  • am i the only person that thinks foster the people try to get that Joe Meek sound ?

  • omg..!

  • Miming she's missing that cymbal by a mile but a great song

  • Great music she is an awesome drummer

  • I feel sorry for the dorky, cokebottle glass dude..

  • This was the first single I ever bought at the ripe old age of 8, still as good today as it was all those years ago.

  • awesome way of play drums.

  • Honey influenced later women drummers like Mo Tucker and Karen Carpenter

  • dig the drummers hair

  • come right back i just cant stand it... AAHHHHHH come right back!

  • one of if not the first band to have a female drummer

  • Odd, the drummer and the lead singer look so much alike. Sibs? Or are they the same person with a different wig? Actually, she is hot in an otherworldly sort of way. Quite a pioneer to drum way back then, really good too.... it drives the song much more than others.

  • @lancekoz The drummer is actually the bass player's sister.

  • I Watch This Over & Over Just To See "HoneY" on The Drums!!

Dam, What A "Hot" Woman.....And A Hell Of A Drummer!

  • Lost my first true love in 1969 met her in 1967 so after nearly 3yrs of bliss i called it off, it was the worst thing ive ever done in my life, i'm 58 now and i'm so glad ive got music like this & all the 1960s music to look back on it was a fantastic decade...

  • What I can't understand is there is a female drummer on this, which did surprise me, and yet being part of the British Invasion no one knows who she is. I think that sucks.

  • @StanBennet

The drummer was Honey Lantree (born Ann Margot Lantree, 28 August 1943) from Hayes, Middlesex, England. She also did backup vocals...

  • @pop2rock2country what, do you really want an answer? it was a sign of the times. simple as that.

  • Vox syntheses in the background

  • The ultimate Garage Rock sound! Three guitars and drums--and a pulse. F-a-b-u-l-o-u-s!

  • Great song recorded by Joe Meek. The New Honeycombes are keepin' the music alive & touring UK with Vanity Fare 2011

  • so glad to see this clip so hard to find

  • Great song...and omg shindig! Memories of sitting with my 3 sisters each episode..neibors would come over and we would all be up and dancing...great days!Kate

  • A band that featured a woman playing drums. Back then that was as rare as Hens' teeth.

  • I wonder how long the drummer sat under the hairdryer to get that doo......

  • The worst haircut in R and R history!

  • I love this older stuff..grew up on all this..and Motown...Thanks for the video and great song..Kate

  • great drummer.

  • how keen, a girl drummer

  • Wow, the drummer kicked ass and was female. You go girl!

  • music to my ears, can't remember where I was brings back innocent beautiful times, wish them back every day.

  • I was 15 then I saw this show on TV. There will never be another time in music like there was then. Everyday brought new tunes that have lived throught the ages. I was magical.

  • @intergrationdude u were magical wer u? smug bastard

  • That lady playing the drums resembles Penny Marshall ...

  • Get a life , i play the drums and if i say so myself i'm pretty good !!! Brill tune

  • a women has no place playing the drums, sorry their it is

  • @rabbithog I know a few women who play kick ass drums...your funny...K

  • I <3 THIS SONG AS 13 YEAR OLD GIRL FROM CALIFORNIA :D

    <3

  • I wish I was alive in these times, definately born in the wrong era!

  • i was 16 in 64 honey lantree girl drummer all the lads loved her the same year that top of the pops made its debut golden times in our youth

  • One of the greatest songs ever!!! Even after all these yrs!

Loved it back in '64 and still love it today.....that is staying power!

(And I don't even like 'old' songs!) But this one ROCKSSSSSSS for all time!!!!!!! Just like Queen, another phenomenal bit of magic that will never get old....

  • Hot Chick banging on the Drum Kit! Never again.:-(

    Great Song!!

  • Who's the girl drummer? Cool song and music and band for a minute.

