dropshoting is what people do to win gunfights. In call of duty 4 the dropshot is one of the best ways to win a close-mid to close range gunfight. and who are these so called people that get by fine? i garuntee there is not a single top 50 team that does not drop shot.

Here's the real stats. Both the MP5 and the AK-74u have a ROF of 800 RPM and the same damage of 40 up close and 20 at a distance. The Ak-74u however has deeper bullet penetration (Its the same as an assault rifle). The AK-74u has coded into the game that it loses hipfire accuracy when a red dot or silencer is added so a 74u with an attachment is inferior to an MP5. They're equal when the 74 has no attachments. As for recoil the AK goes straight up more the MP5 goes side to side more.
