why am i having trouble understanding what faith is....how to exercise faith..let me ask this....is faith believing n God and his promise's....is it confident n God...is it just having a positive attitude?????
There are also many people who think they know what faith is, but in reality, have a misunderstanding of what it truely is.
Jesus makes it very clear that it is something that can be conciously nurtured. Unfortunately, it is also something that it's growth can be stunted, or worse, destroyed.
A mustard plant begins as a seed, then grows roots, and finnally gowths into a large bush, or shrub.
Scripture tells us that Jesus could only perform minor miracles in his hometown because their faith was small.
Faith then, is an essential part of christianity. We need it to enjoy the greatest amount of benefits in this world, but also, it is needed to walk the narrow path that leads to the kingdom. For with out faith, we will never stay on the path.
It takes great faith to endure persecution.
Eph 6 speaks of the armor of God, which includes the shield of faith.
So faith is also a defensive weapon against satan. Without faith, we are easy pickins for satan.
Heb 11:6 tells us that it is impossible to please God without faith.
And in the book of James we are told that faith without works is dead.
This affirms Christs teaching to his disciples when they asked about faith. For he said we must be working the fields, must feed our master, and not expect anything in return.
When we exercise our bodies get stronger. Lack of it causes us to weaken and be less effective physically. The same with faith. The more we exercise it by living a proper Christian lifestyle the stronger it gets. Fall away from it and our faith becomes weak.
I like the comment. It is, I believe, very close to what Jesus was saying in Luke 17. By doing Gods work (tending the fields and flocks) and worshiping the Lord (feeding) we are excercising our faith. But when we do nothing (as does a warm Christian) then our faith dwindles.
Good video my friend and a good question. I don't doubt anything you said, I believe it comes from a combination of unwavering trust, belief and for unselfish reasons. I think we can only fully understand faith and hold on to it by knowing the word of God, we must be able to bring to mind the things of God to prevent Satan putting doubt in our minds:
Rom 10:17 So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
I did a search here on Utube for the words "faith", and "increasing faith". I was surprised to find virtually nothing pertaining to Christian faith as to how to increase it. When I used to own a TV I noticed there was nothing practical on the subject found there either, nor in the form of sermons I heard in church. I find this very odd since faith is the basis of Christiananity and which salvation is dependant on.
Absolutely my friend, I do believe though that your faith increases as you get to know your Bible better and apply those things in your life, if we know something and yet fail to apply it, we cannot really believe that to be true and therefore lack faith. A big part of faith is obedience, seeing as it was disobedience that seperated us in the first place, we must be willing to believe and then to obey, if we say we believe but don't obey, how can we say we have faith?

Read the word, fellowship with others in the body, kill my flesh daily- that I be all I can be in Jesus.
Dress daily in the full armor of Jesus- to withstand the fiery darts of the enemy.
Fellowship with the Holy Spirit within me is my greatest encouragement and assurance in my walk in Jesus.
Being sensitive to presence and work of the Lord; in my life and the lives of others.
Looking back- I see His work in my life; generating hope in Him for tomorrow.
Jesus is the True Living God.

You also mentioned action, this is so true, how can you proclaim something without backing it up:
Jas 1:22 But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
Jas 2:18 Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.
Your actions will certainly determine your faith.
God bless!