  • Honey Lantree

  • Did the following groups ever appear on Shindig: The Cowsills, The Cake, Honey Ltd., Ace Of Cups?!?

  • is that ricky tomlinson on the far left !....my arse..

  • I can remember watching the Honeycombs on TV cira 1964 aged only four. I was fasinated by the beat and of course the drummer Honey Lantree. My mother told me she was winking at me which pleased me no end!

  • Unfortunately, this great song wasn't played enough in the So. California area. It was one of my favorites from the British invasion. Heard it on Shindig and although it was lip-synced it still is one of the most energetic and inspired performances in Rock and Roll. God bless the Brits and their hot bands of the 1960s!!

  • @VictoriaGrimalkin Amen to that..those were some real rocking times..I was 7 when this song came out! The British invasion brought some fantastic songs with them.K

  • How can anyone sit still listening to this? Great, bouncy feelings!

  • i with my mom and dad on manhattan beach in brooklyn ny..the summer of 1964..still feel the sun on my face, smell the hot dogs..the salt water...

  • waaaaaaaaaaaaYYYYYYY AHEAD OF THERE TIME.kicks ass in its own way.

  • girl on drums....today's music sucks

  • Great song. Great quality.

  • that's a woman ! the Honey of the Honeycombs

  • See the guy on the drums he was drum sinking it was fairly clear.

  • Magnificent sixties tune that stands the test of time remarkably well. Upbeat,, totally banging and brilliantly performed. It definately deserves to be remembered above many others of its time.

  • I like this band, their music sounds like it could be a soundtrack to the Thunderbirds Ar Go!!!!

  • I've loved this from the very start... oh yeah...

  • What a HOOT, see how they stamp their feet, read up on it, there were microphones in the stands built for them to stand on, stomp the feet and away you go!!!!

  • I remember when I first saw this on Top of the pops as a youngster and being overawed at the band having a female drummer. She was my hero for ages lol

  • honey lantree is" the most beautifull girl in the world "(The silver fox -R.I.P)

  • 1964 to 1965 to 1966 to 1967 it's like 400 years not 4!!

  • One of the greatest songs ever......Still.....and I don't even like old music! But this one is as vibrant and fantastic today as it was back then.

    What a great, GREAT song!!

Still brings a smile and just makes me happy! :)

    LOVE IT!!! :)

  • @FREDDIEMANIAC but you don't like old music.... hold on, i'm trying to get my mind around what you just said...

  • @m1kewithaone.....Ya, you've got me on that one! All the more proof of what a real treasure this is! And, get this, I've become the biggest Queen fan ever! OMG! All their songs are phenomenal gems! I missed them in their heyday, but, making up for lost time.

But, in general, I don't care for songs that sound old and dated. But this one sounds absolutely fabulous!! And still makes me smile. It's just a super great song!! One of the best!

  • @FREDDIEMANIAC well, i still can only understand half of what you are saying. but that's ok. the part i do understand is this song really turns you on. i understand how a paticular song can do that to someone. for instance "doot doot" by fruer is in my all time top 5, but i haven't found even one other person yet, who even likes it!! lol, amazing. oh, shear hart attack album is my favorite by queen. and diamond dogs is my fav. by david bowie. and if you like queen you'll probably liike paris.

  • @Bellacolor28 right on

  • I remember watching shindig that night 46 years ago. still a great sound.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 : me too. Wasn't it fun?

  • @mznanbme yes it was. I get kids all the time wanting to know what those days with the beatles ,british invasion of america, and the rest of the sixties were like. and theirs just is no way to tell the story and do it justice. you really did have to be there to experience the magic.

  • @TheBabyboomkidof53 ok, so if you are 53 now, that would make you 7 when you saw it, and that would make me 10. and that can't be, because i was in japan then and we didn't have tv. so i was 9 and you must have been 6. ok, but i was only 3 when i saw rawhide, which would make you a 0. you weren't born yet dude, oh look! los bravos did black is black!! i was just asking somebody about that!!

