Odd, the drummer and the lead singer look so much alike. Sibs? Or are they the same person with a different wig? Actually, she is hot in an otherworldly sort of way. Quite a pioneer to drum way back then, really good too.... it drives the song much more than others.
Lost my first true love in 1969 met her in 1967 so after nearly 3yrs of bliss i called it off, it was the worst thing ive ever done in my life, i'm 58 now and i'm so glad ive got music like this & all the 1960s music to look back on it was a fantastic decade...
What I can't understand is there is a female drummer on this, which did surprise me, and yet being part of the British Invasion no one knows who she is. I think that sucks.
Great song...and omg shindig! Memories of sitting with my 3 sisters each episode..neibors would come over and we would all be up and dancing...great days!Kate
I was 15 then I saw this show on TV. There will never be another time in music like there was then. Everyday brought new tunes that have lived throught the ages. I was magical.
One of the greatest songs ever!!! Even after all these yrs!
Loved it back in '64 and still love it today.....that is staying power!
(And I don't even like 'old' songs!) But this one ROCKSSSSSSS for all time!!!!!!! Just like Queen, another phenomenal bit of magic that will never get old....
I can remember watching the Honeycombs on TV cira 1964 aged only four. I was fasinated by the beat and of course the drummer Honey Lantree. My mother told me she was winking at me which pleased me no end!
Unfortunately, this great song wasn't played enough in the So. California area. It was one of my favorites from the British invasion. Heard it on Shindig and although it was lip-synced it still is one of the most energetic and inspired performances in Rock and Roll. God bless the Brits and their hot bands of the 1960s!!
@VictoriaGrimalkin Amen to that..those were some real rocking times..I was 7 when this song came out! The British invasion brought some fantastic songs with them.K
Magnificent sixties tune that stands the test of time remarkably well. Upbeat,, totally banging and brilliantly performed. It definately deserves to be remembered above many others of its time.
What a HOOT, see how they stamp their feet, read up on it, there were microphones in the stands built for them to stand on, stomp the feet and away you go!!!!
I remember when I first saw this on Top of the pops as a youngster and being overawed at the band having a female drummer. She was my hero for ages lol
@m1kewithaone.....Ya, you've got me on that one! All the more proof of what a real treasure this is! And, get this, I've become the biggest Queen fan ever! OMG! All their songs are phenomenal gems! I missed them in their heyday, but, making up for lost time.
But, in general, I don't care for songs that sound old and dated. But this one sounds absolutely fabulous!! And still makes me smile. It's just a super great song!! One of the best!
@FREDDIEMANIAC well, i still can only understand half of what you are saying. but that's ok. the part i do understand is this song really turns you on. i understand how a paticular song can do that to someone. for instance "doot doot" by fruer is in my all time top 5, but i haven't found even one other person yet, who even likes it!! lol, amazing. oh, shear hart attack album is my favorite by queen. and diamond dogs is my fav. by david bowie. and if you like queen you'll probably liike paris.
@mznanbme yes it was. I get kids all the time wanting to know what those days with the beatles ,british invasion of america, and the rest of the sixties were like. and theirs just is no way to tell the story and do it justice. you really did have to be there to experience the magic.
@TheBabyboomkidof53 ok, so if you are 53 now, that would make you 7 when you saw it, and that would make me 10. and that can't be, because i was in japan then and we didn't have tv. so i was 9 and you must have been 6. ok, but i was only 3 when i saw rawhide, which would make you a 0. you weren't born yet dude, oh look! los bravos did black is black!! i was just asking somebody about that!!
Wonderful loud upfront banging tune from the period. Nothing soft about this. And of cause they had the immortal Honey Lantree on drums. As far as I can recall no other girl of her era played an instrument in a band with boys. Definately unique.
