I always thought--as a kid--that Little House on the Parrot (Prairie, I know) was a sick. If it didn't start with a comic relief then surely someone was going to be blind, get his hand amputated, drown in a lake, raped, burn in a barn with the whole family, eaten by giant killer ants, go mute, has her tongue removed and rectum filled.