  • @m1kewithaone I dont know where you get your math. I'm 58 born in 53. I was eleven and a half when this aired in the fall of 64....."dude".

  • Wonderful loud upfront banging tune from the period. Nothing soft about this. And of cause they had the immortal Honey Lantree on drums. As far as I can recall no other girl of her era played an instrument in a band with boys. Definately unique.

  • THis is so great Thank you.

Jimmy Onele The Star of Shindig The One Time Husband of Sharon Shealey. The Last Great Name DJ on KRLA Before Art Laboe Took KRLA to an all time Low With DISCO GANG BANGER

EVERYONE IN LOS ANGELES CALIFORNIA SAVE KRTH IT IS GOING THE SAME BAD THING AS KRLA TOO MUCH DISCO AND DOCTOR OFFICE MUSIC CBS WAKE UP

  • @CANARVONKID ,,,its playback -you can't hit the skins and the guitars aren't plugged in,,,no wireless in those days ;)

  • @benelectro100 Yes I know that!

It's just that the band looks one step away from looking like puppets!

  • @CANARVONKID but highly grooooooovy!

  • @CANARVONKID

What's your fucking point then ?

You could never hope to be even in a "fly by night"band.

    I wish I had been in a 6T's "fly by night"{ band

The sixties were full of brilliant "fly by night"bands, they couldn't be all Beatles or Stones.

  • @PAULLONDEN I have already made my point I thought.

Can't help it if you are slow on the pick up!

    Try reading it slower!

  • @PAULLONDEN

You and me both brother! I couldn't have said it better. Nothing will ever equal the sixties music era.

Bring the sixties back, down with rap crap.

  • Great song. Pity about the quality :( What's wrong with rap? Not a big fan of monotonous beats, electronic instruments and speaking the words? Me either!!

  • goosebumps at the chorus...

  • The guy on the far left is Ernie from My Three Sons.

  • @jazzysnaps rrrrrright......try Honey Lantree LOL

  • @jazzysnaps

    it's Honey Lantree

  • Awesome song and love the drummer. Honey Lantree (the drummer) reminds me of today's Meg White from the White Stripes.

  • the honeycombs sounds like a Dave Clark Five minus Mike Smith& a third guitarist

  • this is what you call music.

got everybody up at local dance

  • CLASSIC, what a rarity to have a female drummer and a good one at that. Another interesting bit about that is the guitars, looking very cutting edge in style for 1964.

  • @pilesovinyl

The guitars are Burns from London. Still made today. Even Elvis used one occasionally.

  • Thanks to Whoever posted this !

  • Honey Lantree...HUBBA HUBBA

  • Is that Ringo in a dress and makeup?

  • rdickins100-Oh to be back there when we were kids without a care in the world, just livin and having a good time.

  • What is the name of the lady drummer ?

  • @maggiev0805 Honey Lantree

  • thank you

  • Sophie Tucker

  • lol @ this on Shindig. Being Scottish I bet Dennis was chuffed!

  • @kelllydonia Dennis was from Scotland?

  • His father (John) was a Scot and Dennis always flew the Scottish flag.

  • @kelllydonia So was Dennis was born in London

  • @blutocampbell. Yes, London. (actually, I thought 'Shindig' mentioned here was a Scottish programme but it appears not to be the programme I was thinking of.)

  • @kelllydonia It was an American program, they had alot of British Invasion bands on it

  • I was alive during this period, but at the time I did not realize how great the pop music of that era was.

  • I would use Honey as one of my influences in my drum playing

  • everyone were all trying to be like the Beatles! LOL But cool song

  • omg, I totally forgot bout this song!

  • the singer is sexy!

  • Honey was excellent!

  • hot lookin drummer

  • Honey Lantree is her name+A real babe.

  • is the drunmer hot or what

  • The era of NO RAP! Such a great time, great music.

