Very nice performance, but I will say that the best prformance I heard was when the other band at WCU (Western Carolina University) honors band played this peice. Very nice clinic, but too bad I wasn't in that band. My band played Putza, by Jean Van Der Roost, so I guess it was even
really good performance, but the only part i wasn't convinced about was the 6/8 part, the song is based on a girl who turns 17 on sunday (hence the name) the 6/8 part is where the girl and her bf are arguing something,i forget so lets say marriage. but anyway, the 6/8 cant be so clean cut. when people argue they are emotional and dont talk at the same volume level the entire time.
I don't believe we had any background on the piece, but that definitely would have helped. I suppose it's just the way our director decided to take it - sometimes his interpretation doesn't suit the ensemble well due to the variation of skill level.
thats not what the piece is about...its about a GUY who turns 17 sunday and is going to join the british army...then the next movement is about his parents worrying about him....why do you think this movement sounds so "army-like"
Gosh, I remember playing this my freshman year in high school with a group of juniors and seniors....I felt so imcompetant because this was so hard for me to play. But I enjoyed it nonetheless. You guys played really well!
