My biggest gripe with anime is that It has no creativity. I couldn't tell 1 anime "artist" out of a 100 because they all go by a formula as to how something should look, rather than coming up with their own art-style. I don't think that you could get away with that in the west, copying someone's art style over here would earn you no fans. In the west, we value creativity and unique ideas over a someone elses idea, that will only make money off of ronerey, deluded, otakus.

@SerratedXx also the manga style isnt lazy when it comes to manga....for them its an integrated part of culture taught in many colleges and universities and used in corperate business presentations....we dont have this in the west and so it hasnt developed. i also notice the western comic style is rediculously bad with poses and perspective compared to manga....i will gladly guide you too examples of good western comic art Vs Japenese comic art.

The reason that they copy each other is because they know that they will make money if they draw in the typical; " over-sized eyes, androgynous, underaged, strange hair color, small-bodied-with-huge-breasts, fancy-kawii " style that everyone else does. I love american cartoons, only the old ones that I grew up with(EX: Recess, Doug). But anime as of now is may favorite because I hate the "sick" comedy, or crap childish generic american shows(south park, family guy, and now unsupervised). But I'm still looking for a good american animated show. Maybe one day, I'll find a good american animated show that I will like. And anime haters should do the same, keep searching through anime till you find one series that you might like.

How many anime episodes are filler that have nothing to do with the storyline? From what ive seen of anime, it can take like 5 episodes for a fight scene to start, while characters stare at each other, having flashbacks and discussing the next technique theyre going to use. They use less effort, make more episodes, more money.

Every anime has exaggerated expressions from their characters all the time which look ridiculous and unrealistic. Most anime's have people trip for no apparent rerason, as if it's humorous which is not. And every anime always has a sense of destiny with the main character which makes it very repetitive and boring. Also, I am not an anime-hater.

Although not said in the video clearly anime also includes very realistic looking characters that resemble real people (lacking big eyes and such), which I have yet to see out of the west outside of religious/educational cartoons. (quoting uploader) This I have to disagree with. Characters looked much more realistic on cartoon shows way back in the 70s or so. Scooby Doo, G.I. Joe, and Spiderman (actually, early 90s Spiderman) were all more realistic carttons from America.

You can give whatever reason you want for the fewer number of frames, but that doesn't make the animation quality any better. Anime has detail down, no doubt, especially the background, but it isn't animated. They need to cut costs. That's a cool story and all, but it still sucks. Regardless of detail or content of the animation, American cartoons have superior animation because they are animated more fluidly and far more often. I like the 60's marvel cartoons, but the animation quality sucks.
@kiybro To be fair, it's not the studio's fault that they've got a piss poor budget to work with, perhaps if they had a larger budget we might see more fluid animation, most of it is also hand drawn as well, which is labour intensive and makes it harder to work within a deadline AND keep the quality top notch, whereas some American cartoons to my knowledge are flash animated, also Akira is an example of how smooth Anime can be and stay highly detailed simultaneously.
I find that I like american better because it is mindless humour great for everyday americans like me who would rather take a nap than try to figure out what anime is trying to do to my mind. I like movies more than anything especially millitary movies particullarly about snipers. And all you people who think japanese video games are better than american you have never played black ops. Anime many times create most cheesy/cliche plots ever. It's usually some pathetic guy getting all the popular chicks at the same time beacuse of one little nice thing he did to each of them. Or theres one guy losing a fight thats next impossible but some how overcomes the situation because of one huge emotional discharge that makes them invincible in that battle. Not that every anime is like this, but there are so many titles that are mediocre. Many genres but little variety in characters.

Anime is NOT the highest quality animation. If you were yourself an animator, you would know why. From a technical standpoint, anime lacks greatly what American, French, German and any other country's animation has, and that's just basic shit. Look at ONE anime and tell me that people aren't just fucking standing still sometimes, with only their mouths moving. Anime has an advantage in illustration , NOT animation. There is a difference, and you need to realize that.

Great topic. I used to watch cartoons all the time and thought they were the greatest thing ever until I turned 8 and found Toonami. From there I aw shows I never thought were possible. Amazing stories, excellent character development, etc. I dont really watch cartoons anymore, anime is just better imo After watching Yu Yu Hakusho I was like WOW!!!

Although not said in the video clearly anime also includes very realistic looking characters that resemble real people (lacking big eyes and such), which I have yet to see out of the west outside of religious/educational cartoons. (quoting uploader) This I have to disagree with. Characters looked much more realistic on cartoon shows way back in the 70s or so. Scooby Doo, G.I. Joe, and Spiderman (actually, early 90s Spiderman) were all more realistic carttons from America.

Another thing is that I think is that most cartoons and stuff in western areas are mostly directed towards kids as opposed to anime that is for all ages in Japan and such. You can give whatever reason you want for the fewer number of frames, but that doesn't make the animation quality any better. Anime has detail down, no doubt, especially the background, but it isn't animated. They need to cut costs. That's a cool story and all, but it still sucks. Regardless of detail or content of the animation, American cartoons have superior animation because they are animated more fluidly and far more often. I like the 60's marvel cartoons, but the animation quality sucks.

@kiybro To be fair, it's not the studio's fault that they've got a piss poor budget to work with, perhaps if they had a larger budget we might see more fluid animation, most of it is also hand drawn as well, which is labour intensive and makes it harder to work within a deadline AND keep the quality top notch, whereas some American cartoons to my knowledge are flash animated, also Akira is an example of how smooth Anime can be and stay highly detailed simultaneously.

Anime many times create most cheesy/cliche plots ever. It's usually some pathetic guy getting all the popular chicks at the same time beacuse of one little nice thing he did to each of them. Or theres one guy losing a fight thats next impossible but some how overcomes the situation because of one huge emotional discharge that makes them invincible in that battle. Not that every anime is like this, but there are so many titles that are mediocre. Many genres but little variety in characters.

Listen, I was raised to not watch Pokemon, yugioh,and all the other anime shows,but the real reason i didnt watch them was because i had no idea what the heck was going on half the time. When my friends were into anime, they all sort of left me when they were talking about digimon. I even rented the first season of pokemon to find out was happening... I didnt understand the first episode, i dont like anime because,they dont make since,and the pictures are so wierd. Have a nice day.

Anime is NOT the highest quality animation. If you were yourself an animator, you would know why. From a technical standpoint, anime lacks greatly what American, French, German and any other country's animation has, and that's just basic shit. Look at ONE anime and tell me that people aren't just fucking standing still sometimes, with only their mouths moving. Anime has an advantage in illustration , NOT animation. There is a difference, and you need to realize that.

@tomichanXD Agreed, there are very few anime that can beat out any kind of American animation. I said ANIMATION not artwork, which anime are superior in. I can think of very few anime that have animation better than American work, like FLCL.

Are you an animator yourself? Really, standing still? Well most of the animes are normal and not wierd shit full of nothing but action. And let me tell you I know how animation works. Why did Halo Legends get Japaneses to animate it when it's an American thing? That's obvious right? If you are an animator, you should know how fucking hard animation is in anime and that shit about just standing still isn't true.

Great topic. I used to watch cartoons all the time and thought they were the greatest thing ever until I turned 8 and found Toonami. From there I aw shows I never thought were possible. Amazing stories, excellent character development, etc. I dont really watch cartoons anymore, anime is just better imo After watching Yu Yu Hakusho I was like WOW!!!