  • @dahur Thats right!!! RAP SUCKS!!!

  • Looks like they had a major Burns Of London guitars endorsement!

  • these were good days, better times....

  • @baldandold

Cept for that whole repression of women and Black people thing. But if you ignore that, yeah!

  • @Darksphere101

    and the working clas

and midgets, homosexuals, coal miners and the welsh....

  • @baldandold As regards homosexuals in 'the bad old repressive days' of the sixties' how about the Honeycombs' daring (for the time) and beautiful song 'Eyes' (great YouTube video).

  • @armoredcar3

believe it or not midgets, miners and rear gunners interest me not

    cheers

  • @baldandold My last text intended as reply to you not me1

  • @armoredcar3 OK - but it can't be denied that 'rear-gunners' - including Joe Meek - were 'behind' some of the great music of the sixties.

  • @baldandold yeah, Cuban missile crisis and the Vietname War,

    Good times good times LOL

  • @baldandold Amen to that. I was 18 !

  • Thanks so much for putting this up.

  • She is using the traditional grip.

  • Honey and her boys :)

  • Denis James Dalziel was the singer on this record. I got to know Dennis when he was older through his young brother Lorry. Dennis became an excellent guitarist in style Carlos Santana, and was kind enough to give me some guitar lessons.

  • Honey Lantree arrived on the scene in 1964. Karen Carpenter 5 yrs later in 1969. Karen cited Honey as an influence on her playing of the drums !

  • Hal blaine the studio drummer [ played on all those phil spector records ]could have managed the carpenters but he thought girl drummers wouldnt be succesful.

  • Comment removed

  • No one had a girl drummer back then! Radical!

  • Karen Carpenter

  • There was also Jan Errico of The Vejtables (I Still Love You), and The Mojo Men (Sit Down I Think I Love You).

  • And Maureen Tucker of the Velvet Underground, RoyFive. :)

  • @Timmybear OOP. Yeah, forgot about her, and I watched some VU vids not long ago. Thanks!

  • This drummer is alot better than Karen Carpenter

  • Have you seen that movie; "That Thing You Do" - ? One Hit Wonders eh!

That little guy playin' bass looks like Arte Johnson from "Laugh In" - We had some "Wonders" back then didn't we?

  • Comment removed

  • i used to fancy the drummer

  • she look's like mick fleetwood,lol

  • There weren't many girl drummers in 60's

  • Honey Lantree on drums..brother John Lantree on bass.....a good interview of hers also on Youtube

  • He looks like superman

  • I hear this song sometimes on the local oldies station, it really sounds great, it's nice to know what the band looks like. Female drummer really is unique, especially for the 1960s. Thanks for posting this vid. Shindig must've really ruled back then!!

  • I always wanted to hear this song live BUT in 64, the sound engineers could NEVER have duplicated Joe Meek's studio sound!

  • I didn't say she wasn't good. My comment was a reply to some other comment. In any event trained drummers and non trained do play differently which is all I was saying. Sorry for any confusion.

  • great ,i love it

  • Singer reminds me of the French actor, Alain Delon.

  • That lead singer was pretty attractive.

  • The insttruments are Ampeg/Burns of London.

  • Thanks friend.

  • can anyone identify the make of the lead guitar?

  • More specifically, the lead guitarist is using the burns marvin designed for Hank Marvin of the shadows, and still available-check the burns website

  • The Dave Clark Five should have recorded this!!....Hit Hit Hit!

  • Cozy WAS, past tense. Cozy sadly died some years back in an auto accident.

Nope, there was nothing lame about the late, great Cozy!!!! :D

  • I love the Drummer!!!!

  • Oh yeah, he really does stand out, doesn't he? That's cool.

  • i can play this on the electric guitar and im only 13 i learned at 10

  • Good for you!

Keep up the pratice and maybe someday you'll be a professional musician.

Perhaps you'll want to be a music major in college.
