point its sad that you don't think this is suitable for children, considering that children now a days are growing up with violence we should not avoid it, being it part of our life today, but teach them about it so they are aware.
ok this proves again that many amercan are fools and have no sense of dignity and style!! You don't let your kid sing these kind of songs and No!!! It isn't cute! For god sake!
Who said this was supposed to be cute? I think it's good that clearly these parents have an open relationship with their child and dont feel the need for cowardice when confronting reality.
Pan4305, I myself am American and Dutch (i noticed that is where you are from) and for one second you can talk about America in any bad way you have an other thing coming. I've lived in Holland for 5 years now and all i've noticed is that Dutch parents are the worst. They allow their children to Smoke / Drink and have no control over what they do. Every day i see broken glass from Bus Stops. And no, i dont live in a Ghetto, but it seems like I do. Police dont even have control in Holland...
Give me a break for God sake! Be ashamed of having a president like Bush! There is more drugs abuse in the US than in any other place in the world, The USA have to deal with the most murders in a no war situation, using more energy then any other western society, the most cases of abortus, they're such a hypo.. and now they lead the world economy into a downfall because the lack of dignity in doing business! Don't lecture us please! The Americans aren't that good!
Well it was a smart move to invest all your money into the US. You are a typical Dutch person. Very ignorant and blame everyone else for your own problems. Holland is 20 years behind the US, politics are allowed to make movies that included a lot of racism (Fitna). Fitna is a lot of bull shit. And yet you are still allowed to make a movie about it? I understand freedom of speech, but there are limitation. And you are calling us hypocrites?
Also to base your opinion on one person (Bush) is a big mistake. I could do that same and say all dutch person are just as Wilders... I hope soon you opens your eyes and look around you and see how corrupt The Netherlands is, and im not saying America isn't, far from it but it is very typical that a Dutch person would not notice anything that is happening around them... And for you to judge America on this
Great job to you both-Dad, what an honor to have such a talented old soul as your daughter/friend - Singer, how beautiful to feel the soul in the music enough to express it so well. It is a true story and that is why it is so beautiful. To find beauty & honesty in life is an important lesson for us all.
AMAZING! This touched me in many ways~ i have a friend highly addicted and i have kids he loves...maybe if he sees this, it will change his way of thinking...thank you! You're a beautiful singer lil one!
Zork, saying this is about Danny Whitten is ALL WRONG. This song was written before he died, buy Neil's Live at Massey Hall, performed in 1971, he talks before this song and says it is about musicians who died from heroin, but NOT DANNY WHITTEN, Neil's album from 1975 Tonight's the Night was dedicated to Danny.
amazing job... so adorable. I did a cover of this song too if anyone wants to check it out. Either click my name or paste the link above: watch?v=Oghxgw_25DY
"He was too out of it. Too far gone. I had to tell him to go back to L.A. 'It's not happening, man. You're not together enough.' He just said, 'I've got nowhere else to go, man. How am I gonna tell my friends?' And he split. That night the coroner called me from L.A. and told me he'd ODed. That blew my mind. Fucking blew my mind. I loved Danny. I felt responsible."
"Danny Whitten could not function due to drug abuse. On November 18, 1972, shortly after he was fired from the tour preparations, Whitten was found dead of an overdose....(cont)
Great to see Dad and his daughter singing this classic Neil Young,ok Dad's guitar is slightly out of tune but im very certain the child had the lyrics explained to her,a touching song and a touching video, great stuff.

rickbaults.. do you watch tv?! Have you seen the children (6-8 years old)in different warzones (Africa) wearing guns.. Telling the press about their ideals.. Do you really think that a child is aware of all the things he's saying? My God You are so naief!
Pan3405 3 years ago
I thinks it's pretty cool. These people should shut the hell up. Yea, this kid is eight, but the reality of this world is she eventually know what heroin is. It's better to teach her and let her know what effect what substance abuse is and why not to do it. People who do drugs had parents that didn't teach them the true dangers of drugs.

8 year old ?...heroin song ? BAD MOVE !
brickmann2002 3 years ago
if she was singing clapton's cocaine that might be a bad move but little kids sing anti drug songs all the time.
InKa4484 3 years ago
Go girl go. This song is about he realities of drug addiction and every child will face the option at one point in their lives. Maybe this will ring in her mind and it will remind her of the damge doen.

Thats cute
samuel588 3 years ago
It is a little weird having a little girl sing this song, but considering it's an anti drug song i guess its ok. Now if they had her sing something like White Rabbit I would be concerned.
Hogratius 3 years ago 3
Why is a little child singing this?
The song is about heroin overdose.
Praps the daddy thought it would be cute to post on youtube...but I think it's gross.

Pan3405 3 years ago 2
U don't think you understood when I said I live in Holland, and if you think that you are the only country with "Freedom of Speech" then you are very wrong. But there are limitations.
Back to the point its sad that you don't think this is suitable for children, considering that children now a days are growing up with violence we should not avoid it, being it part of our life today, but teach them about it so they are aware.
Kingaamdog 3 years ago
Cute, poor girl probably doesn't know this songs meaning though:)

that voice makes me want to bang my head against the wall.
for fuck sake people who think this is cute maybe but think about this, its a mockery to everything neil young wrote about in this song.
JamesTaylor10 3 years ago
You are absolutely correct James. I don't think Neil would approve of this at all!!!
OneHadASorrow 3 years ago 2
ok this proves again that many amercan are fools and have no sense of dignity and style!! You don't let your kid sing these kind of songs and No!!! It isn't cute! For god sake!
Pan3405 3 years ago

Kingaamdog 3 years ago
Give me a break for God sake! Be ashamed of having a president like Bush! There is more drugs abuse in the US than in any other place in the world, The USA have to deal with the most murders in a no war situation, using more energy then any other western society, the most cases of abortus, they're such a hypo.. and now they lead the world economy into a downfall because the lack of dignity in doing business! Don't lecture us please! The Americans aren't that good!
Pan3405 3 years ago 2
Well it was a smart move to invest all your money into the US. You are a typical Dutch person. Very ignorant and blame everyone else for your own problems. Holland is 20 years behind the US, politics are allowed to make movies that included a lot of racism (Fitna). Fitna is a lot of bull shit. And yet you are still allowed to make a movie about it? I understand freedom of speech, but there are limitation. And you are calling us hypocrites?
Kingaamdog 3 years ago
